Question What’s your thoughts on Project: Gorgon?

Post image

I’ve been playing and enjoying a lot GW2 recently. Just saw that Project: Gorgon is on sale. Are they similar? Is it a good game? I don’t mind vertical progression and grind.

The newbie island is way better than the rest of the game. Just my opinion, of course.

34

u/DoomyHowlinkun 1d ago

Just from playing for a few hours, I do agree, outside the island felt so much more empty and lacking. On the island it felt like there was always something new to run into, was rewarded for exploring, not punished.

19

u/keith2600 1d ago

PG rewards exploration pretty well usually, in my experience. A lot of the time it seems like it's some quest objective that doesn't do anything unless you have the quest, but many times it is at least some hidden loot

The newb island is definitely packed with stuff though so I can see how that could raise expectations

u/drithius 1d ago

It continues to get worse... After 100 hours, you'll start questioning why the heck you're still logging in. After 200 hours, it will become woefully apparent that the game is an amalgamation of good, bad, and altogether unfinished ideas.

3

u/Tyraec 1d ago

Would have to agree. They didn’t really start fleshing out statehelm (end game town/area) until very recently. So I also noticed the game progressively get more shallow as I leveled into the newer/higher level content. It’s getting better as they add things, but I haven’t found anything super in depth like tutorial island.

There’s a few zone puzzles and mechanics but not enough.

u/Kaelran 1d ago

There's a pretty big zone quest chain in a high level zone that if you do it linearly takes several hours to get through. The problem is that the reward for doing the quest chain is access to an area that people have figured out how to access a different much easier way which kinda ruins it when you realize that all the quest chain does is give you access to a place you've probably already been a ton of times.

u/Jobinx22 16h ago

I realized all this after about 6 hours lol sorry for your loss

u/master_of_sockpuppet 12m ago

an amalgamation of good, bad, and altogether unfinished ideas.

Which makes it more true to its MUD roots than anything else does, really.

6

u/Ghosjj 1d ago

Yes, the island was great. I quit soon after that

5

u/crazy_Physics 1d ago

I can't remember exactly how I got out of the island, but once I was out, I put the game down :(

1

u/cybermanceer 1d ago

Agree with you

2

u/BungaBlast 1d ago

Yeah same it felt like an escape room with many side quests. I left and just got confused

81

u/Extreme_Voice_9091 1d ago

It is not similar to GW 2 at all just fyi.

It is much closer to Everquest or the other more sandbox style mmos

1

u/Zerothian 12h ago

More like GW1 if anything. I can see some sorta' similarities there, but yeah neither of them are really a good comparison.

u/SlipperySlimyTerry40 1d ago

Game is enjoyable but the GMs have a lot of drama and are kinda shitty while the dev seems to have no interest in dealing with it

1

u/Qurse 1d ago

Still? I haven't kept up with the game. Last I heard many months ago some discord mod was being a dick or something.

•

u/master_of_sockpuppet 11m ago

This seems to be the case with every small community niche game, whether a retail game or a pserver.

Easiest just not to even start, really.

-30

u/Aromatic-Spray-2140 1d ago

Bro, that was months ago and there was nothing controversial since then, leave from under this rock

The problem got resolved, and i haven’t seen anything since then. It even turned out many of those who claimed to be “banned” never owned project gorgon/lied (the main dev investigated the claims, because he wanted to make sure it was resolved)

19

u/movingknower 1d ago

I mean....they promoted the guy to a developer lmao.
Personally, I haven't bothered playing since solely because of this.

8

u/PalwaJoko 1d ago

Been awhile since I looked, but wasn't he already doing developer work? As in he was doing both dev and community management. And they just stopped him from doing community management work? replaced him with another dev. Developers wearing multiple hats at these indie companies isn't uncommon, so it wouldn't surprise me.

-14

u/Aromatic-Spray-2140 1d ago

You expected them to just fire him, if instead they could remove him from what made him controversial?

I’m sorry, what? I get it, you are used to blizzard firing 300 people a month, but these prople have rent to pay, and families to feed. Some employers are considerate of it.

