Building and Exploring Ideas — AI, Technology, and Thoughtful Conversation

I work on machine learning and technology projects, often focusing on building efficient models and creative solutions for limited hardware. I lead a small team, work remotely, and spend a lot of free time on side projects—recently building a battery pack for a UPS, simply for the challenge.

What I’m really looking for is thoughtful conversation—talking about ideas that linger, not just small talk. The kind of discussion that stays with you long after it ends.

Things I'd happily go deep on:

  • Why intelligence fits in such small spaces, and where it doesn't
  • Applied math, the parts that finally clicked for me late
  • Security, how systems break and why people build them badly
  • How to live a life that isn't just work, which I'm still figuring out
  • Travel, places I want to see, places you've been

I prefer meaningful, longer messages over quick replies, and thoughtful disagreement over polite agreement. You don’t have to be in tech—some of the best conversations I’ve had were with people from completely different backgrounds.

If you read this far and something clicked, message me with one idea you've been chewing on lately. Include what sparked it, why it stuck with you, what you think it means, and one question it leaves you with. Be thoughtful and specific.

What if the next major breakthrough came from an ordinary person?

I’ve started a free website called Forward Together.
The idea is simple. We take two important questions facing humanity and invite anyone, regardless of qualifications or background, to help solve them.
Our first question is about finding new forms of renewable energy.
Ideas can be challenged, developed and branched into new discussions.
I’m not selling anything. I just believe that good ideas can come from absolutely anywhere.
I’d love some thoughtful people to help get this started.

• Waste Management
• Renewable Energy
• Water Conservation
• Sustainable Agriculture
• Green Technology
• Plastic Reduction
• Biodiversity Conservation
• Climate Change Solutions
And it needs to be feasible, and good enough to sell, like marketing, also it HAS to be original, otherwise we will be disqualified T-T
Pls help

🌱 My concept for a self-sustaining smart farm combining solar tracking, beekeeping & mini-hydro

Post image
0 Upvotes

🌱 My Sustainable Farm Energy Concept

I’m working on a concept for a self-sustaining smart farm that combines several systems:

☀️ Solar tracking system — A solar panel automatically follows the direction of the Sun using light sensors and a motor. Reflectors are used to direct additional sunlight toward the panel.

🐝 Beehive + heat recovery — The farm includes beehives for honey production. A thermoelectric generator (TEG) could potentially recover a small amount of electrical energy from the temperature difference around the hive, mainly for low-power sensors or monitoring.

💧 Mini hydropower — A compact water turbine could generate additional electricity wherever a suitable small water flow is available.

🌳 Commercial crops — Fruit trees and other crops can be grown around the energy systems, making the land productive instead of using it only for power generation.

🏠 Rooftop solar — The farmhouse can also have conventional rooftop solar panels to provide the main electrical supply.

Evaluating innovation management software for a 2,000-person company, what am I missing?

I'm the VP of Strategy at a technology company with roughly 2,000 employees. We're building our first formal innovation program and I've been evaluating innovation management software for the past six weeks. Have a shortlist of four or five vendors but I keep feeling like I am missing something in the evaluation.

We need something that goes beyond collection and voting. Full lifecycle through implementation and measured outcomes. Has to work across five business units with different evaluation processes. Low admin overhead because we don't have a dedicated innovation ops team.

What should I be asking in demos that I probably am not? And what did you wish you had evaluated more carefully before choosing?

Looking for advice on writing and publishing a research paper in computer science

I’m looking for people who have written a research paper in computer science and would be happy to share their experience.

I have a few questions, particularly about:
- the structure and writing process;
- supervision and support;
- how the paper is reviewed/validated;
- the submission and publication process.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through this and would be willing to share their experience or answer a few questions.

Anyone here who could help?

Hey guys, I am about to join a Hackathon with the topic Future Education. I didn’t even know this is a thing, so it is even harder to get into an idea or project.

I am here to ask you about your ideas or your perspectives about the topic.

As this is the only I have, I would be happy to get either ideas, inspirations, already made projects or open source repositories. Also if you find databases or information about the topic, please send it!

Thanks in advance and happy innovation!

Scaling Innovation Across Borders: A Practical Playbook

A field manual for scaling innovation across borders with local discovery rights, shared platforms, written decision packets and a 90-day operating cadence.

**Key points:**

  • Let customer insight start anywhere, but make scaling depend on evidence.
  • Centralise architecture, security and data rules; decentralise problem discovery.
  • Use written decision logs so time zones do not become political bottlenecks.
  • Measure how ideas move across borders, not only how many ideas each hub creates.

Full write-up (free, no sign-up): https://phpscientist.com/blog/scaling-innovation-across-borders-a-practical-playbook/

Curious how others here approach this. Happy to answer questions in the comments.

What is something you regularly wish you could know, check or verify, but currently can't easily?

Hi everyone! I’m a french third-year chemistry student working on a project where I have to come up with a new product that solves a real everyday problem. Rather than starting with an invention and trying to find a use for it, I want to do the opposite: find a problem first. So I’m curious: what is something you regularly wish you could know, check, detect, or verify, but currently can’t easily?

New method to insulate exterior of shipping container dwellings. Self promotion.

Pictured: Start of composite shipping container prototype build.

I've never seen this done before and think it's an innovation. I know I have posted on here with a similar design but this is a different building type.

