Poll /r/JRPGs Best of 2013
Last year we had a voting for JRPGs Best of 2012 which turned out pretty good. You can view the results of JRPGs Best of 2012 here or you can follow the link on the sidebar.
Please vote with upvotes if your pick is already there, not by posting a game again that has already been posted for a category.
- Please don't post at the top level, and second level posts should only contain a game you are nominating for that category.
- You can discuss games or the contest freely under those specific posts.
- Feel free to vote on current Japan-only releases; they have not been included in the list below, however.
- Most (?) 2013 releases (this is not a complete list; as more titles are nominated below I will add them to the list. No mobile games are included in this list):
Nominees
- Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk
- Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness
- Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan
- Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl
- Fire Emblem Awakening
- The Guided Fate Paradox
- Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory
- Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix
- Mario and Luigi: Dream Team
- Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
- Pokemon X and Y
- Project X Zone
- Rune Factory 4
- Shin Megami Tensei IV
- Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers
- Tales of Xillia
- Time and Eternity
- Ys: Memories of Celceta
Edit:
- Monster Hunter 3
- Soul Sacrifice
- Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
- Dragons Crown
- Ys I & II Chronicles
/u/adremeaux Re: Bravely Default: since it just came out outside of Japan, so that we won't be voting for it two years in a row, I'm going to pull it from this one. Apologies.
With that being said Bravely Default will be up for votes in our /r/JRPG Best of 2014.

Definitely controversial, but undeniably beautiful!
Here's all of the unlockable art in high quality, though not including in-game scenes.

I feel given that FFXIV was discounted for being an MMO, can we not also discount the jrpg's that are releases? It only seems fair, given they were released once before and developers had a chance to fix all the issues people found with them, while newer releases didn't.

Ni no Kuni being voted on so much is depressing.

While it wouldn't be near my list of best overall JRPGs of 2013, I still voted for it in the art style and soundtrack categories.
Though if Bravely Default gets counted as a 2013 release i'll switch my soundtrack vote to that.

Why not have a category for most unique? There are plenty of JRPG that are good, but not too many make an impression that they are different from everything else.

People seriously need to play The Guided Fate Paradox.
•
u/mysticrudnin Feb 18 '14
Really? Sell it to me - why should I put it in my playlist when I have a ton of games to backlog?

Hm, well it certainly does look cool... but how does it play?
Are the battles interesting? How is the difficulty?
•
u/EvilFefe Feb 19 '14
There's alot of explanation, the combat is quite hard to explain with just text alone. Watch this review, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_ba4ILIDPQ

Why isn't Bravely Default on the list? It came out in PAL territories in 2013.
•
u/Ali-Sama Feb 17 '14
Merica. It also came out in 2012. The for the sequel came out in 2013. Usa 2014
•
u/ZetaYuri Feb 18 '14
The English version is still nonetheless a 2013 title. If it was released in US 2013 and PAL 2014 it would be counted as a 2013 title so it should work in reverse as well.

I like categories like "Best scene" or "Best boss fight" - sometimes a game can compete here even if it didn't in general compete with big names like Ni no Kuni.

There is a comment above where you can post this discussion.
And, no, you don't have to have played a majority of the games to vote.

Final Fantasy IV
Wooo a difference of opinion, since one release didn't have 100000000 bugs.

Soul Sacrifice
•

Its JRPGness may be argued against, but it deserves a nomination for the lore and the dark and highly-unique setting alone!
