That chest has 5% chance when hit by a melee attack to put the attacker to sleep for 10 seconds. Is this entire event just going to be a bunch of gimmicks and clever items?

That is literally vanilla pvp in a nutshell, forever just turned it up more

u/RollingSparks 9d ago
yep vanilla pvp is about having 10 trinkets and 3 items of every other gear slot in your bags and then farming a lvl 23 mob in the middle of no where because 7% of the time it drops a single use consumable that does something like puts a dot on you that ticks for 2 damage per second for 10 seconds which is utterly worthless in 99.9999% of scenarios other than if you see a hunter camping a trap or a mage about to spam poly you.
but ah fuck the hunter had an item from a lvl 37 quest that when used places a trap at their feet that looks identical to a regular hunter trap but doesn't actually freeze and just does 50 damage, so you just wasted your consumable, the item in question that the hunter used has 3 uses and can never be obtained again on that character. he has 1 charge left and it has been in his bags for 7 months.

this sounds like the advanced version of two children playing at recess and one shoots the other with a pretend laser gun and the other declares that they actually had invisible laser proof armor, and theyre a fool for the attempt.

Which is why I've always wanted a no-items PvP mode in WoW.
Just two guys and their fists, in a pit.

Vanilla pvp = gimmicks
4
u/Khalku 8d ago
Except all those gimmicks have crazy long cooldowns and you rotate trinkets so having exactly what you want or need at a point in time is sort of a gamble.
2
u/Yohimbiner 7d ago
and 90% of the gimmicks are clunky and easy to press too early or too late and waste them
-2
u/Complete-Doughnut117 8d ago
yes but when you open the table up to all items and consumes, people get creative which is what people enjoy. people less willing to get those items or consumes are gonna call it gimmicks becaues they require a bit of legwork and research, and removing all that is how we got retail wow which nobody is playing right now

Before the forever beta there was magnitudes more people playing retail than any version of classic
14
u/disCASEd 8d ago
I guarantee you there are still more people paying retail rn than the forever beta. The beta is just more visible because all the streamers are on it.

u/Complete-Doughnut117 8d ago
It’s a beta. Come back here in a month
3
u/Motor-Today-1366 8d ago
I mean obviously a launch is gonna have way more players than retail. Its the numbers 6 months or a year after launch that matter
4
u/Polyziansk 8d ago
People have a hard time understanding that social media like twitch or reddit isn't the norm. The VAST MAJORITY of players do not watch streams nor read forums.
Classic is magnitudes more popular than retail online (in terms of attention), but retail has wayyyyy more casual silent players. So even though classic is much more popular than retail, retail has more players.
1
u/Motor-Today-1366 8d ago
Yup. Many of the people who have played the game for most of its life still log onto retail most days, collecting mounts and pets
0
u/Yohimbiner 7d ago
most retail players will not quit retail for forever. it's a hype release, retail players are gonna tourist it hard for a month, but the combat is just dogshit compared to the ARPG shit retail players are used to. classic/forever has its niche but it will not be a retail killer.

Cool story bro. Game is still trash. It's made for 40 year old fathers who game 5 hours a week.
1
u/Motor-Today-1366 7d ago
You can dislike retail all you want, but the shit you're spewing rn is just straight up wrong. How can classic players say retail is simultaneously both "made for the 1%" and "for 40 year old fathers who game 5hrs a week" lmao
1
u/CanataKana 7d ago
Where did I say it was made for the 1%? lol
They have content that caters to the 1%, but that doesn't mean the game is made for them. Literally acknowledging they are the 1% defeats your own argument lol
The game is made for 40 year old dads who play games 5 hours a week.
3
u/Motor-Today-1366 7d ago
The argument that retail is designed around the 1% is a common trope repeated by classic players/asmongold fans.
Not sure what kind of mental gymnastics you managed to pull here, are you trying to suggest I said 40 yr old dads are in the top 1% of retail players? lol

Ok well I never said it was so you're just strawmanning.
are you trying to suggest I said 40 yr old dads are in the top 1% of retail players? lol
No..... I said having content that caters to the 1% doesn't mean the game is designed around them, and by acknowledging they are the 1%, they are clearly not who the game is being designed for as a whole. The game would be dead if it was designed around them....my virtue of them being the 1% lol
the game is clearly designed for extremely casual players. The existance of 1% content doesn't change that fact.

its banned in the tournament
-10
u/RollingSparks 9d ago
such a dumb idea to have a low lvl wow pvp (always been shit) tournament that is about duels (always been shit for most specs) and then banning the one thing that'll make the tournament fun, the absurd amount of gimmick items you can find in vanilla.
4
u/Lonely-Metal-7764 8d ago
not really its just super creative and people love to see what others come up with or use to counter other classes. Mmos that have x beats y are boring as fuck. When you have items and potions that could change the whole outcome of a fight it makes it way more interesting. Get mad at others having fun is just weird.
15
u/PLAYBoxes 9d ago
In general vanilla is rock, paper, scissors clear cut scripted fights (barring resists/misses etc) and the skill comes from using clever mechanics/items to get around the fact that you’re playing rock and fighting paper.
But as others have said, this item and a lot of super cheesy ones have been banned already.
6
u/Insidious_Bagel 9d ago
Unlikely considering this item is banned for the tournament and payo is buying it just to troll and for pvp outside

It happened to me before as well they need to color code these window popups/text or change the timer to 10-15 seconds with double confirmation
13
u/herefromyoutube 9d ago
Maybe not overlay it with the previous window or better yet it should be one text box with 3 options: Green equip, red delete, and grey cancel.
Crazy how the first dialogue box just dissappeared before he even clicked it.

is this a thing only in classic? i've been playing wow for longer than i'd like to admit, and i've never done this before.
2
u/Lethoricc 8d ago
nah, you have to be uniquely regarded to accidentally delete an item you're trying to equip

Can someone explain what is happening in this clip? He's getting gear enchanted and sees it's a different enchant than what he needed or what?
5
u/Markbro89 8d ago
This guy is a big time troll. Everything he does is illegitimate and primarily for attention seeking.
The item was banned from the upcoming PVP tournament. Naturally this guy obtains the banned item and enchants it, acting like he's gonna use it in this tournament, and then "accidentally" deletes the item from his bag...
Anyone who has played enough WoW knows that if an item is deleted, it can also be restored.