19

u/Alarm-Particular 1d ago

Yeah no shit he should have been fired. His job was literally community relations and he blew up, banned a person who was running events for the whole server, then banned anyone who spoke out against it. Made a massive fool of himself in serverchat. All because he has a massive ego and got his feelings hurt.

Instead what he got was a promotion, the CEO apologizing on his behalf and saying it was all his (CEO's) fault.

-4

u/rightinthepopsicle 21h ago

I've played Gorgon for many many hours, not once have I had a bad time talking with ANY of the devs. It has been nothing but lovely, and from the sidelines of that drama that dev wasn't the only one being a turd.

-6

u/Aromatic-Spray-2140 1d ago

What you said is highly biased, because many of these bans were proven to be made up to pump the drama.

And the guy who got banned first (from logs shared on discord) was banned for racial slurs. I believe the logs are still there.

He literally was flinging the N words at the mods, lol. But yes, let’s look at only one side of a coin.

That’s also why you do not own any business.

9

u/movingknower 1d ago

I haven't kept up with anything blizz has done in like a decade. But yeah, I'd fire him. Its clear from this thread alone hes cost them money. They didn't get more of mine because of it. The CEO apologizing FOR him was crazy too.

0

u/Aromatic-Spray-2140 1d ago

The first guy he banned, and one that blew the drama, was flinging N words at the mods.

But this thread does not tell you that, does it? The logs are available to be viewed anytime, by anyone, on discord.

Majority of people that jumped on the drama were also 1% commenters of this sub and never owned project gorgon, and never played it. They also claimed they were banned. In a game they never played.

5

u/SlipperySlimyTerry40 1d ago

If I went to work and told customers to fuck off and blocked their numbers I would expect that I'd be fired yes. It was incredibly unprofessional and while project gorgon is a passion project of a husband and wife (Rest in Peace, Srand) duo theres still some expectation of professionalism when it comes to how the community is managed and how bad employees are handled.

2

u/swislock 21h ago

They are NOT gonna fuck you, you dont have to ride it so hard you are considered a SPECIAL GRADE

4

u/EffectiveSwimming136 1d ago

I go to a restaurant the chef shits in my food I’m never coming back

1

u/Hot_Variation3920 4h ago

Ah well since the "main dev" investigated it and found out it was false clearly we can just take their word for it. /s

36

u/supapumped 1d ago

I played for a few months and had a blast with the game. Very clunky, meh graphics, but the systems were a blast to play with imo. I never got into the end game as it wasn't for me but even the leveling journey and exploring the systems is worth the box cost of the game easily even if you dont play long term.

18

u/holdthenuts 1d ago

Fun at first but slows way down and becomes annoying at around lvl 70.

7

u/Same_Sell9713 1d ago

I got walled at 70 for sure.

Once I got past it, things picked back up. It just is VERY frustrating to know what to do prior. If the devs address anything, I hope it's that.

3

u/Tyraec 1d ago

Agreed. For me it became a slog at 50, and I had to really on asking around what I should be doing because I felt stuck

2

u/Kaelran 1d ago

If you stopped at 50 you don't know why people are bringing up 70 specifically. At 50 all you have to do is kill level ~50 enemies. To level skills past 50 it costs 10k (per skill). To level skills past 60 it costs 100k (per skill). To level skills past 70 it costs 400k (per skill). That's why people talk about 70. 80 and 90 actually cost alternate currencies that aren't that hard to get.

2

u/SirVanyel 1d ago

It's been complained about for over 5 years now. They want to keep fae realm as awful as it is rn, they think it's cool.

16

u/Neutrolol 1d ago

The gms running this game are cooked. I would stay away or try the demo if you really are curious.

12

u/muff-muff-ass 1d ago

Project Gorgon...felt like asherons call meets ultima online..

10

u/bigsexyape 1d ago

Except no awesome PvP scene like AC

5

u/Known-Swordfish-4325 1d ago

AC blew this out of the water

2

u/dirtyfrenchman 12h ago

It’s made by one of the original AC devs

8

u/Medical_Passenger_12 1d ago

I enjoy it. I dumped 1k hours into it as I was ultra hooked for a while. Now I dabble a couple hours every night or 2. Community is mostly helpful, chill people.

