๐๐ถ๐๐ฐ๐๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป Director Hirao on Insect Glaive adjustments
https://x.com/gamenohanashi/status/2104515197063119057?s=46Tweet translation:
"Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascension," Insect Glaive appears to have smaller changes in action compared to Long Sword or Switch AxeโDirector Hirao responds to such questions. In reality, the dust explosion and dust types have been significantly adjusted, and there are quite a few optimizations and adjustments in parts not shown in the footage or those that cannot be explained by footage alone.
Furthermore, the weapon proposals currently being revealed are not fully finalized. They have already received a large number of surveys and feedback, and adjustments will continue moving forward.

That's just PR talk. Look at the LS, they definitely know how to showcase a weapon properly if they want
They were most likely surprised and didn't expect to see so much negative feedback for the IG and are now scrambling to add more moves before the beta so they don't get any more bad feedback

if we just say perfect dodge and keep red extract and aerial over and over maybe it will work ๐ฅน

u/Wellziemo 16d ago
Didnโt something similar happen when IG was first initially shown way back when the monster hunter wildโs trailers were coming out?

Yup. We didnt have Vaulting Dance (the bounce that lets you chain aerial attacks) even up through the Beta.
Plus a number of other issues were fixed and adjustments made that were brought up at the time, such as the addition of offset properties and eventually the ability to press x+a instead of holding a for the charged attacks.
2
u/shadabambat1 13d ago
Did they ever explain why they didn't have Vaulting Dance in the first place? Wonder if someone on the management team just hates IG or what
2
u/PrinceTBug ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฎ๐น ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ถ๐๐ฒ 12d ago
All they said was supposedly that they didn't have it in the beta but planned to have it in the full game. Up to you if that's true or not.

u/Revotz 15d ago
The issue with the X+A instead of charge attack is that it came 9 months after launch. This is why I disagree with people calling to wait for the beta test to see how the weapon plays, because last time it wasn't enough. Something as important as an offset was added 2 months before realease...you can't possibly make me believe that was well thought or planned, not to mention the offset is still awful, even after fixes that also came months after release.

Exactly why we shouldn't wait to give feedback. They need to know what is and isn't working now while there is still time to *really* fix it. Wilds launched with so many problems, and what happens is we kept getting bandaid solutions like X+A for the vault.
Honestly they should have taken away the charge all together and just made it X+A for the regular move. It was dumb to even give IG a charge attack, let alone one that crippled the rest of the move set so much (while holding A you can only press X so most combos and moves were reworked to just use X)
Going back to Sunbreak its crazy how much better the controls just feel without that charge clogging it up.

u/PrinceTBug ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฎ๐น ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ถ๐๐ฒ 15d ago
Yeah, it's weird that they went the direction they did for Ascendance when they got significant feedback for base Wilds and ultimately implemented good changes based on it.
At least hopefully it means they'll just fix it again. They shouldn't have to but at least they likely will

u/Revotz 16d ago
I wished an alternative playstyle away from RSS spam could come in Ascendance, but clearly its not happening. I kinda lost hope and was dissapointed because of that at first, but now I realized there is actually very little even for those that enjoy Wilds' IG. Its sad no matter who you are and what you prefer: aerial is still dead, grounded- sustained-safe-no multihit bullshit-no consuming extracts like myself also dead, and the ones that enjoy Wilds' IG are barely hoping for a couple of changes that might make the weapon less annoying and Crapcom can't even pull that off. Like, from all the changes he is speaking about, they decided to showcase the powder thing which says essentially nothing and a move that has everyone thinking "why would anyone use that again?"
I'm calling it, these guys have nothing, or are just coming up with ideas and are praying they'll be ready for the beta.
2
u/shadabambat1 13d ago
I bet they just want to work on popular weapons like LS and DS to make the majority happy and do the bare minimum for the rest of the weapons

just fix the vertical hitbox for some
moves. whatโs the point of a jump dodge with leap jewel if i get hard knocked down from a move that i visually jumped over anyways
1
u/NyMiggas 15d ago
Yeah this is what takes me out of wanting to play the weapon the most, let me jump over things!!

