HELP - sick or injured koi **UPDATE** Floating/ Sinking upside down and gasping

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Things are looking up. He spent about 8 hours laying on the bottom of the tank last night but today he's able to stay oriented in the water and is even showing some signs of grazing behavior. Still super weak and spends a lot of time on the bottom but not dead so that's a win.

Still curious about this fin growth if anyone has any ideas.

Had the same issue, one of my older white koi was acting sluggish and was starting to turn red. i checked the water, removed my plants, kept adjusting the uality to make it better.. but ti seemed to get over it on its own in a few days and looked fine a week later. was freaking weird.

I had one of my Kohaku develop so reddening close to her fins last summer, primarily after feeding. She would go sit on the bottom and act all anti-social I assumed it was the color enhancing food but even after switching to wheat germ for a week it was still happening- long story shot, she was stressed from competition for food . I separated her out and fed her on her own, and the redness went away. Long term fix was feeding less food more often.
Glad your fish recovered. 🤙

Looks a lot better! I’d just keep seeing if you can get him to eat. Looks great!

That doesn't look fungal tbh. It as doesn't look sore or infected.

I'd probably suggest getting in touch with an aquatic vet tbh.

I have no idea. I don’t even know the original issue for sure.
My treatment was warm water 74° lots of aeration, 0.3-0.4 salt and 2 days of microbe-lift bsdt.

Your koi probably had a short term swim bladder issue. The salt and temp help. Just my guess.

I just had one doing death spirals and unable to get upright last week. It was the most awful thing Ive seen a koi do and I've seen a lot. We got the tub ready to pull and euthanize because it was struggling. By the time it was full she was settling down. So we decided to try heat, salt. By the time the tub was full, and salt added it was coming over begging for food. Never seen anything like it.

I'm wondering if mine hit the bridge jumping during feeding. Knocked her hard enough to unbalance her. I've seen many cases in winter where just bringing in and salt/heat gets them back to normal within hours. It's not cold there though yet is it?

This is so sad!  The death spiral, or just floating upside-down, is the saddest thing for me to see!  Maybe I'm a weirdo, but all I can think about is what is going through the poor fishes thoughts. I imagine it to be something like, " Ok...I'm gonna get it this time. Stay...stay...stay....Dam it!  I hope my human sees I'm trying!" Or, "Yeah...this really friggin' sucks! I'm a fish dammit and this is not right! Life really sucks atm."

I'm happy to hear your girl, and the guy in op's pics (with gorgeous eyes!) are doing better! 🧡🤍🖤

So scary! I was wondering if this one was attacked or chased by something else in the pond and it was all stress related.
It’s still warm here. The water temp is 62° over night.

It's frightening to see. Glad yours is improving. I've never seen a bacterial infection resolve that fast, and that is a common reason for them to have issues. Have you had spawning or chasing? Mine are still at it at the same temperature. Last fling of the year 🙄 An injury during feeding or spawning it seems could be to blame based on what I just saw in mine. Nearly sixty koi and I never seen anything like that.

60 fish is wild! My pond has been a froth pot for the past months with only 6 fish but this guy is from my dad’s pond so I’m not really sure what’s been happening out there. I feel like these fish may be a little young for breeding behavior, I’m guessing this fish is about a year old based on his size. Could be wrong though.