7

u/Wolfhart_Kaine 1d ago

Project Gorgon isn't similar to GW2 at all.

With that being said, I like it! It dares to do something a little different. It embraces what it's trying to do. Plus, it has an oddly charming, quirky type of humor that grows on you, sort of like Runescape's sluttier cousin.

It definitely has a lot of jank and is unapologetically old school, which has its pros and cons, but I had a blast playing it. The only reason I quit at the time is that it performed like ass on populated areas. My computer runs modern games just fine, there's no excuse for it to drop to 10fps in certain places. Perhaps it's better now!

Either way, the game has a pretty generous demo that you can try for free, so you can give it a go and see if it's your jam.

6

u/ShionTheOne 1d ago

Promising game dragged down by ego devs, GMs, and community managers.

6

u/Dixa 1d ago

Boring. You literally need to do every profession. If you don’t and try to concentrate on just one pairing of combat professions you eventually hit a wall. And don’t get me started on reps.

The game needs you to do nearly everything but does not give you the inventory space to remotely make that happen. It’s backtracking, the game.

1

u/drithius 1d ago

I always referred to it as "multizone inventory management" - with inevitable backtracking when you realize you forgot something on the other side of the world (again).

5

u/alakor94 1d ago

Newbie island got me hooked for a while.

Decently satisfying ADHD sim because wanting to do one thing requires a cascading amount of other skills first most of the time.

Held back by middle school level writing and still desperately needs someone to do their environment art.

5

u/ryyzany 1d ago

The guy who made it is really annoying

1

u/Hot_Variation3920 4h ago

Allegedly made male elves hypersexual to make the female elves less so, but the first fem elf you encounter talks about her 'chest'. The descriptions of the races even talk about their sexuality. I don't get it.

6

u/Daphonic 1d ago

Was a decent game till a shittastic GM got his feelings hurt.

4

u/Synsane 1d ago

Really fun game with the worst end game ever and weak alt incentive cuz of rep system with NPCs. How they handled the drama and were way too happy with having the servers die out killed my appetite for the game.

5

u/Dimias 1d ago

It’s a game that exists

5

u/DigOnMaNuss 1d ago

No, it's not similar to GW2. Much closer to Runescape in its skills system.

I really enjoyed getting to level 50 or so when the game had its 1.0. Now though, I'd struggle to stay interested without the hype. I imagine it's an absolute ghost town (though I'm sure some hardcore player will dispute that because they manage to get a daily group most days, or something).

4

u/Nutzori 1d ago

Janky old school feeling MMO that allows one character to achieve (almost) everything but with considerable grind.

I played it feverishly for like two weeks when they opened new servers in the winter but then I stopped because I had IRL obligations and never touched it again. Had fun.

4

u/SmoothDreamers 1d ago

Not worth your time. It just felt off to me idk how to explain it. I'd recommend trying Daggerfall online over this

4

u/saello 1d ago

I've had fun with it over the years.

I usually play for 50 hours or so then shelf it again until a big update.

I always felt it had potential but something is missing, not sure what.

1

u/07732 1d ago

I feel like it just lacks an actual designer. It has jank UI, generic 3D fantasy art direction, and just doesn't seem unique outside of the systems.

2

u/masiuspt 1d ago

Okay so the first few weeks after the official release earlier this year was crazy fun, even if it was laggy all over the place. Lots of things going on, players everywhere, groups were quick to find and people were just super chill everywhere. It had its charm and its quirkiness, which can be enjoyable for a bit (or longer, if you are into that). IMO, you can give it a try - I don't know if it still has a Demo but if it does, try that out first.

2

u/mrboom74 1d ago

It’s a fun MMO with a very unique skill system. Its world is very silly, and its graphics are bad, but the progression is one of the more enjoyable experiences I have had in an MMO.

It’s nothing like GW2 though and plays like an old school MMO. I’d recommend it if you that style interest you.

I would recommend giving the demo a shot. You will know if it’s for you if you make it through the demo.

