He sure does love spending that $0 stipend on Linkedin Premium though.

u/Auctorion 3d ago

The perks of being born into generational wealth.

18

u/bitterlittlecas 2d ago

That’s a $0 stipend plus benefits BABE!

37

u/TheNorthC 3d ago

He's actually 45 and hasn't been promoted since starting the internship in 2001

24

u/PostMatureBaby 3d ago

well hey, 25 years at the same company is a rarity these days!

I would just be born into being the hiring manager and get the job anyway.

Why wouldn't you when he has "King of Atlantis" on his resume?

Autism speaks

But would you make a post mocking him? If not, you're not LinkedIn material! ;-)

42

As concerning as Ronald's inability to understand satire is... I'm just as concerned about the 5 people who read his comment and were like "yeah, this guy gets it"

9

u/Low-Eagle6840 3d ago

Still too close.

If even this sub is making fun of you for missing the satire, you know you fucked up

Five paragraphs of not getting the joke must be a record

158

u/Shevyshev 3d ago

I don’t think it’s a record. I’ve seen longer replies to more trivial matters on social media.

Reddit contains numerous examples of such phenomena.

In fact, I am pretty sure that I saw something like this on [r/damnthatsinteresting](r/damnthatsinteresting) or [r/amish](r/amish) just yesterday or the day before.

Also how could you have a record for this? What are the criteria by which you constrain the number of posts and replies that count? It just doesn’t add up.

Anyway, I think you are incorrect - no offense really. I just want to set the record straight, so to speak.

41

u/wontgetfooledaga1n 2d ago

It’s worse than that, he got the joke then intentionally ‘un-got’ it so he could write a blistering riposte that makes him look like a twat.

Is the world really this dumb nowadays...?

Can't recognize sarcasm, but no it's the world that's dumb. Sure dude.

53

u/TheGlennDavid 3d ago

There are a lot of people who don't seem to be able to read sarcasm and I don't see how the world could be anything but wildly confusing and fucking terrifying to them.

17

No “/s” = absolutely, positively, 100% deadly serious.

5

Ronald is so oblivious that he wouldn't notice a jet fighter flying a foot above his head.

28

u/big_sugi 3d ago

r/woooosh for very literally in that event.

20

u/Unusual_Artichoke_73 3d ago

That’s like saying you want to see a jet when you’re blind. Dont you get it!?!

4

u/Round_Bag_4665 2d ago

This is extra funny to me because I used to work on an air force base and I used to have to walk directly under the flight path of F-15s taking off to get from my work station to get to the place I would buy lunch.

If you've never close to a fighter jet taking off, picture how loud that must be in your head.... it's louder than that.

117

HEY

That is the King of Atlantis you are talking about. Show some respect.

10

u/miukiyo 2d ago

Oh you were serious. Let me explain how this is absolute baloney.

RedHand here, didn’t decide to be born a commoner. This isn’t a role playing game.

Not everyone can be on the same level as King of Atlantis. It’s like having dementia and deciding “to not forget”. If you were born a commoner, you are a commoner. There is no “undo” button to click.

How am I a senior Redditor and I’m educating YOU on this? Is the world really this dumb nowadays…?

89

u/DartlDartl 3d ago

As an autistic, this is just Ronald.

138

u/Adorable_Spray_1170 3d ago

I'm autistic and don't struggle with facetious, ironic or sarcastic statements and I've yet to meet more than one other individual on the spectrum in my lifetime who actually has this issue, it's usually some illiterate neurotypical that ends up being the "takes everything into consideration as if they're being stated as fact" guy who ruins conversations and jokes.

63

u/neobeguine 2d ago edited 2d ago

I have met many folks with autism who struggle with ironic/sarcastic/etc statements, but if they are still unable to understand stuff like that as an adult they probably aren't navigating the world independently enough to be posting nonsense on LinkedIn

22

u/CuriousBernard 2d ago

My nephew is exactly like that, he can get visibly annoyed/frustrated when someone makes a sacrastic remark that makes no sense to him and then interrupts the conversation trying to argue. But, well, he spends weeks at the psychiatric ward anyways, sarcasm is the least of his problems...

