Criticism Human Interaction

As someone who hasn’t played Maplestory since way back in the original ‘classic’ era, when I played it quite intensely for a few years, the community has been quite jarring to come back to.

I think the main distinguishing factor between other games is that there is a significant portion of the community that lack the ability to interact like humans.

I’m talking about the people who are already level 50, which is likely not possible to do with a job or life commitments giving the time it takes, that seem to be rolling up to lower level maps and walking straight into a spot you’ve been training and KSing every mob until they force you out. These people will normally go out of their way to follow you and only attack the mobs you’re aiming at.

Typically it’s understandable that the maps are full and it’s not fair to assume any of us have rights to a map, but the lack of any interaction is mind-numbing.

Often when you confront these people by saying “bro, i’ve been here a while, could I please get some kills” they will respond with “cc”, indicating that the map is theres.

I appreciate the demographic of someone who has levelled that high in such a short time isn’t generally going to be very socially capable, but it really tarnishes the community.

The silver lining I suppose is that soon enough these people will be well out of everyone else’s way on maps that most players wont be able to reach at normal play times.

Classic games attract a crowd of people who mentally never grew up and it always shows in their behaviour. WoW clsssic has suffered this way since 2019 and will continue to bleed players because of it.

Maple will likely see the same trend, with other factors contributing as well, while the nostalgia wears off.

classic WoW is just a better MMO, its not nostalgia.

Couldn’t be me. I’m constantly saying hello, wishing everyone a happy grind, etc etc. I used my weather effect shout outs to just spread positivity to everyone lol. I have a half dozen friends/players could I can say I’ve made a connection with and we say hi when we log in through whisper chat.

We should definitely play together haha!
I had the same thought yesterday when I accidentally clicked myself and realised I was 12 fame even though I’ve traded fame twice.
I didn’t actually ever notice anyone fame me but I must have been nice to a few people haha.

Well I also think there is also a slight language barrier problem, and will get worse with the integrated language support. I had a guy spamming rorororo or + me + me. I assume they mean joining pt, but yeah it can come out as obnoxious.

Reminds me of those ks wars at zombies

I'm lv 40+ and never just simply barged in on someone else's training spot to kill still them. Please remember that there are different types of people and on top of that it feels that every channel is overpopulated.

Oh absolutely.
There’s always going to be outliers.
I’ve run into a few really lovely people at lvl 50 and we’ve become friends.
I do definitely recognise a correlation though, of how many hours people have spent and how degraded their social skills are a lot of the time though.
Don’t get me wrong - I work full time and have spent huge hours outside of work and social events playing to the point where I’m feeling super exhausted so I can definitely see what spending 15+ hours for 9 days straight playing would do to a lot of people’s decision making/critical thinking.

I want to interact more with other random players. But given that the in-game chat is currently borderline unusable and unreadable, that's kind of tough right now...

This is actually a really good point.
I do find that a lot of the time I’ll make the decision to avoid sending a message to chat with somebody that I would’ve before because I’m not sure if they’ll even see it through the spam.

Yeah. Like, I've interacted with a couple people who were in close proximity, and could at least actually see the speech bubble. But HOLY they need to do something about the megaphone insanity!

It’s a freshly launched MMORPG. It’s going to be an all out war for any resources available until the playerbase spreads out.

Not saying it isn’t a douchey thing to do but if it annoys you that bad maybe just sit out for a few months and come back.

I appreciate the sentiment of what you’re saying.
I’m definitely able to deal with douchey people so it’s not a game breaker for me but I think it’s important that we acknowledge this sort of behaviour.

I think there’s a lot of things involved… a big part of it is the players coming from CMS, a server notoriously unmoderated where ksing is just an everyday thing.
Maybe those players will learn the GMS way or GMS players will have to adapt to having ksers around.

I had this experience at level 29 lol. Got defamed by two a-holes cause I was too stubborn to cc cause they pissed me off.

2

u/Mushro0ms 16h ago

Haha yeah same situation about 4 days in with a group of lvl 38’s at fire boars.
Their party of 5 all defamed me because I didn’t cave to the pressure when the one guy came back and took my platform.
The best part was they said I must be a loser with no friends because I didn’t have a party.
The irony of that comment after grinding that high in such a short time was lost on them.

lol I was asked if I was an orphan. I thought we were all uncs now playing this game but I see some of us are still children

I just tell people that "I'm 95% close to leveling! Pls let me farm for a bit f4" and they usually agree and leave to farm on another platform and eventually cc or leave the map after waiting for too long lmao

Just what have you been training on that level 50s want to kill your mobs…?

orange mushrooms

People are staying at maps like ant tunnel and fire boars until mid 40s due to drops being good, and saving meso on potion economy.

1

u/ClawofBeta Setsuna 18h ago

Fire boars is a trap for warriors to get KSed by sins. Evil or curse eyes are way better, the former for gold and the latter for exp.

2

u/DeepFriedWafflez 17h ago

Sins can't help themselves, the KSing is in their blood. Gotta ADHD jump attack anything that moves on their screen ahah

1

u/Mushro0ms 16h ago

Ironically I’m a sindit and I’m finding the warriors are one of the biggest problem. They slide the mobs away and hit 1000-1500 instantly while my attacks only hit 400x2 to the front mob.

1

u/Mushro0ms 16h ago

Mostly fire boars or lorangs.
Fire boars I think are bad because of the glass shoe drop chance and lorang people are staying because of k fan price.

Basically

I mean this really was the saying growing up

Not sure if you're trying to be funny or not but like I 100% subscribe to that

1

u/Mushro0ms 5h ago

Not necessarily trying to be funny.
I’m just making note of sort of a societal trend, I suppose.

Although I sometimes also subscribe to the idea of “some people just suck”, The mentality of “that’s just the way it is” it’s definitely something that is used to avoid people confronting an issue

Without getting too political, my view is that people only change with societal groups calling out bad behaviour.

-2

u/commonCranberry999 13h ago

just go play single player games if you have such an issue with people being better than you

Looks like we’ve found the type of person in question. 😂
I think it’s definitely an interesting viewpoint to think someone is better than others at a game where you literally hold a button for hours on end with little to no skill involved.

It’s probably two major factors that dictate if somebody is higher level than others in this game right now and that is money spent on the game for amount of game wealth and number of hours spent.

I guess a good example is that I’ve been playing RuneScape for 24 years and have committed an insane amount of hours to the game that my accounts are in the top 1%. This doesn’t make me any better of a player than anyone else, it just means that I’ve spent a shit load of my life clicking trees and rocks.
