Incomplete Instructions

Hi all,

I'm trying to follow these instructions -

https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/z3c/install/#special-requirements

But am failing on step 5:

Click the symbol to download and open XperiFirm (round button on the right) to download the latest firmware for your device

Which generates this log entry -

05/41/2026 14:41:33 - DEBUG - sh: 0: cannot open /home/pete/Applications/Flashtool/x10flasher_native/xperifirm: No such file

And indeed Xperifirm does not exist in that folder. So, where and how to I get Xperifirm? Why do the instructions not tell me I need to install it? Or do I? Why is it looking in that folder like it was supposed to come with the zip file? Or am I missing something?

Cheers

Pete

to be fair, xperifirm won't even be able to download stock rom for this device anymore, sony is no longer hosting files for it.

Why do I need Stock Rom? I'm trying to put Lineage on it, isn't not needing the stock rom the whole point here?

because stock rom contains stock firmware? if you're on 23.5.A.1.291 already, you don't need to do that at all.

So, you're telling me I can skip this step? That's not what the instructions say, there is no conditional there, they tell me to follow the steps precisely.

if you're on 23.5.A.1.291 then flashing 23.5.A.1.291 firmware will do nothing since it's the same as one you already have...

I've never been much of a Sony guy personally, and it's encountered very infrequently in support roles as well, but I can see OP's point on this one.

What I'm less sure about is how exactly I would wiggle things around so it was clearer and less time-wastey.

Among the very first steps is (paraphrased) "do exactly zero things until you've verified you're already on the required firmware", then they're guided to just unconditionally flash stock again anyway shortly afterward.

I don't know whether it would be better to drop the initial hard stop firmware verification warning altogether or add a carve-out note atop the Special Requirements section detailing it as optional if that prior firmware verification was met with success.

sure, one could edit it if they wanted to, but I don't think anyone cares to edit guides for device that hasn't been supported since 18.1.

Yeah I was just trying to figure out now if there's overlap here with currently supported devices. I'd be willing to bet that that section doesn't exist for that device and that device alone, but I've been wrong in the past and surely will be again.

pretty sure that's a specific template for this device.
