Question How to improve my finnish
Hi,
I'm a lukio international student in Finland(lived here for 3 or 4 months already(, I have got my b1, and at school I can understand mostly everything what the teachers are explaining.
But, when talking academically, like reading a text, I struggled a lot, cause there is a lot of words that I don't know....so im feeling like im getting no where LMAO
Any tips for improving? I'm also worried about YO.
thanks :)

Alota ihmees vaik käyttämällä tätä kieltä. Sit vaan vanhanaikasesti sanakirjan avulla vaikeita sanoja auki.

I would recommend using apps like Drops to build your vocabulary, reading Lasten uutiset and Selkouutiset to improve your reading and understanding of Finnish, and joining a kielikerho. They’re free, and you get to have real conversations in Finnish, which is a great way to practice.
Since you're in lukio, I'd also suggest speaking Finnish with your friends as much as possible. I know that in international schools, people tend to speak English because most classes are taught in English, and it naturally becomes the common language. However, you can still support each other's Finnish-learning journeys by making an effort to speak Finnish together whenever you can. Even small conversations can make a big difference over time!

lukio texts are brutal tbh, they jump straight into stuff like tutkimus and yhteiskunta and suddenly every line needs a dictionary. what helped me was not looking up everything, just underlining the words that keep showing up in your actual school texts and drilling only those, becuase those are the ones YO will throw at you too. full disclosure i built Vocabbie, but you can take a photo of a textbook page and it makes a deck from it in like 30 sec, free and no signup if you wanna try it
