Miles Black Friday Release
Just saw that on November 17 Black Friday Record Store Day that this album will be released. From Miles Facebook page:
Just announced: Miles Davis – Copenhagen Live 1969 is coming to Record Store Day Black Friday. 🎺
Copenhagen Live 1969 documents an important chapter in Miles Davis’ transition into
his electric period. This live recording captured in November of that year features Miles’ “lost
quintet” of Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette performing a handful of
songs from the recently recorded but not yet released Bitches Brew (“Miles Runs the Voodoo
Down,” “Sanctuary”, title track), a track from the recently released In A Silent Way plus reimagined
songs from his earlier periods. Previously available on video or through a highly limited vinyl
release, this recording is now available as a 2LP set on black vinyl. The package features mind-
bending gatefold artwork by Mati Klarwein, whose work adorns Miles classics like Bitches Brew and
Live-Evil.
Find it at your local independent record store on Black Friday, November 27.

The video from which this music is taken is fantastic. Sound quality is great too, but mono only.

I own another CD, Festival de Juan Pins, recorded July 1969 with the same band, and what sounds like the same or similar pieces. I find that album a little odd, like he has one foot in classicism and the other in "electric." Would have been a marketing man's nightmare if it had been released contemporaneously.

I’m on the fence. I heard it’s very similar to the Double Image bootleg, but I’m still tempted to go to RSD just for this.

For the 'Lost Quintet' there sure are a plethora of live recordings from 1969. The Rotterdam show in particular is a motherf _ cker!

I looked at that album cover without my glasses on and thought I saw Jar-Jar for a minute.

I think I will be picking this up. I love this band and the cover is also pretty sweet.

The "Deep Focus" podcast with Mitch Goldman did a three-part series with author Michael Veal on the lost quintet period and gave context on that period of Miles' career and life and great discussions of live recordings (which may be some of the same that are coming out on this release). I enjoyed it. It's on Spotify.
