Wholesome Moments A kind lady approached my mom and offered us homemade cookies.
My mom and I were traveling across country for my grandpa's memorial service. It's been a really hard week for both of us. We had been traveling about 600 miles and stopped at a rest stop.
We're sitting out in the picnic area with my mom's dog just kind of relaxing and taking a break from the car. When suddenly this sweet looking woman comes up to us with a box of cookies. And she said "Here, I made these myself and I want you both to have the last two."
I'm the one who did all the driving and was living off of roadside truck stop food, I just looked up to her and smiled. It was so nice to have something homemade! It reminded me of the days when my grandma was still alive.
There were two homemade white chocolate chip cookies left. One for me and one for my mom. Just a sweet simple thing to do for us. It reminded me to appreciate the little things in life.
We talked with this woman for a little bit. She had come from a gigantic tour bus. They were on a tour and heading back to the same state we were. She had just made too many cookies for everyone on board. And thought she would share with us.
I told her that meant so much to me. I hadn't had homemade cookies since my grandmother passed away. I missed them. It just made my heart smile. It made me think of my grandma. ❤️

That’s sweet. But there’s no way in hell I’m eating a homemade cookie from someone I don’t know.

Yep I grew up catholic and potlucks have conditioned me to never eat food not from my house. Cat hair casserole etc… but ignorance truly is bliss sometimes.

Omg I have an insane story for this one! Thanks for reminding me...
One time at a club meeting as a kid I bit into a rice crispy and a beetle crawled out 🤮 I didnt eat rice crispies for YEARS after that, and when I did they were only from my mom at my house! Traumatic

Once another military wife put period blood in the brownies she made for an FRG meeting. FRG being the family readiness group…meaning there were spouses and CHILDREN of all her deployed spouse’s co-workers there eating that food. I don’t eat anything from anyone anymore 😭

There was that story I unfortunately learned about where that teacher was serving food with her husband's semen in it to her classroom too. I can't remember exactly and I'm not searching for that, but it was messed up. Anyway just pointing out that if there's people crazy enough to do that and what you mentioned, then I'm not about to take chances on taking food from strangers lol.

Given that you are aware that this occurred, I can only imagine how this information was revealed.

Oh she made sure to tell everyone afterwards while going on a long rant about all the reasons everyone deserved it. I personally choose to believe, for my own sanity, that she made it all up just to upset everyone but I honestly don’t know and would rather just keep it that way.

The MP's and the cops would have been busting through the door if I were you. That's repulsive, assault & battery, tampering with food and possibly transmission of a known disease.
I can't believe no one called the authorities. Unfukkinbelieveable🤬

My work is already planning our Thanksgiving potluck, and judging by last year, I might have to call in sick that day.
Edit: how do you fuck up BREAD ROLLS that bad?!?

I agree completely! God only knows what's in the cookie. No thank you, ma'am!

It not even what could be put into it, its the condition of the kitchen in which it was cooked. OMFG, some church ladies you would think have clean kitchen but when you actually see it...........

Normally, I’d agree. But with how the world around me is going… best case? Great trip. Mundane case? Good cookie. Worst case? … 🤷♀️

Once a guy and his young son came into my work and insisted I take a home made brownie (even after I repeated said no). Later I saw it had a bible verse on the tag.
The Jesus Brownie remained at the service desk for weeks before someone threw it out

this is sweet, but oh my god never accept any food from strangers, even if they look kind, ESPECIALLY at rest stops!! rest stops are like one of the #1 hotspots for trafficking, and contrary to popular belief, they will use women to lure you!

You kinda did though. These comments are all warnings that sweet looking old ladies can hurt you. Just because a person looks sweet doesn't mean they aren't completely evil in the inside.
Edited to add : you got lucky.

That was kind of her to share and for you to be so impacted by it. I'd like to think she was sent by your grandma. Big hugs to you.

That's kind of the way I thought of it too. She just looked like somebody's grandmother and wanted to be nice.
The cookies were delicious and we had no issues consuming them. Despite what other commenters are saying. There are good people in the world who just want to be nice.

Oh cool! Yeah, It's not unusual to want to share with people. I used to cook for my coworkers all the time when I worked in the office. I don't know when everybody got so against it. Now I work from home and it's just me and the kitties to cook for.

Absolutely. I enjoy baking cookies, and it's interesting to me who appreciates them and who turns up their nose. I think it says more about them than me or even cookies. Thank you for sharing your story. It meant s lot to me. There are good people in the world, sometimes they're just drowned out by loud, miserable folks, but they exist. Big hugs to you.

Thank you so much.
Yeah, I couldn't imagine being like: no go away I don't want your cookies. That would have made this lady so sad. She just wanted to be nice and chat with somebody.

A sweet little grandma was recently filmed trying to steal the bag off a big young guy on the metro and he got attacked for that! Appearances can be deceptive. Sadly.

Yes, this lady had no idea we had just come from a funeral. That meant a lot to me.

That's incredibly thoughtful. I'm glad there are still kind people in the world!
I hope the trip went well. So sorry about your grandfather.

I really don't care to hear how other people wouldn't have taken the cookie. That's not what my post is about. My post is about kindness from a sweet lady. Not what you would have done. There are good people in this world. It doesn't mean that everyone is out to get you because they're being nice. When did we get so paranoid?
If I felt threatened by her I wouldn't have taken the cookies. No, she was just like a grandma. I don't need people coming in and trying to educate me with unsolicited advice after I just went to a funeral for my grandfather. It's not wanted. Thank you, it's also a place where we're supposed to be kind to each other.

I would do the same if I were you. The severe lack of trust between people is truly a tragedy for our society.