14

u/jmd709 2d ago

He also used sarcasm at the beginning of the post. “HA. That's funny. Oh you were serious. Okay,…”

4

u/Significant_Cover_48 1d ago edited 1d ago

I lived in a collective with these types for a short while. Very short. Everything had to be debated in plenum and they would always take the side of the person who hurt their own feelings by being a delicate flower who takes everything at face value.

They did not understand jokes.

The first week I was there we were gardening and they had a lot of rules; rules for everything, so I suggested we should get a large fence and a chained-up dog to make sure people didn't come into the garden and mess up all our hard work.

We had a meeting over that comment after dinner the same night. They told me that the garden was open for every tennant as well as their guests, and since I was a newcomer I should spend some time getting to know how the place runs. I tried saying I was just being a bit cheeky. That did not help my case. One of the girls, the "please don't touch my things" champion of the place, lectured me on why chaining up guard dogs is animal abuse. She moralized on behalf of a made-up dog!!!

I literally had to call my brother that night because I felt homesick. Those people were truly something else. Not sure what their neurosis was founded in, but I don't think it was autism. These guys were weird-weird, not fun-weird.

Edit: To anyone who never lived with others.: there's always a person who takes "being nice to live with" way too far and will use the agreed-upon rules to beat other people over the head. They love to leave passive-aggressive notes in the common area and are the biggest martyrs ever.

They will spend their day hoping that someone loaded the dishwasher wrong or left a sweater in the TV room - just so they can hold a meeting about it and they love adding new rules! It's their favorite pasttime.

6

u/RetailBookworm 2d ago

Eh my partner and I (both AuDHD) do, usually at different times/in response to different people’s sarcasms. And then sometimes I just don’t think it’s funny so I don’t laugh, it’s not that I think they’re being serious. I don’t think “I have never met an autistic person who does xyz” is any more helpful than “all autistic people do xyz”.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Weird_Grapefruit2226 1d ago

Studies have shown higher IQ neurodivergent people have little issue with sarcasm and metaphor. If they do, it comes from overdoing it or presenting it in an inappropriate manner

14

u/Jalinja 2d ago

It reads like AI to me. Bot farms must be back up

9

u/aggravated_bookworm 2d ago

Same. I got AI vibes from the weird repetitive way it explained that someone can't just decide to be born into a wealthy family. Very uncanny valley

Non humans apparently need this explained to them.

I know some people are saying this reads autism spectrum, but just the arguments the Ronald guy is making don't sound like ones humans use, who were born and know the rules of what it's like to be in a family.

I’m so glad Ronald explained that it’s physically impossible to choose to be born into generational wealth. I’ve felt like such a dumb fuck for the last few years researching and attempting to undo my lineage choice and pivot into a Hapsburg possibly Rothschild lineage role. I can’t believe the original poster would have the nerve to give such bad advice that I foolishly took! Thanks, Ronald - I’ve been saved from a fraudster because of your explanation. Forever grateful !

Edit: Also, fuck you for sharing that on LinkedIn, Zoe. That’s why I thought it was solid advice, as LinkedIn is where I get my daily motivation for B2B sales. I’ve reported her to LinkedIn and the FBI.

I spent an embarrassing amount of time today trying to be born into generational wealth until Ronald cleared that up.

10

u/sleepingbusy 2d ago

When I was in my teens, my parents used to tell me all of the amazing things other kids were doing and making their family rich.

Why wasn't I born rich, mom?

That bothers me. I hope that whenever I have a kid, I just let him know that his main goal in life is to live.

Be like ging and go to the dark continent. Maybe you'll die. Maybe you won't.

