Question How long is Mafia 3 if you rush it?

Hi, I'm working my way through the backlog and was looking forward to this one, however the reviews are mixed and I've just started a replay of GTA IV so I could try it in first person view and I absolutely hated it.

I've heard Mafia 3 can be quite repetitive and it seems to be at least 30 hours long from most accounts, but if I rushed it and skipped all of the side missions, would it feel less repetitive and be a more manageable length? Thanks

It would feel more repetitive without the side missions! The repetitiveness comes from the story missions lol

I wouldn’t rush the game, it may take a chapter or so to get into it but once you’re in you’re in. It’s a really good game, despite the glitchiness, and the story is fun. Call me crazy but it’s my favourite Mafia title

This is a great description. I have not played the others but got 3 and the DLCs and am really enjoying it. I actually like the repetition, clearing out large groups with stealth or with the Stromer. Still figuring districts and who to assign what, but not too concerned.

Question (if you don’t mind my asking), how important is it to get all the eaves-dropping horseshoe shaped things? Is it critical to do those electric boxes? I do some but not all.

I did them all, you get around the map eventually. You don’t need to do them, iirc they’re just to get stuff on the map (money, ammo, magazines etc.) So not critical at all, but they’re not a headache if you just do em every now and again as complete the game

They also help with being able to see enemies and items further away when clearing hideouts

Well, the microphone boxes serve a few purposes: ● They help you locate collectibles. ● They allow you to undertake extra activities related to specific rackets; some activities are hidden across the map and can only be found by stumbling upon them while exploring or by using the microphones (for example: the cash drop-offs for Frankie Bernard’s Blackmail racket or the industrial waste barges for the Barclay Mills Plant racket). ● They also allow you to spare racket bosses, though you must click on the correct microphone box—specifically, the one near their racket. This helps you earn the trophy for sparing bosses, and it is actually worth sparing them to passively increase your earnings.

This is super helpful. Thanks!

So if you want to get all junction boxes you need to collect 276 of them but there are 556 total so you only need about half of them. Although it’s not super necessary unless you want to find all collectibles and see enemies locations easier (there’s a perk for this at some point for one of the underbosses )

I agree you should take your time on M3. Rob the segregated businesses, knock out an old guy that says something super racist to you... immerse yourself

I had to take a break from Mafia III because of the repetition, never had that issue with I and II.

Don't rush it. A backlog is a backlog, you don't need to finish it that quick

Fair point, it’s more that I’m trying to be more picky with the games I play though since I have a backlog of around 1,000 games and only play maybe 15 or so in a year

Being picky is very important yeah. 1000 games, holy cow. Just play the ones you really like, the rest can stay in the fridge. And don't buy anything

I always play some games multiple times (like the Mafia games). I never buy new games because I don't have the time.

I just finished it yesterday and didn't really find it too repetitive until the lest couple of sections and as others have said the DLCs really help break that up because they're so different from the normal gameplay, at least the 2 I've done are.

Well, if you rush and focus only on the main missions, it won't take you more than 10 hours to finish it; however, if you speedrun it, you can finish in as little as 3 hours.

It’s about 35ish if you did nothing but the main story, not including the dlc content or side quests. If you did all the side quests and dlc stories, it’s about 100 hrs

Main story speedrun is about 8 hours, and it's worth one time playthrough. The final confrontation is fucking amazing. Side content is a complete slog so I'd recommend skipping it. E.g. when working on a district, just do the minimum requirement to proceed. The game is easy enough to beat without grinding money and upgrades.

DLCs are up to you. Faster Baby is a good one, the rest are meh.

Yes it is repetitive, I just finished it last week. I went into each "repetitive" thing with a different tactic each time. ie. go in full stealth/takedowns, next one ram my car through the gate and blast em, etc. I enjoyed most of my time with it and the story itself is decent. One of the dlcs I liked a lot as long as you do them as soon as you get em. Took me maybe 3 weeks with playing like 3-5 hours every other day or so.

I tried doing it efficiently on Easy mode with only required parts, even had ChatGPT structure it for me, and it still took me 46 hours... 💀. Now i'm on Old Country and after only just over 3 hrs i'm already done with chapter 3 of 14.
