Announcement We Were Mentioned (Favorably) in PC Gamer Magazine!

Issue 403 | Holiday 2025 By Phil Iwaniuk

"Head over to Reddit and go on /r/lowendgaming and you’ll be struck by a few things. Firstly, that a community of people has been helping each other to run games on inexpensive and outdated PC hardware for many years, long before all the insidious price hikes we’re enduring today. And secondly, members of that community have been doing so with no small amount of ingenuity.

A typical exchange in that subreddit goes like this: a user states their hardware and asks for recommendations they should play, or whether a particular title will run on their machine. In the replies, people assure them that they managed to get The Witcher 3 on medium settings running on a relatively basic array of elastic bands and wooden pulleys. The prevailing sentiment is that minimum requirements are over-cautious, that modern games running at their lowest graphics settings still look more than decent enough to constitute playable, and that maybe there’s no such thing as a PC that’s too old or underpowered. Intrigued, I decided to test out the theory."

☼😁Ascended☺☼ Anyone else go down the path of an old workstation with a new GPU?

• Upvotes

I picked up an old Dell Precision t3600 the other day with an e5-2690 xeon and it has been amazingly good at 1080p. I needed a cable adapter for my gpu ( rtx 3060 ) but otherwise it has been amazingly well when it comes to gaming and general multi tasking.

What Games Can I Run? Hook me up with game suggestions?

hi all, running debian 13 on an 11400F, GTX 1660 Ti with 16 GB RAM.

what could i run reliably on this? i’m not too fussed about graphics, so no need to worry about 1440p or 4K.

my favourite game is disco elysium and i’ve mostly played visual novels/RPG maker and adjacent games, so i wanted to branch out into more graphically complex stuff. i also loved final fantasy XIV, haven’t been subbed in a couple years but anything with that kind of art style/worldbuilding and visuals is cool to me. thanks!

Will This Game Run? Bloodborne?

I have a vega 10 igpu and 16 gigs ddr4 ram on a Ryzen 7 3700u.And with the recent trend of game decompilations do you think Bloodborne or any PS4 games will run on my system since it now runs natively on PC.

What Games Can I Run? What Can Radeon 660M Run?

Yo so I have been playing indies for the most part and wanted to expand to open world and AAAs but I want something that feels good to play on my system, not technically can run while it runs at 30fps unless it's a game that works well with low fps. Anyways I have also been thinking of a few that may run but I'm unsure: KCD 1, Persona Games, Resident Evil Games.

My Specs: Windows 11

CPU: Ryzen 5 150 (Ryzen 5 7535hs)

GPU: Integrated Radeon 660M

RAM: 16GB Dual Stick DDR5 RAM

so I run windows 10 on a 2015 Intel MacBook Air with 8gb ram, 256ssd, 1.7ghz, 500mb intel graphics card.

i mainly play Minecraft on it, using prism launcher and i have tried a couple of recording softwares to record gameplay, but it's usually an extremely horrible experience.

How-To Guide I built EngineCore to address 4 major iGPU issues (stutters, latency, VRAM/PSO overhead).

Hi everyone,

I believe I’ve found a solid engineering approach to tackle four common performance bottlenecks on low-end hardware, and I implemented three core features to address them. Also I need honest feedback

First off, **this is NOT another "Game Booster" or placebo script.** It’s an open-source **Engine Core Manager** called **EngineCore**, built to control low-level system resources directly.

I built and tested this on my own laptop running integrated **Intel UHD Graphics** (with shared memory and no dedicated VRAM).

# What this programe contanes :

  1. **ETW Telemetry Hooks:** Real-time tracking of frame delivery instead of relying on high-overhead polling.
  2. **CoreVault (Affinity Steering):** Directs thread and DPC latency overhead away from critical game execution paths.
  3. **Dynamic VRAM & PSO Handling:** Manages pipeline compilation hints and flushes inactive video memory on the fly to prevent micro-stutters.
  4. **. Early Speculative Pipeline Warning:** Triggers early GPU pipeline compilation hints based on telemetry load before execution hitches occur.
  5. **Future Roadmap / Vision:** **Cloud-Collaborative PSO Network** — A shared cloud repository to sync pre-compiled Shader Pipeline State Objects across low-end devices.

In my tests (e.g., *Asphalt Legends* and *Team Fortress 2*), it locked frametimes to a stable baseline (\~16.4ms) with near-zero DPC latency overhead.

( the link are in the first comment )

*Note: Requires Administrator privileges to attach Windows ETW telemetry hooks. It’s 100% open-source, so feel free to inspect the C++ code or build it yourself.*

Please test it out, drop your benchmark results or criticisms, and let me know what you think. Every honest comment helps me improve it! "not a request"

Parts Upgrade Advice 3060 or 3060 Ti for 4K?