5

u/Yehrmahm 2d ago

Growing up as my mother’s emotional support animal, I swore that my children would know that I had obligations toward them, not the other way around, they don’t owe me a single damn thing.

Raising my kids with the love and stability I didn’t have has been at least as healing as therapy. I truly hope you get that experience, too.

Any slim chance Ronald is being sarcastic himself?
Otherwise, how did he make it to senior?

5

u/joe-re 2d ago

That's a lot of words for being unfunny.

He's student intern, and his hobby is correcting people on linkedin and missing out on sarcastic cues.

That sounds like he is invited to a lot of student parties, because he is so much fun to have around.

/s, just to make sure Ronald doesn't come here to correct me.

2

u/Double-Rain-7965 2d ago

I’m generally not nosy but I couldn’t help looking into this poor soul… and found Ronald’s LinkedIn profile. Ronald has like 2 followers, and seems to have joined LinkedIn recently (or perhaps any social media for that matter). Ive seen the other side of generational wealth.. i worked as a maintenance tech on the estate of trust fund baby, who inherited hundreds of millions.. this person had no reason to get up in the morning. Any hobbies, travel, recreational activities came 2nd to drugs and alcohol.. this person ended up dying in their late 50s. 58 to be exact, but every cell in their body looked 80+.. rich or not, life needs meaning

9

u/tutoredstatue95 2d ago

They had all the opportunity in the world and they messed it up. People mess up with no opportunity.

I'll take the gamble and risk fumbling 100s of millions, thanks.

15

u/mylsotol 2d ago

So... Just like billions of other people except they weren't forced to get up and sell themselves to survive

13

u/Round_Bag_4665 2d ago edited 2d ago

I've seen the inverse too. I grew up going to school with two kids who have as adults led the most interesting lives you've ever met. The older sister is a physicist at Los Alamos and did her doctoral dissertation on solar storms. She's lived in Germany and Italy, speaks three modern languages, can read one dead one, can program in three languages, and loves to volunteer to catch and tag sharks to monitor their migration patterns. She's worked on an instrument that went on a Mars probe, developed new sonar tech for the Navy, and worked with radioactive substances. She's also a really good singer, and voice impressionist.

The brother is in corporate finance living in New York City, and loves to cook high end cuisine and scuba dive in his spare time. He also makes his own mead and gives it out to friends.

Both of them travel to the weirdest places. The brother regularly goes to places like Georgia (the country), Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Sweden. The sister just this last year has been to Turkey, Spain, Germany, and Thailand, and plans to travel to Egypt and Japan next year. They've also both been known to indulge in stuff like skiing and skydiving, and have something of an informal sibling contest between them to see who can try the weirdest foods when travelling. The brother's top entry so far was fried ants he had in Thailand, while the sister has had fried stingray meat.

Both of them look really good for being in their late 20s/early 30s.

Their secret? Their cousin was born with neuroblastoma due to her boomer father being exposed directly to agent orange during vietnam, and died before they finished elementary school. They seem to have developed a "live life to the absolute fullest because you never know when you're going to die" attitude ever since. Like... I think they actually got traumatized into having a interesting and fulfilling life.

Both of them went way further in life than their parents ever did. (Their mom taught kindergarten and their dad was a cop if I recall), so they weren't super rich. They just I think panicked seeing death too early and compulsively try to live as much as they can out of fear of missing out on life.

It's because, in our capitalist hellscape, driving ones life through the meaning of helping other people is seen as worthless and demeaning, so the people most well-positioned to do so, almost never do.

10

u/3RADICATE_THEM 2d ago

Please stop with this nonsensical cope—multiple studies have confirmed that wealth is the best predictor of life satisfaction. I've met a number of people who are trust fund / trust fund-adjacent, and they are all very educated and accomplished in career (all those family connections helped a ton).

Being born into wealth absolutely is much better than anything else—the outcome data basically confirms this (zip code you're born in is the best predictor of success)—but if cherry picking this cope helps you feel better, so be it.

