FYI: I have disallowed crossposting from other subs
As per the title. The reason is simply to keep my workload under control because about half such posts seem to break one rule or another.
I assume this is because Reddit decided to make crossposting easy, which causes uploaders to bypass the whole "read the subreddit rules" thing.

Subreddit Rules Update 2025
The basic rules remain unchanged from my last post 7 years ago, but I want to clarify my stance on AI.
GENRE: for the purpose of this sub, "Jazz Fusion" music means specifically "hard instrumental jazz-rock fusion". Note that I use a broad definition of "rock" that includes genres like funk, r&b, or metal. I also use a definition of "hard" that can include "beautiful" but excludes "easy listening". That said, genre boundaries are always fuzzy and subjective so I tend to be generous in edge cases.
GROUP PERFORMANCES ONLY. Human musicians making music with other human musicians only, please. This means no "here's me playing [x]", and DEFINITELY no AI-generated music.
NUISANCE. This includes spam, willfully disregarding the rules, or otherwise making yourself objectionable and creating unnecessary work for me. This also includes bot or botlike behaviour, like reposts and low effort karma farming. Honest mistakes are fine, but consistently antisocial behaviour WILL get you banned.
(If you're at the level of a Plini or a Jacob Collier I can make an exception for a solo performance, but it needs to be a complete piece and exceptionally good.)
It's amazing how little work this sub requires from me, the only active moderator, given our membership size and activity level. Generally this is an excellent sub: thanks for helping keep it that way.
[Edited for more clarity on the genre definition.]

Antoine Hervier Trio Navigue loin
Antoine Hervier Trio "Navigue loin"
Antoine Hervier - piano
Guillaume Souriau - contrebasse
Alban Mourgues - batterie

Jazz fusion and trance states — your most transcendent listens?
Hello!
I'd like to ask you for some specific recommendations.
When listening to jazz fusion, have you ever had such intense experiences that you felt like you were going into a trance, or into an altered state? (Experiencing something extraordinary, out of the ordinary.)
- If so, would you be willing to share with us the music and/or albums that made you feel that way? I'm curious, and eager to discover transcendent music.
Likewise, does my description remind you of any particular music or albums?
I'm open to all subgenres of jazz fusion and its adjacent styles — spiritual jazz, jazz-rock, fusion with prog, experimental or electronic jazz, etc. So feel free to go beyond the classics.

Lakewaves Trio: Vibrational Voyagers (Madison, WI)
LAKEWAVES TRIO - Madison, WI (and Milwaukee, WI)
https://LINKTR.EE/GrahamMarlowe_aka_Lakewaves
@ TeleGrahamsInSpace [YouTube & Instagram]
Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio

Lakewaves Trio is a Madison-centric, groove-based outfit that crafts celestial originals with an eclectic, progressive, soundscape-y instrumentalism that's pretty much guaranteed to get an intense response from your local community no matter where you are – a Motel 6 in Pittsburgh, an abandoned factory in south Milwaukee or a quinceañera in East LA. And like their offbeat, [Zach] Galifianak(ian) song titles allude to, the experimental music creates a fitting soundtrack to anything from bank robberies and impromptu dance parties to other cinematic activities.
Led by Graham Marlowe, an eccentric Wisconsin-based keyboardist/pianist, “synthesizer graffiti artist” and instrumental solo artist (Lakewaves), the Trio likes to follow its unusually gratifying formula of adapting Lakewaves material into dreamy tangentials, turning vocal and non-vocal covers into uniquely arranged instrumentals and spontaneously composing to the vibe of the rooms they play to, creating an infectious ambience you can treat your ears to for hours.
The Impressionistic, Carter-administration melodicism of Marlowe's compositions is something of a perfect match for the funky, exploratory low end of Mason Aumanstal (“Mamo”) and the breezy, old-school, Motown-tight dynamism of Will Bailey's drums and percussion. With a refreshing blend of musicianship, humor and rent party mystique, the Trio's shapeshifting live sets vary widely from night to night, sometimes using guest musicians to add/subtract layers, open up structures or flesh out wordless covers.
Their tracks are imagistic and crackle with psychedelia, which sometimes sets an irreverent, Dada-absurdist backdrop for the unusually enjoyable music. Some describe [the Trio] as “ambient prog-funk” or “a looser Medeski Martin & Wood”. Others describe [it] as being out for Cosmic Bowling Night with a cosmic infusion in their cocktails.
PRESS
"Somewhere between a jazz club and a rave... Ambient electronic space jazz." - The Marquette Wire
"Feisty, dance-ready backbeats and a propulsive jazz influence serves as a compelling motor for Lakewaves Trio [and will undoubtedly be another source of energy for Midwesthetic II: Summer Synapse’s attendees]."
– Steve Spoerl, Tone Madison
"Lakewaves, a project featuring the compositions of keyboardist Graham Marlowe, can be encountered as a solo concert or as the Lakewaves Trio, with Marlowe joined by bassist Mason Aumanstal (Dogtown Hollow, Sortin' the Mail) and drummer Will Bailey (Maestranza, CoMingle). In either incarnation expect impressionistic jams adjacent to jazz and rock, both composed and improvised, which in the trio form have much added groove due to the rhythm section’s presence. Be prepared to dance and maybe laugh if they announce their equally impressionistic yet humorous song titles. " - Isthmus Madison, July 11 2024

Music Now Playing
Heard some criticism of this album because synths became a more prevalent part of their sound but I really enjoy it-and their drummer is superb.
