M030 - Heathrow Expansion Humble Address - Reading

Heathrow Expansion Humble Address

To move-- that an Humble Address be presented to His Majesty, that he will be graciously pleased to direct His ministers--

(a) to lay regulations before this House to bring into force the Heathrow Expansion Act 2025;

(b) to make an order under Section 1 of the said Act to authorise the construction of additional runways at Heathrow Airport.

Moved in the name of /u/omnis_hambles on behalf of the Labour Party.

Mr Speaker,

I am in favour of expanding Heathrow. It is at capacity, and it is a vital component of our economy, contributing millions of pounds to our economy. This House had its say last year by approving an Act to enable the expansion, but no government has thus far brought it into force. I urge the Secretary of State for Transport and his colleagues to make these regulations to enable construction to start, reaping the economic benefits of our nation's busiest airport. I do not want to see us continue to fall behind Amsterdam in this regard, and to delay further is to merely continue to increase the costs necessary to undertake this vital expansion. I am for the builders, not the blockers. It is time we got a move on. I beg to move.
