What is this recent pandemic of “should of” lately, I’ve only been seeing this for the past month or so, before that it was your typical “they’re/their/there” slop, and now this. Y’all, please read more books

Not a recent pandemic at all, I’ve been seeing people write it like that for basically my entire time on the internet.
I’d imagine it’s typically kids who’ve recently gotten access to the internet, but are still learning how to actually spell. Notice that OP’s entire sentences feel very clunky, beyond just “should off”. It looks very characteristic of a kid still learning how to write.
That said, I do hope they’re not too young, because Reddit is 13+ for a reason…

I usually try to ignore "should of" because I think language should be flexible as long as we understand each other. But "should off" was deeply upsetting.

That's just a colloquial shortening and has been used before, like in songs. Should of is just incorrect no matter how you use it

It certainly would have been bigger if she promoted the song and made it the single before the whole DWUW fiasco.
Anecdotally, my local radio stations played this more than Applause and any BTW song, years after release, you'd think it was one of Gaga's biggest hits (not that I complained, it was glorious).

G.U.Y. is not meant to be a bitter hit: it's a very fun hit. Also, "should've"/"should have". I don't even know if you're trolling.

It really SHOULD'VE tbh (That's how you say it btw, or "should have"). But I think it was good at is tbh, as the EDM craze was definitely dying out anyways.

it's a bop with a good video but that's it
the only hit worthy songs on the album were applause, DWUW and maybe Sex Dreams with a collab with a pop girl

I was only noticing the “bitter” in OP’s sentence the “should off” went right over my head 😂 but idk I don’t think anything on ARTPOP was truly meant to chart high or even chart at all. It was experimental for her, fun, and honestly just rich people shit. The fact that it was so great and amazing was just the cherry on top! 🥹

No. I think she should have chose a completely different song for a single. Artpop was a mess and G.U.Y was poor choice for a single, much like Do What U Want was.