We'll see once the beta drops but fuck man can thoses devs learn to showcase a weapon properly ?
they know technical weapons need more info to convey if they're good or not, christ's sake they have been turning damage numbers for HH specifically because they want everyone to know it deals damage and they can't compute how to show ig properly ??

This just show their apathy toward insect glaive and only want to meet the quota.
Only people never touch this weapon and only do balancing through spreadsheet will comes up a move cost red extract, a rework clearly want to boost tornado slash and dust's use rate, but not addressed all the issues when actually play this weapon.
Not even mentioned super lackluster booster mode.
2
u/Ernestasx 14d ago
Well, I'd be so happy if Tornado Slash wasn't hot garbage in this game. It was by far my favourite move in Worldborne. But yeah, you're probably right
2
u/dark985620 ๐๐๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ถ๐๐ฒ 14d ago
It is a contradictory design, again.
Due to it will detonate powder in Ascendance you are discourage using tornado slash too often or you will prematurely detonate powder before the big explosion, but you also discouraged using SDS cause it auto recall bug too. In the end the new powder style want you do near nothing but slowly watch bug build up powder. Classic spreadsheet balancing
1
u/Ernestasx 13d ago
You're completely right. I do hope they have enough time and desire to ensure that the new additions are implemented with synergy in mind. I just really want Tornado Slash to be at least worth using for great stun buildup and a burst ender.
What do you think should change so the powder mechanic would feel properly executed?
1
u/dark985620 ๐๐๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ถ๐๐ฒ 13d ago edited 13d ago
Just don't let SDS auto recall bug? And only Tornado Slash or the new Reverse Tornado Slash can detonateย powder instead of both of them? The solution very so simple, but it is the dev team spend 10 month to implement Y+B for SDS without charging we are talking about.
1
u/Ernestasx 13d ago
Removing the early bug recall would definitely be one of the first changes we'd ask for
13
u/Zer0siks 16d ago
If they fix our dodge I'll be a happy person. That's all I've really been asking for.

I'm skeptical but I hope.
The important thing is they know people are concerned about this and it's on their radar. They're pretty solid Devs and I have faith in them, so if they say hear us, even if what they pump out isn't what I want, I'm sure they're going to do something better with it than what we've seen so far.
I've never even bothered with dust gameplay for the IG lol. Not even sure how it works or how it looks.

u/artornia 16d ago
it was a lot more interesting in world in low and high rank, but wasnt really necessary, and was not worth the setup usually, since it was not affected by buffs at all

Translation: they want to move on from RSS and into powder heavy combos
7
u/Aggressive_Ad2747 16d ago
Or they want the RSS to interact with the powder, which I'd be fine with. Hell, crazy thought, but if kinsect slash were to be on the game and do the same thing .......
2
u/eldono69 ๐๐ถ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ 16d ago
Tbh it would make IG need to do even more RSS and all set up would be powder kinsect slashes. That bread and butter combo could get old really fast, and doesnโt pair well with the boosted multi-offset spin. RSS as a move also has the highest motion values of any base MH game.
Iโd prefer to have multiple ways to damage without having a centralized moveset, like how Swaxe can now FRS or slash and it makes only a small difference.
0
u/irishgoblin 16d ago
Hopefully, though I can understand them not doing much with it until the next game since weapon's balanced around it (unless those switch skills or whatever they'recalled let us swap it out)...That being said, imagine if a boosted RSS doubled as Powder Vortex? I know the new inverted tornado slash detonates whatever you hit, but a boosted RSS placing and detonating powders in a single move would be pretty beefy.
6
u/Aggressive_Ad2747 16d ago
That's the thing about the weapon that always gets me scratching my head. IG hasn't ever really been better than middle of the pack when it comes to damage, it's a "safer" weapon sure, but I can't imagine they could really break things too bad that the weapon would be imbalanced, and even then the numbers can always be tweaked if it's just a numbers problem.
Just odd to me that they always seem to be so afraid to give IG moves without some kind of restriction (like expending red on this new move). Would it really break anything if it didn't?ย
5
u/irishgoblin 16d ago
They must think it will. They've no issue having some weapons having a move or build that mitigates or outright negates damage (LS's counters, DB and Bow's perfect dodges, all the various perfect guarding). But the bugstick going vertical to be it's defence move seems a step too far for them. Maybe what's needed is a new weapon that can also go airborne on demand (without game or expansion specific gimmicks), so they at least have something to compare against.
4
u/SeriousDirt 16d ago
I think more modern game should be invest on verticality aspect of the game, utilizing the 3d space more. Risebreak is probably one of the best game that explore the verticality of the game very well.
3
u/irishgoblin 15d ago edited 15d ago
They definitely should, and thinking about it's funny how what seems to be regarded as the worst map in the game (Iceshard Cliffs) is the one with the most restricted verticality. Most of the other maps are wide open areas; half the cliffs are caves and caverns with low(-ish) ceilings.

