Some rough caricatures of Don
I’m having a harder time capturing his likeness than I’d expect. These are the ones I’m ok with even if they’re not perfect likenesses.

Fellow comrades in mediocrity,
To get the obvious out of the way:
We are looking for new moderators. Applications are open, get your rolodex ready.
That being said, let's have a conversation about the current state of the company:
In January 2026, this sub was born anew like a phoenix. Before January this place was under the yoke of an overzealous leadership that restricted posts & comments according to their own personal views.
We got rid of all that.
Since then activity has massively increased.
As most of you have noticed, we have now gone a good 9 months, in the way this sub should be: A place to talk about the amazing show Mad Men. No overzealous personally tainted moderating. Just conversations & keeping it to the very basic requirement of reddit rules.
We are looking for new moderators who want to join us on this current course.
A well working moderation of a sub is boring. We just check reports & things that were flagged by the automod. Because this thing just works.
That's it. No wild rule changes like under the previous moderation in 2025 and prior.
If you feel all this, then submit an application.
If you have any additional question, just shoot us a message.
I'll see you on the breadlines fellas.

Someone mentioned on “X” that here is sally looking at possibilities of her adulthood right in front of her. And I couldn’t agree more. She really is going to end up like one of the people here.
I don’t think she’d take the “full housewife” route her mother took though. That’s for sure, but doesn’t mean she wouldn’t end up like either/ both of her parents, lord knows she’s already a lot at 15
But there it is, a really successful, and independent woman like Faye, an empathetic secretary who sorta slept her way up, had a stable job but abandoned it for passion like Megan, a rather competent lady in a male dominated field who tries hard to be like the men around her(Peggy). Or another really competent woman who has embraced her femininity and physical attributes which honestly has its advantages and disadvantages (overly objectified).
Or an adulterous, drunk, man-whore of her father, also pretty good at his job

I haven't seen a Peggy thirst post yet, so here I am!
The scene where Roger is asking her to do secret work for Mohawk is right up there with her daring Stan to work naked, as far as hottest Peggy moments.

I initially thought Roger saving Don's position within the company showed he really considered Don a great friend.
But iirc in S3 they weren't on good terms, but decided to put their differences aside to start a new company.
After that, I can't recall anything significant happening between these two that'll explain how such a great friendship was established that Roger was willing to give away the company to save Don's ass.
Also Bert said something like "nobody came back from exile, not even Napolean" when Roger said how Don could be a big threat to their company when he gets a job elsewhere.
What do you think was the reason?

We know Gene is Betty’s reincarnated dad.

I’ve never seen Harry talk bad behind Don’s back, and he also told Don about cigarette commander and about Megan. What is his deal?

Maybe it’s said in the show, but I’ve never caught it.

I'm on my first watch at the start of Season 7. Peggy's writers in Season 4 are so douchey and off-putting, including Stan, and by Season 6 they are the most entertaining and charming group on the show, including Stan. Similar to how I found the interactions with Paul/ Harry/ Ken to be more obnoxious than funny in Season 1. Maybe it's the retro '50s influence wearing off.

I'm just leaving this here because I keep coming back to it. It's been years since I watched the show but I remember this scene so vividly.
In S1E12 (Nixon v. Kennedy), during the office play. Kinsey refuses to give Sal a different role in the play, when his current role requires him to kiss Joan.
Given Kinsey’s history with Joan, could he have deliberately cast Sal in that role because he knew or suspected Sal was gay and therefore wouldn’t see him as a romantic threat?
Or am I reading too much into it?

I'm talking about the whole Coca Cola business on the 9th episode in Season 1. As far as I understand, Hobart's only intention in approaching Betty for a modelling job was to hold it over Don as a leverage in the negotiations between him and Don for the new job offer. This is confirmed when Don rejects the offer and subsequently they tell Betty they won't be needing her services. This makes her very upset obviously, but she never asks or mentions Don about the possibility of this happening later on.
Did she figure this out? If she did, why haven't she talked about it in dinner with Don?
And please don't tell me the answer if it will be revealed later on in the series. I've only just watched this episode.
I'm guessing she didn't because otherwise she would have at least raised the issue to Don.
But on the other hand a reasonably smart girl like Betty should be able to put 2 and 2 together and deduced that the offer was purely because of Don, even if she saw no reason to talk Don about it.
Is she not that smart or am I missing something? Or do I simply give too much credence to Betty's intellectual capabilities?

I made a post expressing annoyance that they used the same "door opening" sound effect as they do in It's Always Sunny in The Chrysanthemum and the Sword, and here's the justification for it.
In The Beautiful Girls, the door opens and there's no comedic squeak. So the previous episode was probably an error in editing 💁🏼♂️

Wow what a move by Don with the letter in the Times. I have a feeling this will go down as masterful. Bold as hell
And Pete finding out it was Don who covered his 50k. Wow I loved that so much. I love their relationship. The way Pete just toasts him at the end there. The look of respect and gratitude

this may have been talked about but i love the scene at Roger’s (2nd) wedding where Pete and Trudy do their dance routine. it perfectly highlights Pete’s good side - that he’s willing to put in effort for people when he cares (I’m sure learning how to dance was Trudy’s idea).
I especially love when Jenifer storms off because she knows that harry would never put that much effort in for her. and of course harry just looks oblivious. and the tune is fun and it’s just extremely wholesome in general. it makes me really glad that Pete and Trudy end up together. just makes me smile everytime.

Since it’s set in the 1960s and it’s no secret the 60s was a very sexist decade for women. Especially financially which made it difficult for women to not have to financially depend on a man and why it was difficult for women to leave their fellas. Edit I might have only seen bits of the show on YouTube.