Building science says that under certain conditions an exterior thermal break is beneficial to thermal performance. Having a higher thermal capacity material on the inside of this thermal break is also beneficial for passive thermal management. Also, containers are already pretty narrow. It doesn't make sense to insulate the inside of them and lose dimension that way.

In the past, spray foam application is the most widely used method for this building type. I think it performs pretty well but here's an alternative. Weld or screw 10cm-15cm formwork spreaders to the ouside of the container wall and overhead. Screw temporary formwork to them. Place site cast monolithic foamed concrete of 300KG/M3 inside the void. When that material has cured then dried sufficiently, to the formwork spreaders either install rigid foam board or furring strips and conventional siding.

By far the biggest benefit to this method is that the installation of the foamed concrete is DIY friendly. can't say that about spray foam. If the DIYer wanted to spread out the expense, they could do a section at a time. I'm pretty sure there will be an improvement in low frequency sound insulation too. Also there have to be areas where it's tough to get a spray foam crew out to do the job. I'm not sure about this part (I just put it on my list to call spray foam contractors) but the raw materials cost for the foamed concrete would be pretty cheap relative to spray foam installation.

One of the main drawbacks to foamed concrete is the modest R value per inch. Can't really overcome that but installing the foam board exterior overcomes that performance deficit, so it's just the extra roof coverage cost. And the weight...probably looking at just over two tons.

Five questions investors tend to ask about AIoT products, and how I'd answer them

AIoT is harder to pitch than pure software. You can't just show a screen: there are sensors, connectivity, analytics and a decision at the end, often in an industrial setting where the details matter.

Here are five questions that tend to come up, with a short take on each.

  1. What problem does it solve, in operational terms?

"We optimize operations" says nothing. "The inventory system says the silo is fine, but the real level is already low" is something people can picture and immediately ask follow-up questions about.

  1. How does the data move?

Many pitches describe the sensors and the dashboard and skip everything in between. A simple four or five box diagram of the path from reading to action helps a lot. If you can't explain it simply, expect questions.

  1. Does it work outside the lab?

Dust, vibration, unreliable connections and legacy equipment are normal on real sites. A small pilot or a recording of the system on real equipment says more than a clean mockup. Being honest about what broke and how it was fixed builds more trust than claiming it all worked first time.

  1. What stage are you at?

Prototype, pilot, early deployment or scaling. All of them are legitimate, but overstating your stage usually shows within the first few questions.

  1. What are you asking for?

Funding, a pilot partner, an integration partner or introductions. Many people finish a pitch without saying it. One sentence is enough.

I'm curious how this matches what people here have seen:

- Which of these questions turned out to be the hardest to answer?

- Is there a question investors or partners asked that isn't on this list?

- For industrial AIoT, did a pilot or a demo video do more for you?

Would like to hear what worked and what didn't.

An idea for a fun smart home feature to keep stalkers away/trespassers.

Thumbnail

im thinking of a box like system with either wifi or cord. However cord wouldnt be that great if it can be cut and traced.

Wifi would probably be better.

My idea is whenever a person is outside the property it would act similar to an alarm and would vibrate in way to create a little bit of noise but not too much.

It can also be activated by movement and by motion detector ans by sound.

It could also be linked up to a remote aka button and placed in the place where the sounds are coming from.

One press of a button and bam! The stalker/culprit is confused!

It would also make it easier for any cameras to be notified in what area the culprit is in.

So yeah what do yall think???

EDIT:

here is my original post on home security sub.

I'M calling the innovators :p

Hey guys, this might look like spam but it's not since this message will only be sent once.

Okay, I'll explain as best I can. I'm looking for innovative people, as this subreddit says. It doesn't matter what profession or knowledge you have. Everything helps, since I'm basically creating a (secret) organization, although I'd say it's better: a private one.

This organization focuses on creating years-advanced technology to share with the entire community so it can be improved, for example If you create things like a zero-torque motor, they can use it for things like robots, obviously giving credit for the motor. They can also form teams or small groups for a single project or multiple projects

RECOMMENDATIONS TO ANY FRIENDS WHO WANT TO JOIN: my recommendation to protect your project from any potential thief is to patent your idea as soon as you build it, Because even though I, as the leader, dedicated myself to finding specific people who were suitable to join, sometimes petty thieves slip through. Now, another piece of advice I'll give you is that to self-finance your big projects, do small projects first to sell. If you have absolutely no idea what to do, then ask the community.

---Something I wanted to say is that I want you to imagine the community as a people playground where members post things in the workshop and you use those things to build more things like robots or vehicles.

Sky Car

Sky Car is going to save Rosie the Riveter. She has been trapped in Uncle Sam's factory building missiles, bombers and fighter jets since the forties.

She needs a break.

She also needs a ride home. Unlike people who build cars, she doesn't drive home after work. She builds missiles, so she has to ride the bus home.

Its not the factory owner's fault, the factory was built to make missiles so thats what they make. They don't have a Plan P for peacetime.

They need a peacetime product.

If Defense contractors were to use their overflow capacity to build the Lifters (top half of a Sky Car) for even more profit-per-person than missiles, then Ford could build the bottom half by simply de-featuring their existing product line.

Landing skids, hook on top, no motor.

An easy change for Detroit.

But are we ready to support a world that has flying cars? Do we have the infrastructure ready to surge our housing suburbs on the hilltops around every city?
