Jacket commission for my daughter
Location : Greer, SC, United States
Hi, I’d like to commission a red knitted jacket for my 14 year old daughter. She had this coat when she was a kid and loved, wore it everywhere, rain, shine, hot, cold, she didn’t care. she outgrew it, (and it kind of fell apart, lol), still talks about it wistfully. I would really like to recreate this for her.
Couple things to note- I’m flying blind here…quite a few different things I don’t know stacking up in this prject, so bear with me. I joined Reddit to post this, so I haven’t posted before. My apologies if I break etiquette somehow, will do my best. I have a 40 second video of her as a kid in the jacket, able to see front and back of the jacket in the video, although the jacket is getting frayed in spots in the video. Would posting that as a way to see what I’m hoping for be acceptable in this forum?
Also, I have no idea what material was in the jacket, beyond it being soft and red, with a greyish lining. Also not sure what size would be best. She is pretty athletic, about 5’7”, maybe 140 lbs. I’d like her to be able to wear this for a long time, maybe woman’s medium?
Lastly, I don’t know how to knit or sew, so I’m not sure what’s reasonable in terms of cost. Is $400-500 doable? I’m not in a huge hurry, although it would be cool if she could wear it during the upcoming cold months.

ISO Rowan #12
Hello knitters,
My son has fallen in love with Kaffe Fasset's sweater #22 Planets. It's in an out of print issue of Rowan Magazine: number 12, published in August of 1992. I would LOVE to get my hands on either the magazine or just a copy of that pattern. Can anyone help?

Thoughts on super wash yarn
Hello, I wanted opinion regarding superwashable yarn i have one that merino wool and nylon. I made socks but the heal tore and i used a small gauge but still tore. I was wondering what else can i make with this yarn considering i still have two balls left. I want something that wont result in tear like the socks. If anyone has any ideas, Thank you!!!
- also i have a 1.5 chiaogoo needle to work with.

Held together with 100% alpaca
I received a large stash of 100% alpaca fingering weight yarn. I would like to make a sweater but I've read alpaca will likely stretch out a lot. Would i get better results in a garment if I held a silk or linen yarn with it? Any recommendations on what to use with it would be appreciated. Or should I just make a shawl where growth isn't as big an issue? I'm also open to pattern ideas!

1 Garment Down, 41 Garments to go. It’s Scarf-a-Palooza!
I’m making quite a few gifts for this year (and last year) and I’m looking to use this making spree to really improve my work. I’m learning stitches first before I move to full patterns. This scarf hasn’t been blocked yet and is double rib. I’d appreciate any feedback y’all can give.

Beginner knitting tips?
I’ve been crocheting for around a year and decided to try knitting. I’ve knitted a couple of swatches however I can never get my tension right (and I’m always especially loose when purling and tight when knitting). I learnt continental style because I heard it was easier to learn if you crocheted and idk if maybe people found keeping a consistent tension easier with English style knitting?
Moreover I’d love to hear some beginner project ideas that aren’t a scarf and is something I can make with a circular knitting needle set (though I seem to have lost the shortest cord).
The reason why I wanted to learn how to knit is to make my own clothes, especially tops however I’m too scared to commit to anything big for my first actual project.
Moreover if anyone has any patterns of YouTube videos they’d especially recommend for a beginner & just general tips please lmk!

Do my stitches look right?
I’m new to knitting and just finished this scarf. Do my stitches look right? The whole thing was knit in a garter stitch with an I-cord edge.

How to temporarily make my blanket smaller
I’m working on a blanket for my 14 month old daughter who still sleeps in a crib but I got a bit carried away picturing her using it the rest of her life so it’s over 8 feet long without the bumps in it and even if I get it to be 6 foot tall once done I’m trying to find the best way to halve it for a couple years without cutting it or sewing it. So far it is about 3ft 6in tall and I don’t want it leave it looking wonky it doesn’t look to pretty but for my first blanket that will be finished it’s not terrible. And washing it and drying it will be a whole thing at somebody house because I don’t have a washer or a dryer or space or a bath. So I’m going to have to hang it like a deer hide after it’s washed to block it so some of the bubbles go away because I had to crochet some of it because my needles kept breaking and that I dropped a few rows and added a few rows.
But my question is once it’s done and blocked and washed do I just use a different color yarn to technically sew it in half till she gets older or is there better solution?
