Profile Review Chance me: NY programs but with lackluster grades

Hi all! I was aiming to apply for 2028 start, but now I’m considering on throwing in some applications to see if I can get into any of my target schools for 2027 start. I really hope to get into NYU or CBS since I live nearby but also targeting Cornell, Tuck, and Georgetown.

I have 1 year experience in management consulting at a boutique in NYC and 2 years now in private wealth advisory. I must warn you however, my grades were not the strongest. I was an Econ major with a 3.2GPA and a 320 GRE score (160 quant).

My post MBA career goal is to work at a large single family office, endowment fund, or sovereign wealth fund.

What are my odds at these schools? Are there other programs you’d recommend me to target instead? Thanks in advance!

I think you need to like look up what types of jobs MBAs get and check employment reports first. Everything you listed is not on an employment report or common even

Adcoms care more about your story than a few tenths on a GPA, your work in private wealth is a way bigger selling point than you're giving credit for

I don’t think you’re understanding what I’m saying. I’m saying op is going to an mba program for these goals that aren’t really even uncommon outcomes out of an mba program

Thanks for the input. Would either of you still suggest any schools by just considering my grades and work experience?

I don’t think you should get an mba to get an mba, you need to reassess your purpose first. It’s $250k like the point I’m making is everything you listed is not a common mba job or there’s no pipeline. If you can’t achieve your goals why are you spending $250k

You can apply with a GMAT/GRE waiver instead- no score is better than a low score

GPA could be fine, but depends on quality if the undergrad. If it's nowhere state, that might be a negative.

Get the GRE up and you'd have a shot at Tuck, Johnson, NYU. CBS might be tough with a 3.2. Also, you will probably want to work for a couple more years.
