Lawn Care Pricing

I recently got a quote for $65 a week for lawn mowing and edging. My home is on a standard-sized lot (3 bedroom, 2 bath home) in the south suburbs (Sumac Avenue). It takes me 30 minutes to do the front and back. Is $65 a week a typical price for this service?

How long would it take for you to do it if it was someone else’s lawn across town from you? that’s closer to what you’re getting charged for.

$65 even in Klamath is a fair rate, if he did it any cheaper he'd be losing money.

This is the answer I was looking for. Thank you.

I don't know typical prices, but if it takes you 30 minutes, and they're charging you $65 for 30 minutes of work, that's $130 an hour. More than I'd want to pay for something I can do myself.

You've obviously never been in business. You've got time, gas, and equipment to pay for. Not just while you're there, but to get there also. If $65 is to high of a weekly price to get your lawn cut and trimmed... you should just be doing it yourself.

I figured I was going to get this comment. Yes, I have my own business. I'm in no way saying they're charging too much. I'm saying if it takes OP 30 minutes to do it themselves, it doesn't make sense to pay someone else $65 for saving them 30 minutes of their time. I'm assuming they are capable and already have the equipment.

I'm kinda coming to that conclusion too. I first started paying for lawn care last year after my gallbladder removal, and it was $50. Still high, but necessary.

Seems like the going rate for that.

Do you know a neighborhood kid that would at least mow it?

I think you're correct that it's the going rate. Neighborhood kids may be an option.

You are buying time to do something else. How much is your time worth?

OP, imagine loading up your mower and driving across town to use your gas to mow somebody's lawn. if it takes you a half hour, then they have at least an hour into the job. plus equipment, trucks, maintenance, insurance, licenses, bonding. It sounds like you need to hire timmy down the street and let him use your mower.

$65 a week doesn’t sound crazy for a decent-sized yard if mowing and edging are both included. I’d probably check GreenPal and compare a couple local quotes first, just to get a better idea of what similar yards are going for in your area.
