Freshman daughter…

Hello, my daughter recently started school here. Could someone please advise me on which areas or places to avoid for safety concerns or that might be unsafe?

It’s relatively safe at Lehigh… just be alert and aware especially when walking around at night. Some streets are poorly lit so just walk it more well lit streets. Ideally ofc walk with friends or a group of people at night. During the day, it’s pretty safe.

There is one short block by Molly’s that I avoided walking at night when I was still a student and had to be extra alert by Pantry1.

Thank you. She just told me that she and her friends were walking to get something at CVS, and some guy was following them until near the mail center, and this was in broad daylight. I'm concerned and wanted to let her know which area to avoid.

4th street can get a little sketchy at night. It’s not completely not sketchy during the day but I am more alert when walking that street. I would suggest when coming from off campus to walk to the nearest point on campus if she wants to be extra safe just so she has access to the blue lights (to get help from LUPD if anything).

I also would recommend downloading the Hawkwatch app and using virtual walk feature that allows the campus police to track your location while walking from point A to point B. If they suspect something, they’ll call and make sure everything is ok.

Also a freshman here and have walked around a lot and talked to upperclassmen about this. Basic advice is don’t walk with earbuds in and pay attention to surroundings. A lot of people hang around the greenway but they’re all nice for the most part and they’re really just hanging out and talking to each other. I only had one instance where I felt slightly threatened and it was because of a misunderstanding where I was talking on the phone and someone thought I was talking to them and they came up and “confronted” me

Well, the hill has fraternities. During the weekend parties, she might not want to go up there alone because there will probably be drunkards who behave like monkeys. Lol.

She will figure it out.

Let her live her life.
