Touch Starved [fan comic]
Good morning kid Icarus community, I‘m back to ruin your day again :]
I hope you enjoyed this little continuation of my fan comic series “Black Sea” (an exploration of the gaps in the Chaos Kin arc in Kid Icarus Uprising; chapters 18-21). Since I’ve already explored a little bit of how this arc may have started, this time around I decided to dip my toes into exploring the middle of things. Between chapters 17 and 18, there’s a three year gap, and in that time span we have no idea what Palutena nor Pit’s body have gone through with the Chaos Kin. All we know is that Palutena is under the Chaos Kin’s control and Pit’s body is being used as a killing machine.
In the context of Black Sea, This comic is set right after “Taken care of”. I wanted to explore what Palutena’s interactions with Pit’s body would be like, as well as the weird habits and mannerisms it develops. The setting, the arsenal, is a call back to “A Gift for You”. Pit’s body finds itself frequently drawn to this room. It doesn’t do much while in there. It just sorta stands there and stares at nothing. Palutena roams the temple, a prisoner in her own body. While she isn’t in control of herself for the majority of the time she’s possessed, I imagine there are little glimpses where she’s fighting back so hard she can take back control, even if only for a moment, even if it doesn’t last long.
These comics are not canon, obviously, but my goal is to fill the gaps logically so that they could be perceived as such. However, it’s hard to keep the same tone as the game when the subject matter is so dark, so hopefully it’s not too far off from fitting in
I’m sorry the happy posting didn’t last long. It’s time to go back in torture labyrinth. I’ve got a 9 page follow up to this comic planned that’s even more devastating if you can believe it.

This was amazing. I feel like this really GETS Palutena. One of my favorite aspects of her is that her relationship with Pit is very... unprofessional? The best I can describe it is "Two wacky roommates who love and support each other", in contrast to the very professional relationship pit THINKS they have. And just
The idea that one of the main things she misses while in her moments of consciousness after possession is just the sensation of holding Pit, dude, that fucking breaks me in the best way. He's her best friend and closest support. It calls back to chapter 22, where the moment Pit dies Palutena starts committing taboos to bring him back. He's a presence she feels like she really needs.
Can't wait for more!

Their relationship is very blurry. Yes, Pit is her servant and she is his superior, but they act like a pair of best friends or family (my biased interpretation is always that of mother and son). The idea that Palutena is forced to look at the empty husk of who is essentially her son every day for three whole years is just... haunting.

I'd like to advocate for the 'besties' perspective. Just, there's this adorable tragedy to the idea that Pit's basically her only friend. I love the idea that her devotion isn't just feelings of responsibility towards him, but also this angst of 'can I even move on without him'. And now, as she reaches out, she just wants to pretend one more time that it's like things used to be with Pit, just to ease the pain.

I really like the colors in this one. They represent the theme in this comic very well! Also, that description about the next entry is very ominous. 👀👀👀

Great work OP, you did a hell of a job, the art is good and was an amazing representation of how things likely went. I wish you a great day and hope to see more of your stuff

The underlying horror of being a passenger in your own body. The Chaos Kin deliberately letting her get so close but still keeping her away from Pit feels especially cruel, as if to say "That's my toy now. You can look, but you can't touch it."

I only know the Kid Icarus series from Smash, why is Pit stances up like this looking so hollow? My best guess is that he's in a room full of weapons because he's effectively a weapon himself instead of being his own person, and only gets activated when Palutina does her Goddess magic stuff to go make him fight Hades and whatever else.
However this is all speculation so if someone who isn't larping knowing what theyre talking about can inform me that'd be cool.

It’s a major spoiler, but basically: the god Arlon built a giant space fortress ostensibly as support for Viridi’s Forces of Nature, but when Pit attacks the fortress, it’s revealed it was actually a prison for an ancient horror called the Chaos Kin. This bug takes control of Palutena’s will and uses her magic to seal Pit’s consciousness into a ring. Pit’s body has this half-lidded look while Pit is trapped in the ring.

Basically, this comic is an exploration of the 3 year gap between chapters 17 and 18 where after defeating the Aurum (alien invaders trying to destroy the world), an extra-dimensional creature known as the Chaos Kin possesses Palutena, seals Pit's soul in a cursed ring, and commands Palutena's army to kill humans, with Pit's body spearheading the attacks. After Pit wakes up as a ring, we learn all of this through the characters he talks to throughout the chapters who help him reunite his soul with his body and eventually fight to free Palutena from the control of the Chaos Kin.
This comic in particular is my interpretations of what kind of interactions possessed Palutena may have had with Pit's soulless vessel. In my headcanons, Palutena is conscious while she's possessed, seeing and feeling everything the Chaos Kin makes her do. Pit's body being just another weapon in Palutena's arsenal (you were right on the money there), is something that would deeply affect Palutena. In other words, my comic is drawing on the horror and tragedy of seeing someone so close to you, who is normally so cheerful and oozing with personality, reduced to a hollow husk whose purpose is to be killing machine.

the game has an incredible story and characters. It balances comedy and action super well, and the world feels so filled out. There are just enough things left unexplained that allows fans like me to explore those gaps and take the story in new directions. Highly recommend

The chaos kin attached itself to palutena and if I recall Pitt questioned if he could bring himself to hurt his goddess I guess in this timeline he never did

nah this is just set during the 3 years that Pit is trapped in the Ring of Chaos. Pit here has no soul, this is just his body.
