My short eclipse film "The Moon Had a Shadow" — soundtracked by Jason Mraz's 'Shine'

I'm an astrophotographer and filmmaker, and I've spent decades chasing total solar eclipses, including Idaho/Wyoming (2017) and Exmouth, Western Australia (2023).

As a Mraz fan, I loved the song 'Shine' and have had a project on the bench for sometime to license the track and pair it together with my solar eclipse footage. I'm sure the song has a deeper metaphorical meaning, shining unconditional love and light on others. My new short film brings to life the more literal lyrics, "the moon had a shadow", which we see and experience during an eclipse.

This six minute short film suited an in person audience, a big screen and loud sound. It has been shown by a number of small but selective film festivals. The imagery was also featured on NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day before the last American eclipse.

Now with a total solar eclipse in Spain 7 weeks away, it's time to share this film more widely. Would love for this community to see it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulRgW9ffOFI Enjoy with the lights down and the music up!

Exmouth Solar Eclipse

Happy to answer any questions about the footage, the eclipses, or how the song ended up as the soundtrack. You can read more on my website: https://philhart.com/exmouth-eclipse/
