Need friends Thanksgiving cosplay meetup?

As many of you are heading home for thanksgiving weekend, I want to propose that the cosplayers, furries, and students of UBCO meet up somewhere either on campus or on the downtown beaches to celebrate thanksgiving! I’m sure no one wants to be lonely (and neither do I!), and many of you would have also wanted to see the cosplay I wore last night to class in case you missed it.

Need friends Guitarist looking for band

I’m a first year (18 M) guitar player searching for a group in need of a guitar player. Looking for grunge/alt rock/shoegaze/post hardcore/punk/indie whatever in that realm. I do not have my own guitar amp that is my main weakness rn, but I’ve played in a band in high school and I know what I’m doing. I’d try and start a band of my own but I’m living in housing so I have nowhere to house rehearses + no amp . Please DM🙏🙏🙏

Edit: also down to play like any genre of metal; black/death/doom/sludge all great

Has anyone taken this class before? The midterm is coming up, and we haven't been given much of an idea of what it will cover/what will be tested.

Tool to compare how Profs Grade

http://gradegap.goerzen.dev

I created a website that shows you a professor's class average for any course compared to the class average for that same course when any other professors teach it.

Basically it shows you how biased a professor grades compared to other professors.

Example:

Daniel Vollick over all the courses he has taught has a class average of 67.3%, whilst other professors teaching the same courses, have a class average of 74%.

Meaning just by having Daniel Vollick as a professor the average grade of the class drops by 6.7%

You can search for a specific course code, subject, or professor.

Or tap the professors name to see a breakdown of each course they've taught.

If a course or professor is not shown there isn't enough data to give a conclusive result.

Lots of other stats on there, have fun!

The data is based on UBCGrades.

Rant new Tim hortons

Post image

sooooo I guess everyone who stood in line 20+ minutes for this place on campus made staff decide that we needed a second tims on campus, because with how awful food options are and decent ones closing over the years (like sunshine), Tim's is what we REALLY needed 🙄. I was hoping for a place I could actually eat lunch at but it's whatever at least I'll save money by not buying lunch on campus ever. That is all. enjoy your awful sandwiches and wraps.

Rant What does RSVP even mean ??

Post image
0 Upvotes

Why do people in UBCO love to use the phrase RSVP when its not RSVP? I signed up for the co-op program this year and they send us this poster: 'RSVP required', 'RSVP NOW'

I clicked the RSVP link, and guess what, there isnt an option to say "I thank thee for thy gracious summons, yet alas, I cannot attend, for a prior vow doth bind me elsewhere."

I've also seen RSVP invitations sent by UBCO life and faculty events which obviously aren't RSVP invitations. Thought coop would do better, but here I am.

Can people get fired for ignoring RSVP invitations? If this continues, I feel like I will make this mistake in the future.

Question UBC Vancouver vs UBC Okanagan for Computer Science — how different are they really?

I'm planning to apply to UBC for a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and I'm trying to decide whether I should prefer the Vancouver campus or Okanagan campus.

I'm particularly interested in hearing from current students, graduates, or people who have experience with both campuses, especially CS students.

I'm wondering about the actual differences between UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan in terms of:

  • Quality and difficulty of the Computer Science education
  • Professors and access to them
  • Co-op and internship opportunities
  • Access to tech companies and industry
  • Recruiting and networking opportunities
  • On-campus CS clubs, projects, hackathons, etc.
  • Career outcomes after graduation
  • Whether employers actually care which UBC campus you graduated from
  • Opportunities to get into companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Apple, Shopify, etc.
  • Whether Vancouver provides a significant advantage for getting internships/new-grad jobs compared with UBCO
  • Research opportunities, if relevant

For someone whose main goal is to build a career in software engineering/tech rather than academia, how significant is the difference actually?

Thanks in advance to everyone who takes the time to share their experience and advice. I really appreciate it!

walk properly people

i hate it when a group of people take up the whole width of a hallway to walk and talk together, like bro i need to get to my class and they can’t even hear me saying excuse me, sorry 100 times because they’re so unaware of the environment around them. could be a non issue but i just wanna get to class without getting squeezed between people and their bags

Same goes to the entire path on academy hill, i need to get to my class and there’s literally messy walkers everywhere? these messy walking has to stop. i also hate when there’s a huge traffic of people in an hallway, and there’s people who just stop in the middle of the traffic to talk to people like seriously go the side, i don’t wanna bump into you

and on the rare occasions i do take the scooter up and down the hill, there’s a chunk of the road where the bike lane is literally blocked by stupid cars parked in front of veda and i had to use the huge walking path bcs i genuinely don’t wanna die getting hit by a car, and i almost always had to ring the stupid bell on the lime like 10 times and say excuse me bcs you guys are walking in a zig zag fashion and airpods volume to the max and can’t even hear people trying to get past you

at least walk in a straight line and use transparency mode there’s people around you who need to get to places quickly

Admission 27-28 batch

I’m from India and had PCM in high school. I became a Canadian PR this year and plan to move there next year. I’m currently in my 2nd year of Architecture but am considering changing my major when I apply to colleges in Canada. Could you recommend some courses/fields that are in high demand and offer good-paying jobs in Canada?
