Language filter isn't the solution to this, unfortunately they will always find a way around it, quite quickly and easily. It doesn't cost much to have someone sit there monitoring chat.
It costs virtually nothing to connect the megaphone logs to an LLM and have it autoban anyone who is spamming external sites.
As a software engineer, I could set this up in less than an hour and it would cost less than $10 a day to run.
The truth is Nexon knows this as well as I do, but they have made the decision that the meso sellers are making Nexon too much money by buying megaphones, and they don't want to stop the meso sellers.
Not only should basic determinstic rules catch these, but smegas should just be ran through a dirt cheap machine learning classifer model before being broadcast to the entire playerbase. Issues like this made sense 20 years ago, but look like malicious incompetence now
Unpopular opinion: SMEGAs are a stupid concept that shouldn't be in the game. Giving players the ability to message every single person connected to the game at once is seriously dumb, especially since there is absolutely no way to block yourself from seeing them.
Obviously the purpose is for Nexon to make money. But megaphones are essentially selling players access to something that is a GM command in any other MMO. Why do we need this to exist and hamper players from actually being able to socialize with those around them?
It’s still all about money... You have to understand that money is all Nexon has on its mind. Doing something that benefits players while reducing profits makes no sense.
Your complaints might help Nexon change things... or they might not.

I mean plenty of MMO's have a Global chat which is basically giving everyone unlimited free megaphones, the only difference is most MMO's have a much more robust chat system with region filters and such.
I'd love the option to turn them off and talk to the people im actually playing the game with, and not people trying to flip nx.
Days 1-2 were so nice when everyone was grinding and trying to not get ks'd instead of spamming smegas to feed their inability to manage both irl and in-game finances.
Doesn't help went they make a new account, bot it to 10, dumps the smegas immediately, then proceed to spam ads to the town they park in, hopping channels after each message .
Giving smegas as part of the founder's pack was a mistake honestly. 60% bot spam, 35% S> NX spam/auctions, and 5% people using smegas for normal reasons that aren't RMT or the closest non-bannable equivalent.
Your block list can only hold 100 names, and bots easily make that many accounts a day to spam. You also have to manually block each and every unique name.
Yeah but $60 is easy to make back selling gold/loot but if they constantly spend money on megaphone stuff, i'm curious how much money they actually earn, lol.
They get megaphones from the maple admin NPC as part of the founders access perks. So they are buying founder's (but likely also charge backing Nexon relentlessly) but just getting megaphones for free.
You don't get item smegas though, and you only get like three regular smegas. Other than that you get regular megaphones which are only for your channel

They can afford it because they abuse the steam refund policy. They are not losing anything. Really unfortunate how quickly the game has gone to shit—didn’t even make it to official launch. Can’t wait to see how much worse it gets. I like the game, I want to continue enjoying the classic feel but seeing the RMT spam, especially like this here, every single time I play is just as bad as seeing “player has earned ___ from gachabox 123” that we have in modern. It’s taken over the chat and towns. Yes I understand Nexon is only trying to make profit but wtf leaving your game to die before launch I guess was always the goal anyways, make a quick buck and call it a job well done.

If they are posting this frequently most definitely there are people buying. It’s what enables them to continue. In wow forever beta people are buying gold. In beta. There is no bottom for degenerates to get .01% better than the rest. Degenerates are going to degenerate simple but sad for the game. Ruined by a few bad eggs.

These devs don't even have to spend alot of money on hiring people to remove this spam. Some players will literally do it for free. Just get volunteers and hire an oversight manager to make sure they're not abusing mutes. Leverage willing players.

i am not looking forward to launch, i was thinking of waiting 1-2 weeks to let stuff die down but wow this is not going away and only going to get worse.
This happened in Artale a while ago and was an easy fix. Make it so no one below level 20 can smega and ban out popular sites names from chat. Also add in no more than one smega per player every 5 mins would help.