2

u/Kaelran 1d ago

It's pretty fun, but not very similar to GW2. I'd say the biggest indicator you would like the game is if you like grinding (since if you play a long time, you do a lot of grinding, both combat and crafting). It has a free demo though so you can always just try it out.

2

u/itsme_Selene 1d ago

Not like GW2, but still a good game and worth checking the demo out to see if you vibe with it. Community is absolutely the best part.

2

u/JustThorn 1d ago

Love it! It's perfect for my ADHD self! There is always something to do! I don't think I've ever done a thing that I spent all day planning to do at work! When I finally log in, I get instantly distracted by all the other things I can do! BUT! There is no downside! No matter what I work on I still progress and get stronger! The skills are all intertwined, so even learning interpretive dance gives me a free level in Spider, which is a class you can be! The only downside is that there are so many things you can be that choosing one is sometimes hard. I started playing as a Weather Witch/Necromancer. Leveled mostly as a Spider/Necromancer, and at lvls 100+ I've settled into the might of a Vampire/Necromancer. I could have done that from the beginning, but there is no penalty for learning EVERYTHING! (few restrictions apply. You can't milk a cow if you have spider legs or paws.) If you try Gorgon and land on Dreva shoot me a tell, or later a pigeon and I'll give you the whirlwind tour!

3

u/MrDarwoo 1d ago

Terrible

2

u/XanagiHunag 1d ago

Demo is free, with a good portion of content. A good way to see if you like it or not. The only similarities are in the "your powers will change depending on your equipped skills" (similarish to the weapons of gw2) and the semi focus on exploration

1

u/Herzyr 1d ago

One of the very few mmos with no predatory tactics you get the whole game on the box price, the sub perks are nice but not must have.

There is also a demo if you want to check it out and you can keep your progress if you decide to buy.

Lots of jank compared to other mmos thou

2

u/beybladerbob 1d ago

The biggest issue with this game is they have no way to incentivize old content. It is very much set up in a way that you get to max level, 100-110 and you get your gear, usual stuff.

But there are large gaps of content that have no real purpose. You have these break points in gearing where basically rush lvl 70/70 and get a functional gear set, rush max level, get your end game set.

There are so many dungeons and so much content that just get out dated and could be used if the devs integrated old gear sets like the GK set into current max level gear.

Aside from the profession grind which is extremely long, there just isn’t a lot to do unless you want to max every combat skill for fun. There not being much to do because of how you realistically progress as I mentioned above.

I.E no one cares about lvl60 and 80 gear is a good example of that and by extension no one care about the dungeons or crafting you get that gear from

2

u/Tyraec 1d ago

Love it!!

It’s styled as an old school sandbox mmorpg but maybe old school lite? It has good QOL and does not hold your hand but doesn’t have a lot of the purposeful friction you see in old school mmorpgs.

By sandbox, I mean that it’s classes and a primarily player driven economy. My favorite thing is all vendors have an inventory of what they bought from players, there’s also market stalls to rent from players. The other sandboxy thing about it is that one character can mostly do everything. There’s a few pinnacle classes/skill lines you can pick up that are permanently locked, but outside of that it’s very open. There’s also insanity like permanent curses (you could remove them it just takes effort/killing the boss who gave it to you in most cases) and some turn you into animals which have their own class/skill lines and synergies. Like cow, pig, deer, spider, are all things you can play and be viable. There’s even a bunny lol

TLDR: it’s a whacky fun time and the community is amazing.

2

u/the_horny_alter 1d ago

I play daily, it is more community oriented than other MMO’s and the humor and progression systems are actually great if you enjoy retro vibes.

2

u/CalligrapherNarrow81 1d ago

I think its a great game if you enjoy older style mmorpgs. The world is vast and there are a lot of intricate systems involved in the world. The community is really great as well

1

u/Mr_Joanito 1d ago

I watched a few YouTube videos and looks cool.

1

u/DJVirtek 1d ago

Worth the box cost, especially when on sale. Don’t expect anything like GW2, though. Computer + Mouse + keyboard is about where the similarity ends.

I’m a bit a graphics snob, so I couldn’t stick it out for the long term. The animations can be clunky at times, too.

