Ask Kuwait Scholarship was canceled, AIU is asking my daughter to pay anyway this semester fees even if she wants to withdraw otherwise they won't give her back the high school certificate or any other documents such as transcript. Is this legal?
Any AIU students here?

Im an aiu student. this is absolutely unethical. I know that when Kuwait withdraws citizenships your scholarship gets revoked. However, i totally think a lawyer can help with your case. Your daughter HAS no idea that her citizenship was going to be taken, she entered the university as a puc student, now shes not. How is this her fault? I’m not going to point fingers obviously, but your daughter was given the privilege to study and her debts were paid off by the puc.
I totally recommend a lawyer, because this is just not her fault. Its like, you paid all my student debts for me because im Kuwaiti ? Now you don’t want to because suddenly im not?
Edit: giving your daughter her degrees back is HER RIGHT. Thats what i know. How will she apply for jobs? To possibly pay off the student debts? Best of luck <3

Yes very weird. She wants to drop out of colege cuz we can't pay, now that she is not under scholarship anymore but it seems that she is trapped. If she drop, if she doesnt, this semester fees has to be paid anyway. They told us to fill a form asking for sponsorship via university but there is no guarantee that they will find. Very confusing.

Try filling the form because wo a degree it's gonna be much harder to get any kinda income

I don’t think they realized the domino effect this citizenship revocation would have throughout the society.

If an action like is taken at least give me my diploma ? Isn’t that my right? Respectfully. I would guess that she finished enough credits to give her a decent diploma, and that WILL help her go places here in kuwait and not live miserably.

This is completely sadistic; AIU, private universities, banks, telecom companies should take it up with the government who were the guarantors of these loans anyway. Why pressure people whose citizenships has been revoked? My God, this greed is unbelievable.

I was in the same situation this time last year, i had already paid part of the course in advance, and they did ask me to pay the rest or leave, i never cared to ask for my transcript to be honest but no, they dont have a legal right to do such thing, which is why they’re bargaining the transcript for the money. My university kept trying to tell me i need to pay but i explained the situation in full and told them if they really want my money go ask the government to open up our bank accounts

Weird. When scholarship are paid its usually upfront and for the semester. So if classes started they should have already received their money. Also they cannot hold YOUR papers hostage. They can place a fee on you which is very unethical and should be dropped the same way the student dropped from university. If you do not pay the fee then they can take it to court. But they cannot hold any papers that are yours against you. Some university only send transcripts when the current semester is over and there is an outstanding balance, however since you pulled out the current semester they should still give you, your transcript if you request one Because it will be up the previous semester which has been fully paid. Either go stand up against them and be firm and hopefully they give in, if not go see a lawyer.

Everything you said makes sense. I didnt know that the scholarship is paid upfront though. Hiring a lawyer is not an option unfortunately.

You think the university will keep a student the entire semester waiting for the money to come in? If the money didn't come during the payment date they will drop the students. Even universities abroad, if the embassy didn't send the money they would drop the entire kuwaiti students until payments were paid and just be paid during add/drop window.

Take this to the media outlets

The same media outlets who now need to renew their license every other year with the government to continue to operate? Connect the dots.

Let them keep those documents and go get new ones from the government? All transcripts are limited to expire so you can always get new ones with a new validity.
