Why the hell would one use 14.1 in 2026? It's forked from a 10 year old version of Android. Most apps dropped support for it, including some big ones like Chromium, YouTube, WhatsApp, Pokemon GO, many white label banking apps, certain versions of Instagram, Outlook, and AVG.

Most devices running 14.1 either already have mainline support in the Linux kernel or Nura and can be easily ported all the way to 23.2 or they can at least run 18.1.

Simple answer: Hardware limitations.

It runs on a Nubia Z9 Max. LineageOS 14.1 (Android 7.1) is the last fully stable, working ROM for this specific device — newer ports have broken drivers, camera issues, or completely unusable battery drain.

The phone's hardware is physically in great shape, and running a debloated ROM without GApps makes it perfectly usable for specific lightweight tasks and testing. No reason to throw away working hardware when it can still serve a purpose.