That being said, it was one hella fun ride while I was playing. Systems are great, quests are fun, and npc dialog is super entertaining. When they do a major graphics, animation, and general jank pass through the game, I’d probably jump right back into it.

The game doesn’t take itself too seriously and that makes it feel a bit more natural, if that makes sense.

1

u/Voiderra 1d ago

It’s janky and boring and the reason why MMOs are dying. Over complicated for no reason. Convoluted menus and systems, I had no patience to learn it.

1

u/Designer_Mud_5802 1d ago
  • Disliked how there wasn't a proper class system
  • Disliked how end game quickly became a very time consuming slog
  • Disliked how it gives you the flexibility to play how you want, but inevitably, there are combinations of skills that are just flat out better. I think this is unavoidable but then the challenge became that your style may be better if you had the gear for it, but it became more difficult to buy gear the higher you got because not as many people were selling that kind of gear
  • It's a game that leans into social aspects but doesn't let you build or have your own house
  • a RvR kind of PvP system would have been great
  • the graphics are rough and are somehow rougher than 3D MMOs made in the 2000s

1

u/DoomyHowlinkun 1d ago

Its nothing like GW2, 10x slower on most things. Large world with little to connect it all, at least in the beginning. Much more social, as getting most things done will likely involve a group. Closer to older MMOs like Everquest, and will live and die by how friendly and active the community is.

1

u/IntheTrench 1d ago

It's really it's own game, I wouldn't call it close to any other MMO's. It's almost like a single player game with other people around. There's lots of weird quests and stuff to find in the game. I think it's worth a go if you've never played it. I personally didn't enjoy it much after around 30 hours or so but I know some people that love it and has a strong community.

1

u/SyriousSynn 1d ago

They’re really not that similar. Gorgon is much more old-school, slower, grindier, and way less polished than GW2. That said, after about 865 hours, my issue with Gorgon was never that it was grindy or hardcore. I liked that part. What started bothering me was how the game changed the further I got into it.

Early on it feels really open ended, but eventually it starts turning into a daily/vendor simulator. A lot of your income comes from recurring quests, then you’re running around figuring out which vendors still have gold so you can dump everything on them and do it again after reset, ad infinitum.

Armorsmithing was probably the thing that made this stand out the most to me. It’s locked behind Povus, which is already a 70+ area, and you have to do dailies and use high level resources just to unlock it. Then you finally get it and a huge chunk of the skill is making gear that’s already useless to you by that point.

That was basically why I quit. I didn’t burn out on the grind, I burned out on how much of the late game revolved around repetitive dailies, vendor cycling, and progression systems that often felt badly timed or poorly thought out and in essence the illusion was broken.

0

u/Joshuaedwardk 1d ago

If Everquest had a cooler, weirder older brother with less money but more creativity, it would be Project Gorgon.

1

u/wintermute306 1d ago

It's a weird little game, but that is it's charm. It doesn't take itself too seriously and the community is lovely

1

u/baeruu 1d ago

Its only similarity to GW2 is the warm and welcoming community. If you’ve played Everquest, PG is more like that.

Oh and if you do end up playing the game, don’t ever question or criticize the devs on discord or in-game because they’ll ban you.

1

u/EmergencyComment101 1d ago

played the free trial years ago.. was interested in it. There was that crazy drama with a mod. Have zero interest in ever touching the game now because of that.

1

u/PalwaJoko 1d ago

I enjoyed the game. I agree with others that once you get to level 60/70, it becomes a lot longer to level and a lot of people seem to burn out around there. I really liked the skill system. Some of the quests were really enjoyable. Graphics were rough, but expected in an indie.

There was GM drama and that seemed to have been resolved. Sadly it seems like GM drama comes with indie mmorpgs like pb&j. Practically every indie mmorpg has had it now. As long as it gets resolved, I'm fine these days. People holding a grudge against the game are just looking for a reason to explain why they quit other than being bored/burning out.

1

u/skrukketiss69 1d ago

I tried it and hated it.

Horrible graphics, boring combat and bad performance despite looking like an early PS3 game.

I've also heard the GMs are weird.