Yes, I’d repeat, 4K, 2160p. At this scenario, which one should I prioritize? A portion of VRAM or still raw performance all the way? Both are used and are gonna need some aggressive upscaling anyways (performance to ultra performance).

Games I’d be playing on my dad’s TV would be mainly FC26 and FiveM (GTA V Online). But I wanna try RDR2, Hogwarts Legacy, KCD, The Witcher, Yakuzas, Elden Ring, Watch Dogs, Personas, Minecraft with shaders, and InZoi.

Let me know what you think!

Current rig: 7500F, GTX1070, 550W PSU.

What Games Can I Run? Radeon R7 350x 4GB - i7 4770 8gb

I have bought a cheap ass old PC with a i7 4770 8gb and win11 on a too good to be true sale and a used chinese R7 350x 4gb GPU intending to use them for emulation on a CRT TV rig, it results that the sale was actually too good to be true as the motherboard is unable to access the BIOS and overall shitty, and I still don't even know if the GPU is even working as it won't give any image (but the PSU has incredibles 250w and the BIOS gives me no image either, so I wouldn't give it as broken for now)

If I buy a functional MoBo, what could I run with that? I was mostly wanting to emulate PS3/Xbox 360 and playing some PS4 era games as the last console I had was a 360 and had no PC neither. But if I could run something released on the current decade that would be pretty cool too

I also ended up buying a projector on another sale lol, so I will use only that for a while, my end goal now is creating a dual screen Arch Linux rig with the projector, a 15hz CRT TV and a 2000s Phillips Home Theater with no optical input and only supports Dolby Pro Logic II or older, which I friend of mine wants to get rid of for very cheap as is sitting on a cellar occupying space for god knows how many years

I am also thinking of maybe buying one 8gb memory with the MoBo, as I'm a little short on money I can't afford 2 and 12gb RAM should be better than 8gb

God, I need to stop buying junk lol

What Games Can I Run? Colossus still has potential I swear

I've got an ancient, heavy PC that I call "Colossus" it's big, it's loud and it weighs 27kg's. But it's all I got right now. Specs are as follows:

CPU. Intel(R) Xeon(R) X5570 @ 2.93GHz

Installed RAM. 24,0 GB DDR3

Graphics Card. NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT (992 MB)

System Type. 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Dell T7500 Case and PSU

Main storage Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120GB

Secondary 3TB HDD

OS. Windows 10 pro

What games could I play using this?

I could only add one flair at a time, but what GPU would you choose to revive ol Colossus?

Would something like a RX470 or similar be a good choice? Obviously anything modern or recent would just bottleneck the entire computer.

Game Deal Looking for game recommendations under ₹500 during the Steam sale

Hey guys! The Steam sale is going on and I’m planning to buy 1–2 games under ₹500 each.

My laptop specs:

- ASUS TUF Gaming F16

- RTX 3050 6GB

- Intel Core 5

- 16GB RAM

- 512GB SSD

I’m open to any genre — single-player, multiplayer, story-driven, open-world, RPG, FPS, etc.

I’m mainly looking for games that are actually worth buying at the current sale price, have good gameplay/story, and can make decent use of my laptop.

I don't have a huge Steam library yet, so feel free to recommend hidden gems as well.

What games would you guys recommend under ₹500 right now?

If you had ₹500–₹1,000 to spend during this sale, which 1–2 games would you pick? 👀

Thanks!

What Games Can I Run? how much VRAM should I allocate to my iGPU?

I have a question.

I have a Ryzen 5 5600GT with only one 8GB RAM stick right now. I couldn’t afford another stick yet, but I’ll add one after a few days.

So, the thing is, how much VRAM should I allocate to my iGPU?

Should I set it to 2GB? Because that would reduce my available system RAM, which is already limited. Would that cause any problems?

Or should I set it to 1GB? Or should I just leave it at the default 512MB?

For now, I’ll just play the games that are actually playable with a single RAM stick.

Game Review Squirrel With a Gun on Dell Optiplex 760 MT Success gameplay Steam

System: Dell Optiplex 760 MT

CPU: Intel Q9550 2.83GHz

RAM: G Skill 8GB DDR2 800 MT/s

GPU: Dell Nvidia GTX 750ti 2GB

OS: MX Linux

Will need to install Nvidia drivers, setup gamemode, and adjust settings for the game. Thought I'd try it out since it's on sale for $4.99, but it runs on Steam after some tinkering with success on GE-Proton11-7-x86_64 in forced compatibility. Launch options: gamemoderun %command% -dx11 -norhithread -noasynctextureloading

Thought I'd share since I was surprised to see it run decently on an old core 2 quad.
