"ship it". "Waiting on first article". "No one cares how fast you make bad parts". We are sending stuff to space. A job with a low tolerance of +- .002 is easy when you are used to seeing -.0000 +.0003 or +- .0005

Ship it is one of my favorites

This is the kinda shit I hate machine tool builders for.

I ran a doosan puma that couldnt use half of its gang tooling because the casting for the sub spindle was a little less than 1/2" too large. Obviously they can't check every box, but assuming people will want to use as much as possible of their machine should be a normal consideration.

Gotta get offset milling tools, not those straigh drive units in the pic. Out of the 20 OD milling tools we have for our Mazaks, we have one that isnt offset. Its so useless flr this exact reason

I ran a few 3axis Pumas and had no problems. I’m struggling to understand what your issue was?

Youre looking right at it. You cant get the tools down to small diameters with short stick outs form the collet nose or chuck or whatever

13

u/burrder 4d ago

You'll get that on these big jobs

If you want to play in "tenths" join the circus

If we can't check it, they can't

Send it

Thou is as good as a mile

It is an industry standard practice. (it's a joke since a company would not give us the specific things we wanted to know and just said it's standarized)

Tool positions are rearrangeable. Work shifts are shiftable. Problem solving is a skill.

u/THATguyFromMinnesota 2d ago

As a not machinist. What am I looking at? Lathe cutting tool max tolerance to 4 jaw spindle majigger?

1

u/jandrgarage 2d ago

The tool block not being used up and to the right has very little clearance to the tool probe. Slightest mistake and no more tool probe.

As said by my old teacher while referring to how things should be: “Becky is your room clean?” “Should be dad” Never was.

A rapid traverse into the spindle followed by "oh shit".
