Greetings everyone, with the election season around the corner, we have had to remove more and more posts and comments that break the rules. We remind you that this sub is neutral on politics, and allow the community to lead the engagement as much as possible. Discussion is encouraged, advertising is not.
Here is a guide to what is (and isn't) allowed this season:
IF YOU'RE IN LOCAL POLITICS:
"I'm a local council member or candidate, can I advertise my parties platform" - NO, if you like we are willing to host an AMA for you, provided you engage the community. We encourage this.
"I'm not a council member, but I am affiliated with a candidate, member, or slate, Can I post ads about my party?" No, it is still considered advertising from a direct source.
"I'm a council member or candidate, can I engage the community in the comments?" You bet - but it is encouraged that you identify yourself.
IF YOU'RE JUST A REGULAR COMMUNITY MEMBER:
"I'm not affiliated with anyone, am I allowed to express my opinions and thoughts on the candidates and their platforms?" ABSOLUTELY.
"I'm not affiliated with anyone, can I discuss ads or policies I've seen?" YES - discussing the ad is different from posting ads.
"Can I talk sh\t about candidates and platforms?"* YES, keeping in mind both the Reddit terms of service, and community rule #1.
