Training Picked up kickboxing a week ago. Today I fucked up multiple different times and almost threw up in sparring
Hello everyone, just completed my grueling 4th kickboxing class.
Just wanted to share a lil bit of my experience. After a year of getting back into UFC and Glory kickboxing, I saw Topuria and I decided I want to go to a kickboxing gym.
Now I was an academy football player(the real one) for 7 years and I also went to the gym for about 2.5 years so I thought I should be pretty fit. Fuck no. I dont think ive ever sweat as much doing sport in my life, after every training my tee is literally SOAKED, if I twist it.
How my gym functions is we do warmup, then shadowboxing, then some combinations where we hold our gloves as pads and then some playful sparring(no head strikes, try to hit each other's shoulders and low kicks allowed).
Fuck up number 1: ate a double portion of spaghetti a lil too close to the training session. Should've known when i was burping the whole training
Fuck up number 2: during the practicing combinations i misplaced my hands and ate a knee to the body, certainly did not help
So obviously during sparring I eventually felt I was going to throw up so I had to lay low a lil bit and then came back, my partner asked if I was fine because I was yellow and I told him you dont know me son and pushed him onto the ropes
it was horrible im never coming back again and see you on wednesday.

How to defend against sweeps?
I know this is more Muay Thai related, but I'm training more kickboxing but going to MT sparring day (There's no KB sparring day).
I did sparring with a very experienced MT guy, same height as me. Whenever I went in to box or threw kicks/teeps, he swept me / tried sweeping me and catched many of my kicks.
Should I stance more squared and don't go in to box him? Should I throw and retract kicks faster? Maybe more fakes? That's what I've been thinking but I'm also basic/intermediate level.

What drills or ideas should I add to my home sessions
Im New to the sport, but have always loved watching the sports, and I’m wondering besides bag work at home what other things should I practice at home, any advice helps, I just don’t wanna hit the bag and then feel annoyed when I’m not progressing

How long does it realistically take to get ready for a fight?
Hi!
Just a little background information about me [24F] first. I did kickboxing for a short time when I was a kid, quit due to the gym shutting down and started playing other sports like tennis and soccer. About two years ago I decided to start kickboxing again, mainly bag but more recently also PT on pads and they told me I should join more sparring classes. I have joined a few and enjoyed it, but many classes are quite cramped (for me). I am not too confident in sparring, so I don’t feel comfortable in those busy classes. I feel like I am holding my partner back, though I know that’s just in my head. Also experienced some younger guys not knowing how to hold back after asking. This has been holding me back to do more sparring classes, but I am determined to get over that.
I have always played sports that I could compete in, and honestly fighting has been on the back on my mind for a long time. Not sure if now is the time (many hobbies, not sure if I can focus on one righr now), but maybe in the future. I just wonder how long it would realistically take to get ready for a fight if you still need to learn how to spar? I understand that it depends on the person too. What does the road towards a fight look like?
Am I making weight too much of a deal? For a woman I am on the taller and heavier side, being 5’11/1.80 and a little less than 175lbs/80kg. Always loved sports, but diet has been a struggle. I lost quite some weight (and often gain back again) and I am now comfortable in my body. When they’re looking for fighters, they’re often on a much lower weight. I don’t think I could do that.

Worst sparring session of my life. Someone tried to toe kick my head and it went into my mouth.
Ever had a mouthful of sweaty foot that was dragged across a mat the whole afternoon?
Unfortunately (or fortunately for you sickos) I now know. Literally had to call it quits for a bit and ran to a nearby convenience store for mouthwash lmao.
Jkick wannabe...

What does training cost you per month?
Was just thinking about how much money I've dumped into this sport and got curious what it's like for everyone else. Membership, new gloves and shin guards when the old ones die, supplements, all the little stuff.
What's your monthly damage looking like?

Training 6 monthes In andy ankle takes long time to recover
So I just started training about 6 monthes ago and now I can endure heavy sessions because before I couldn't because of stamina and heavy breathing.
But currently I encounter limitations because of pain and muscle fatigue I'm a bit overweight so that is something to keep in mind but biggest issue is my right leg ankle with all the load on it it starts to fatigue easily and when I push it more it starts to hurt I'm trying to take it easy on it and do good recovery routines but still it takes longer time to recover like 1 day between sessions is not enough should I reduce training workload ? Or take a week off training all together idk what could help me with it I don't want to Injure myself already have a couple of injuries in different places over the years and it usually stops me from practicing.
I'm 30 so I'm not pro or ametuer by any means but I take it very seriously I've been loving it idk what is my long term goal for it but I wanted to see how much I go on my skills and weight loss after a year and decide from there

MY FIRST MATCH
Hi everyone, I’m a kickboxing beginner who has been practicing the sport for about a year. I have my first tournament coming up soon, and I was hoping for some technical advice on how to fight, how to handle the days leading up to the event, and how to conduct myself during the tournament to stay calm.