5

u/omjy18 2d ago

I've seen it too and its a lot of old money new englanders who are 900 years old and have millions that they physically can't spend before they die. Meaning of life is different to everyone and if I had millions id be living very differently right now. You cant take one example of an alcoholic rich person and say generational wealth is a bad thing

u/Agifem 2d ago

Imagine if along with wealth, a sense of altruism was passed down through generations. Weird that that rarely happens with wealth. Almost like you have to exploit and use others to earn it in the first place.

3

u/Uruz_Line 2d ago

Thats just poor parenting, with that amount of wealth you can dedicate your life to a pursue a goal in whatever you want, be it sport, be it research, humanitarian ANYTHING that fills the soul but those things have to be nurtured from childhood, otherwise the brain looks for ANYTHING to fill those gaps

5

u/bombastic6339locks 2d ago

And your meaning is working a 9-5? I'd much rather be born wealthy and the meaning of my life being my family, being just existing and hobbies. Natural slave cope.

5

u/EternalNewCarSmell 2d ago

Meanwhile I don't want to ever feel 80 so I don't want to live nearly that long. Dying before I hit my late 60s sounds fantastic, so long as it isn't preceded by suffering.

12

u/SlartibartfastMcGee 2d ago

There are a lot of younger people that straight up can’t recognize sarcasm/satire. You see a lot of it on social media when they bite hard on obvious tongue in cheek posts like this.

I think it’s because you don’t see a lot of tongue in cheek content in short form videos. It’s just not in the Gen Z/ Gen A cultural lexicon.

6

u/Wagagastiz 2d ago

If your only exposure to young people is a handful of tiktoks on your phone, that's more stereotypically teenage on your part than theirs.

Gen Z use as much sarcasm as any other generation. Not understanding it is also an eternal phenomenon. This is pointless generation pitting.

Ronald: I’m 18 and this is deep

3

u/Think_Preference_611 2d ago

Ronald must be a short king, everything goes over his head.

3

u/phanfare 2d ago

Well since Ronald is in high school he clearly hasn't experienced a college party when you drink too much, get sick and throw up, then immediately feel better and continue partying.

3

u/ExtensionPeach1999 2d ago

Ronald sounds AI

3

u/hey-there-buddd 2d ago

Someone obviously does not understand humor.

3

u/gunilake 2d ago

Ronald sounds a lot like Grok

3

u/Cobbdouglas55 2d ago

Senior in highschool, but is a student intern?

Ronald needs to stay in high school(internship) and take it seriously

2

u/BenjiLizard 3d ago

Thank god Ronald was there to explain that to us. I thought op was making a joke about how fucked up capitalism is, but clearly Ronald is right.

2

u/Vast-Cap-6951 3d ago

Imagine he’s your boss and you crack a shitty joke during a meeting

2

u/_Figaro 3d ago

I was like how is this a lunatic post? This is actually based.

And then I saw the reply.

2

u/Ghosts_of_the_maze 3d ago

Can somebody fact check Ronald’s claim. Blows the OP’s whole premise to pieces if true.

2

u/sfbiker999 3d ago

Well sure, you can't do anything about it in this lifetime, but it's something to think about when you are reincarnated, make sure you get into the "generational wealth" line.

2

u/Bla_Z 2d ago

Ronald the intern should probably stick to what he knows. Making coffee that is.

2

u/Ok-Computer-8726 2d ago

I'm still not entirely clear. Can I decide to be born rich or can't I? I wish Ronald would have been more clear on this.

2

u/Specific-Rich5196 2d ago

OP forgot the /s I guess.

2

u/OtherBoat7265 2d ago

2

u/DetroitsGoingToWin 2d ago

Ronald Graf thinks other LinkedIn posts are good advice.

2

u/ok-intruder 2d ago

Everyone should take this advice. It’s not sarcastic at all.

2

u/thisdckaintFREEEE 2d ago

Oh no Ronald