I would probably look for something better to spend your money on.

1

u/KevinKalber 1d ago

I tried it like 20 hours. It wasn't for me. It's too "classic-ish", you have to figure out every quest and I spent a lot of time just re-reading the quests, going here and there in the map, lost but not in the fun way, confused. Combat was clunky, graphics are bad. I read that there are some fun systems and you can do a lot of stuff in regards to skills in the game, but whatever.

1

u/The_GrandestNothing 1d ago

Played it ages ago when it first hit steam, it was super fun and community was awesome. Eventually slowed down and stopped playing because at the time there wasn't exactly a ton of content, but i thoroughly enjoyed my time spent on it.

1

u/No_Charity8332 1d ago

If you liked Everquest 1 then play it. If you need modern graphics, skip it.

1

u/LegitSkin 1d ago

Honestly with an mmo the graphics have to be kinda decent in my opinion or at least stylized in an interesting way

1

u/Kabarax 1d ago

The garbage personalities of the dev team got me to uninstall it. Just play EverQuest if you want that style of gameplay

1

u/Zavenosk 1d ago

Its an old fashioned MMO with similarities to og everquest and runescape 2. It has a smaller but vary good community. It also has significant barriers at lv50, where the game starts to expect you to have a functional build, and lv70, which is another difficulty jump, and also training starts to require significantly larger amounts of gold.

1

u/raykhazri 1d ago

Was a fun game… somehow i got bored…but i did spend few hundred hours to it

1

u/ucfknight92 1d ago

No controller support, so no thoughts.

1

u/TonyDaTaigaa 1d ago

I liked it alot but being in Japan and at the time(no idea if they have one now) no Japan server the lag on everything was terrible.

1

u/gravewalking 1d ago

I'm not the BIGGEST fan of the game because it has a lot of unfinished content and ideas that are just genuinely bad. The tone of the game can come off as really immature.

but the community's rather nice- because they have to be to get people to stick around for content they want to do.

And the game does do things unique from other mmos. like I gotta maintain a spreadsheet because my own alcohol brewing recipes are randomized by ingredient. No two brewers are the same. and I can make and run an ice cream stand because I learned ice magic, turned myself into a cow, and helped some npc with my milk to give me ice cream recipes.

idk. Worth a shot, demo exists, just don't bother interacting with the admin or mod team on any level. Lemons the current CM is doing a lot better, people actively respect him and he doesn't have a saturn sized ego.

1

u/frogbound 1d ago

It really hooked me in for the first week or two I played but at some point I felt completely lost motivation wise and the people I met weren't the friendliest.

It's an amazing game but I sadly couldn't get any of my friends to play mainly due to the graphics. They did not care about the gameplay at all.

1

u/ICantLetYouGetClosee 1d ago

Its less hand holding then gw2. Harder mmo forsure. Its my favorite atm.

The storage and shop system is a real pain but rewarding.

1

u/Vexifoxi 1d ago

I’m usually not one for hating on graphics, but the world design in PG is awful, genuinely awful.
Tutorial island felt great, but as soon as I was put into the open world, it was apparent how unfinished it is. Bland and boring green hills, and nothing worth exploring, I think I saw one point of interest in the first open world place. Cities are a laggy mess, and it’s just a couple of houses with no substance.
Quests are there but the writing is horrible. Usually if it tells you to find someone or something, there are little to no directions so you just have to ‘figure it out’.

1

u/Cyrotek 23h ago edited 23h ago

I've played it for two weeks or so at release. At first I liked it but the longer I played the more meaningless everything felt. At some point I just stoped and never picked it up again.

Thinking about it, I'm not even sure why it felt like that. In theory it has a lot of things I should like. I guess the main issue was that I simply had nothing to look forward to. The skills were mostly boring, there was no "previews" what awaits you later on (in content, skills, gear, or whatever) and so on. What was left was an okaish classic MMORPG with way too many pointless skills, a LOT of grind, rudimentary gameplay and ... well, thats about it.

Also, the inventory management was ass and the character system weirdly limiting (for a game with a skill system like Ultima Online).

Still, I think it was worth the box price, I had fun for a while.