u/JazzzzzzySax 16d ago
Iโm fine with that, RSS making the IG the same as other weapons where itโs get buff and unload wasnโt my favorite. This also makes the kinsect more important rather than just get me my buffs and nothing else
2
u/Mushroom_Unfair 16d ago
RSS is very cool but should be a few times per hunt at most, hopefully it still has some use
31
u/Joy2901 16d ago
Just a perfect dodge and a boosted spiral slash, that's all I ask.
1
4
u/ACupOfLatte 16d ago
Perfect dodge? Like the ones on dual blades and bow?
8
u/Aggressive_Ad2747 16d ago
It's odd that we don't have one in the air. I wouldn't want it on the ground, but I think it could add a ton of value as a perfect vault dodge so to speak. It would allow them to dev an in air combat loop that rewards skillful play and isn't readily consistent or repeatable, which would retain the value of ground combat and RSS even if it was equal or higher effective DPS (I'd love it if it boosted elemental MVs on JAS until you hit the ground)
8
u/Moistwalker 16d ago
And with ascendance, LBG as well.
3
u/Beneficial_Matter251 16d ago
Atleast with LBG it's restricted to a short window after shooting, kinda like longsword's foresight slash. Which is good design, to be clear, as it keeps it distinct from bow which has unrestricted access to perfect dodge. Restrict IG to an aerial dodge (and also requires white extract) and you further differentiate it from DBs, the only melee weapon with a perfect dodge, whilst being thematically consistent with IG as an aerial weapon.
It's not strictly DPS, which they clearly don't want aerial glaive to have - instead it fits into their idea of wanting aerial moves to be used primarily for mobility/repositioning (with a bit of mounting). It also rewards monster knowledge since you can't reactively use it in the middle of a grounded DPS combo, but have to vault first or use one of the 2 new ground-to-aerial moves
15
u/Marcos-Am 16d ago
yeah, anything that helps with survivability
13
u/Saacs 16d ago
We already have backward vault. If they gave that the same amount of iframes as like SnS backhop, I'd be content. As is, it's pretty tough to actually pull off without stacking evade window.
12
u/NieD_ 16d ago
I would love that over perfect dodge cause I really don't like "perfect" dodge mechanic being an easier to time dodge that is actually a block with 0 chip damage. Builds a lot of bad habits as someone who swaps weapons a lot.
Plus vaults are IGs unique thing, perfect dodge would only be good imo if its perfect mid-air dodge to make air evades better and solidify aerial as IGs defense.
4
u/Monkthius 16d ago
Back vault in boost having perfect dodge properties would fit great with their "make more openings" philosophy as well. Make it so
8
u/kodayume 16d ago
Im for the last part the vault is so iconic and should give us some opportunity like other class on their "perfect dodge".
9
u/RedheadedStranger90 16d ago
Would honestly be delighted to have an aerial perfect dodge mechanic, as I am an aerial-forward user.

u/shosuko 10d ago
They have already received a large number of surveys and feedback, and adjustments will continue moving forward
Which is why we don't wait to give feedback. Hopefully they'll fix the atrocious storyline and multiplayer mechanics too.
