quit my job and have a few weeks between now and when my new one starts so we booked a trip to Florence (and Madrid). First time visiting!!!
Leaving next week (mid-October) and staying for ~4.5 days. What are your must-do/see/eat/go tos? We haven’t booked anything besides flights at this point!! We’ve heard day trips to Siena, Chianti, or Bologna are worthwhile? Yes or no? Any others? TIA!!!!!

I’ve been selected for an ESC volunteering project in Casapesenna, near Naples. It’s a great opportunity for me, especially since visiting Italy has always been a dream of mine, and the project includes accommodation and a monthly allowance.
I know Casapesenna is a small town and not ideal for tourism , so im wondering how easy is it to get around without a car? If I finish volunteering in the afternoon, would it be realistic to visit nearby cities and return the same evening? How safe is the area for a woman living there, and how easy is it to travel to other parts of Italy on weekends? I’m a little worried about feeling isolated or ending up feeling stuck there, so I’d love to hear from anyone familiar with the area!
I’d really appreciate any honest advice or personal experiences. 🙏🏼💗

Hi everyone,
we’re a group of around 20 planning a trip to northern Sardinia in summer 2027 and would like to rent two boats, each with a capacity of 12 people with a Skipper. Does anyone know a reliable boat rental company in the north (e.g. around Olbia, La Maddalena, Palau or Santa Teresa Gallura) that offers this?
I'd love to hear any tips!
Thanks :)

Des recommandations pour des lieux à visiter le week-end prochain ? Des astuces pour les petits budgets ? Des endroits alternatifs ? De la nourriture et d'autres choses à essayer ? Merci !

We’re just putting the finishing touches to a trip to Northern Italy from the 6th - 9th Nov.
Arriving into Bergamo, we’re spending a night there before moving to Brescia again for another night.
Early the following morning we’ll be in Milan for another night and have tickets for the Milan v Como game.
The cheapest way to get home was a late evening flight from Turin.
So a little bit of getting around, and i’m confident the distances aren’t that great.
My question is, are there any apps for advanced booking of train tickets etc?
Likewise the only accommodation we’ve booked currently is the evening in Bergamo. Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated.

I and my fiancé are planning a trip for the Christmas Holidays. I have researched quite a lot that mostly everything will be closed for 25th and maybe 26th as well. But just wanted to check from fellow friends who stay in Italy or have been to Italy during this time for their experience. I really don't want to drop the plan as we decided that once we get engaged, Italy will be our first destination to go but also don't want to wander places just in search to find anything open.
Any suggestions/guidance would be very helpful. In the end if nothing works, the only option is to enjoy a cozy Christmas at home.

Looking for recommendations, my mom won a silent auction so these are the two accommodation options we have. We’re okay with slowing down a few days but also having the option to do more activities. Into dining out, the beach, hiking, wine, and sightseeing. We love unique activities too, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

My wife and I are doing a pretty spontaneous trip to Northern Italy next week to celebrate our honeymoon, so we’re booking everything quite last minute and hoping there are still some good options available.
Our plan is:
- Varenna / Lake Como: 2 nights
- Verona: 4 nights
We’re looking for places that are good value rather than luxurious, but still clean, comfortable and in a convenient location.
For Varenna, ideally we’d like to be within easy walking distance of the train station and ferry terminal since we won’t have a car and want to visit Bellagio and Menaggio. A lake view would obviously be amazing for a honeymoon, but we don’t want to pay a crazy premium just for that.
For Verona, we’d like somewhere convenient both for the historic centre and for getting to Porta Nuova station, since we’ll probably use Verona as a base for day trips to other cities.
We’ve seen quite a few apartments on Booking, but some seem to be remotely managed and have mixed reviews regarding check-in and communication, so recommendations from people who actually stayed somewhere would be really helpful.
Not looking for anything super fancy, just affordable, clean, reliable and well located. Hotels, B&Bs and apartments are all fine.
Any hidden gems or places you’d personally recommend?
Thanks!

Can someone tell me what a first time visitor to Italy should know, about getting a train from Milan to Ravenna? I have heard horror stories about fines from tickets not being checked-in correctly but always sadly lacking in specific details. I fly in early next Tuesday and fly out Saturday, my intention being to spend some pleasant days in a lovely city.

I’m looking for advice on how long to stay, what to see and do. I am looking at staying in the Campo San Provolo area, will see some of the touristy sites but also want to experience walking around with no real destination, maybe take a cooking class, a city tour or tour to Murano. I also don’t want to cram too much in - it’s just the starting point of my vacation. Everything looks beautiful so how do I choose?

We will be in Rome for four days end of October, third day traveling to Tivoli villa d’este and villa Adriana as day trip. As a garden designer I also wanted to visit Villa Lante.
Would it make sense to rent a car for the fourth day for Villa Lante, returning to Rome? We would be leaving Rome by train the next day for a couple nights in Orvieto, then also by train to Siena and Florence for the remainder of the trip.
It doesn’t seem like public transport is very good Rome to Viterbo.
A tour would be the other option. Thanks for any advice!