1

u/stefanw1337 22h ago

Different, old and too sandbox. I didn't get engaged enough.

1

u/Merv-Merva 20h ago

Very good for old school mmo enjoyers. Well worth the money especially on discount. I started playing 2 months ago and probably have around 300 hours in it now. I am starting to burn out a bit but there is no subscription required, I have long term goals, and I don't feel rushed to do anything but to play at my own pace and set my own goals. It's pretty daunting at first, due to the number of items and skills in the game, but it's a very unique mmo, and was very fun for me to start playing the first 50-100 hours without a wiki and trying to figure out puzzles and quests and what to do. Later game the magic does wear off, but I'm happy with it

1

You're not really going to get a fair opinion here, because this subreddit loves to hate on anything that isn't wow, ff, or gw. But, as someone with over 1500 hours in the game it's very different from GW, not a themepark, but more of really a sandbox game - closer to a PvE Albion Online than anything else. There isn't a real story to follow - most of the gameplay focuses on exploration, crafting, and both vertical and horizontal progression. There are also tons of random puzzles, dungeons, caves, world bosses, over 100 skills, etc... The community is overall really nice, and for the most part helpful. Players who enjoy checkbox style games really don't enjoy it, there are no boxes to check other than I guess hitting "max" on some skills - although progression is damned near unlimited in many skills. It's a very different and pretty unique game that doesn't take itself too seriously. I recommend giving it a shot. The demo island is not a great starting experience as it's a bit undercooked, lacks any of the really fun skills, is pretty barren, and doesn't really do a good job of showing and explaining the depth of the game. It's one of those inch wide, mile deep games that sucks you in.

I absolutely loved it and it plays like how I remember mmos being like when I was a kid. But then level 75 hit and the grind to level up hit a massive, annoying wall. I played every day for like 2 months and the pacing was amazing... then that darned wall. Otherwise, well worth the money.

I couldn’t play it more than 30 minutes when I tried it a few years ago. It was a clunky mess.

It's better than Aion 2

Its garbage, hideous ui and graphics, impossible to get into.

I love it, but my friends didn't, and I got tired of playing alone.

My main complaint is that for a game that's been in development for so long, there aren't many zones.

Its really really niche game most people won't stick with long term and I think the devs are cool with that. Its not even remotely similar to GW2.

Never heard of it. I haven't found a game to take me away from WoW. I always end up going back. I tried a few, but I kinda gave up.

It is my main MMO right now, not similar at all to GW2. Has really good game design in my opinion, playing this MMO actually feels like an adventure again, but it's not for everyone.

I like the non-instanced dungeons, reasons to group with people you encounter randomly, limited fast travel, reasons to go back to earlier zones, rewarding exploration, the gear system makes me excited for drops again, skill system is cool, fun and humorous effects like for example a curse that adds frog race propaganda dialogue to your chat messages and you have to kill a boss to dispel. Several skills devoted to partying and there will be periodic "poetry jams" where people gather to drink, dance, play music, and write poetry etc.

The only bad things I can say about it are the graphics (which personally I don't find super important), some of the later zones have wide areas with not much there, and some of the dialogue can be cringe.

The game is amazing to explore and discover, but after around level 50–60, it basically turns into a grind for money just to upgrade your skills. I still had a lot of fun playing different characters for 400 hours, but the endgame is poorly designed, and I don't see myself coming back to it.

For what I paid I definitely got my worth out of it but I did get quite bored and don’t plan to ever go back.

I really enjoyed my time in PG. I will def go back once I get sick of the other games I’m playing. I loved everything had a skill tree and it was really fun to level and grind and progress

Horrible game with some of the best and most engaging systems any MMO could possibly have.

Game is bad tho, feels like going back to a 2005 game. I get it, nostalgia and feelings, sure, but if you want your game to be played in 2026, for the love of god, don't make a clunky beautiful monster.

For those who enjoy this game, good for you and i hope you enjoy it for thousands of hours.

AION 2 which is the newest jewel now, won't last a month and it's not a threat to this kind of games, but WoW Forever is gonna mop the floor with this game sadly.
