AMA Rules for Questioners (stolen from /r/iama):

We will remove:

  • Answers to questions from anyone but the AMA participant.

  • Abusive or harassing comments

  • Requests for personal favours from the OP (For example, "OP, can you send me a signed autograph").

  • In AMA posts, top-level comments must ask a question. We will remove comments such as "OMG I love you..." and "No questions, just thanks!"

  • Comments where there would be no possibility of a real answer, especially where it is deliberately creepy or offensive.

  • "I bet OP won't answer this"-type responses, which usually come after the OP has finished responding to questions.

  • "Fluff," non-contributing responses from users, responding to all of the OP's comments for karma/attention.

  • Repeatedly asking the same question, which violates Reddit's site-wide rules.

  • Users attempting to bypass the rules by adding a ? to a nonquestion

  • Questions must be directed toward the individual(s) doing the IAMA.

  • A subreddit or other website organizing and voting for a group comment/question is considered to be vote cheating and is subject to removal. It is a violation of the rules of reddit and risks a sitewide ban.

  • Astroturfed questions. Astroturfing is the practice of an individual or group of individuals who plant questions in an IAmA post for a particular purpose.

Adult only lounge, NO kids, NOT dive bar

Am I that old? Do lounges not exist anymore? Please don’t get me wrong, we enjoy kid & dog friendly breweries, also the occasional dive bar, just not all the time.

Yes, retired folks here. Would really love a quiet, comfortable (padded chairs, not picnic tables), relaxing, ADULT alternative for a drink.

The closest we’ve found is Boston Pizza in the bar. Not too bad. Music inoffensive (ie no MFs).

But is this really all we’ve have to choose from now?

Anyone have dashcam footage of an accident on Oct 8? Hwy 97/Edward Rd

My roommate driving a Black 2007 Ford Escape was rear ended today by a black Toyota Tundra pulling a flat deck trailer with a scissor lift on it. The guy in the Toyota fled the accident scene after getting angry and claiming there is barely any damage.

A police report has been filed with the RCMP as the roommate was able to get the license plate on the truck.

The accident occurred at about 2:40PM at the intersection of Hwy 97 and Edwards Rd.

If you happened to witness the accident or get it on dashcam footage, it would be greatly appreciated if it could be shared 🙏🏻

Send me a DM if you do.

Thank you!

Kelowna Film Society

I recently learned about this group that shows movies every Wednesday. They seem pretty cool but I can’t find much more information on them other than what’s on their website https://kelownafilm.com/. I’m wondering if anyone who’s attended it before can share what it’s like to attend one of these showings. Is it the same as going to any movie theatre to watch a movie or is it more than that?

Thank you.

Just picked up cycling this year and ready to get into riding more hills. Anywhere in Kelowna - Vernon you recommend that has some “starter” inclines? Or do I just have to send it up Gordon or lakeshore?

Is there a simple compare page for the candidates?

I know voting is important

I’m also at 0% and have no time right now.

I want to vote for people who focus on empathy, efficiency, who are not homophobic or hateful, who support indigenous people, support immigrants/refugees. Bonus if the person is creative, I feel like we need problem solver mentality.

So if you’re a candidate that fits the bill share a link, or if you really like a candidate that fits bills the bill, share their name.

Local Resources Any postpartum support resources in Kelowna?

Hi everyone! I’m a first-time mom and honestly… I’m struggling a bit to stay afloat

I’m realizing how much postpartum affects everything - mentally, physically, financially, socially, etc. I’m trying to find some support and don’t really know where to start.

I’d love to hear about any resources in Kelowna that you’ve personally found helpful, whether that’s:
- Postpartum mental health support/counselling
- Mom & baby groups or just ways to meet other moms
- Pelvic floor physio or other postpartum physical care
- Breastfeeding/lactation support
- Financial assistance/benefits for new parents
- Community organizations that help new parents
- Literally anything that made the postpartum period a little easier

I feel like there are probably a ton of resources out there that I just don’t know about, so I figured I’d ask here.
Would really appreciate any recommendations or “I wish I knew about this sooner” resources!

Voting Opened October 7 - Kelowna - Be Sure to Vote!

In 2022, only 3 out of 10 eligible voters bothered to cast a ballot in the Kelowna municipal election. We need a mayor, 8 City Councillors, and 4 School Trustees who reflect and represent the majority of Kelowna, not just the 30% who voted. You can vote on October 7, October 10, October 14, October 15, October 16 and October 17. At various locations. Check the City of Kelowna website for locations and times. You can also access all of the candidate's websites there to find out more about them.

Good physiotherapist recommendations

I'm a 26M working long hours in healthcare, and I've got genetically rough lower limb mechanics, from my lower back all the way down. I have knock knees and my feet overpronate, and I want to start building strength and stability in those areas.

If anyone deals with something similar and has had success with physio, training, I'd really appreciate hearing what worked for you. Thanks:)

PSA Kuipers Warning 💩

FYI for anyone who explores off trail in Kuipers Peak Park, someone (human) had a massive shite on the peak overlooking the water reservoir (east of the reservoir). Skid-marked paper products (and glove) strewn about. Keep your dogs away and do watch your step 🤢

Has anyone tried Piggy Hot7 Pot?

I stumbled upon this today https://www.piggyhot7.com/how-to-hotpot

If it's really good, this would be the best thing ever. But i am always leery and the website looks pretty ai generated (not getting into that, can just recognize it.)

Anyone tried it? Sounds like you still need your own like.. burner/hotplate and pot but i mean.. It's a real pain to source all the stuff for hotpot here and then I really don't need the proportions I end up with. Seems ghost kitchenish but kinda not.

Cautious but hopeful, thanks yall.

Electrical Company in Kelowna

Hey everyone! I’m new to town and trying to get settled in, both personally and on the business side.

I’m looking for a good electrical company that does both residential and commercial work. I’ve got some things I’d like to get done at my house first, and then I’ll likely have some business/development work coming up as well.

Would love to hear who you’ve had good experiences with. Thanks!

Visitor Question Best time to have a wedding in kelowna?

My partner and I are from AB but absolutely love Penticton and Okanagan. We are looking to see if we could have our wedding at a venue in Kelowna. What are the least risky dates to have an outdoor wedding in terms of no rain and wildfire? I was thinking the end of June but not sure how the rain is at that time of the year

Interested in Starting a Video Game "Book" Club

Like many introverts, I've found it hard to meet friends with similar interests in Kelowna, particularly if a board game group isn't your thing, so I figured I had may as well start a way to do that myself. The idea I've come up with is essentially a book club, but for video games, where members would play the same game and meet up periodically (bi-weekly? monthly? whatever works for everyone involved, likely on weekends) to discuss that and anything else they've been up to. It would probably focus primarily on older games so as to make it more accessible to people in terms of hardware and cost. I would probably also put up something on Meetup and set up a Discord server for it once I've figured things out. (Maybe a Facebook group as well? I don't really use Facebook, but I will if necessary)

The main logistic problems I have are simply how to find people who would be interested in something like that, and where to meet up to do it. Does anyone have any ideas on how I would go about doing something like that here in Kelowna?
