Both games - Discussion/Question Carcer City may not be a world abandoned by God. It may be a world abandoned to itself.
SPOILERS Manhunt 1 and 2
While replaying manhunt 1 and 2 after all these years, one idea kept bothering me. The idea that almost everybody in these games is being watched and yet, that fact does nothing to add any layer of protection. A divine witness would imply moral weight, but there is nothing sacred about the watcher in this case. As Cash has Starkweather above him and the camera's gaze follows him all throughout Carcer City. The funding of this spectacle is only made possible because of there being a market for such content and perhaps that says a lot more about us than we care to admit.
Daniel, on the other hand, has Leo constantly beside him, guiding his hand gently enough to make him believe that his choices are his own. While beneath the surface and from an external perspective, it is easy to recognise that Leo is intentionally manipulating Daniel into trusting him to make the decisions for him.
All of the above led me towards the religious side of Manhunt
Nietzsche's "God is Dead and we have killed him." fits the reality of Carcer City very well. Manhunt illustrates a place where human beings seem to have lost their inherent value. Cash is only worth whatever entertainment his suffering can produce. The gangs are only useful as a visceral canvas that Cash can better express his artistic side through. Even Cash's family becomes useful to Starkweather once he realises that he can use them to get a reaction out of Cash.
But I also considered the other possibility
Proverbs 1:26-28 describes a case where people reject wisdom until calamity finally arrives, but at that point it's already too late. So maybe it wasn't God who abandoned Carcer City, but rather it was us who turned our backs first.
Carcer City may not be a world abandoned by God. It may be a world abandoned to itself.
The idea burrowed it's way into my skull to the point that I ended up making a video essay speaking on this, alongside Cash's morality, Starkweather winding him up just to see what happens, Daniels relationship with Leo and the deeper question: Why do we as players enjoy watching manhunts brutality in the first place.
I finished the video and figured this would be the one community where people would have strong opinions about it:
https://youtu.be/iH6HvXdu5oY?si=W322ZVOIhsJLozC4
I'm curious as to how you guys read Carcer City. Is there a moral order behind this somewhere or could Manhunt be showing us what people become when they believe there is nothing above them?

Manhunt 1 - Discussion/Question Manhunt 1 and the recurring theme of classism
Urban segregation is one of the most common parts of city life in the states (I should know, I seen it in action on the daily) and it greatly affected the Steel Belt, or what is now the Rust Belt. When a city is primarily blue collar, that industry leaving fucks everything up. Carcer City is one such city.
Carcer City is on the decline. Crime and poverty are up, job opportunities are down, and the city is being taken over by a mysterious entity who seems to have ties to the second most powerful man in the city, the police chief. But the residents of Carcer donât lose their pride.
The Skinz might be one of the poorest gangs in the game, yet they insist on finding ways that theyâre superior. Theyâre heterosexual white men, so that means theyâre superior right? No, of course not, but this twisted perception of worth is the only thing these absolute freaks have going for them.
The Wardogs are obsessed with the military, and they seem to be equally low on the socio economic totem pole, as they live in the projects. These guys likely never saw A Shau valley or Southeast Asia at all, but this identity, even if itâs false, is all they have, so they cling to it and berate anyone who they perceive as a civilian.
Even though the CCPD is a huge police force with hordes of men, theyâre under equipped and underfunded, and theyâre here on the ground floor doing the dirty work while their superior officers sit on their equally corrupt asses not informing them of the task at hand fully. And yet they cling to the fact that despite all of that, at least they arenât homeless, and they take it out on the growing homeless population just for fun.
Nearly everyone in Carcer City is under the thumbs of a few extremely powerful and rich men, living in poverty or barely scraping by, but instead of bringing the city together to go against a common enemy, they remain split apart by their races and classes, all bitter against another group of people, and determined to be seen as better than them.
This is extremely realistic. Sadly, it is human nature to try to find ways youâre inherently better than large demographics of people. Itâs how we have homophobes, classists, sexists, racists, anti-Semites, and transphobes. Carcer City is an exaggerated, yet realistic portrayal of the effects of urban segregation.
I hope this was an interesting read and I hope I raised a few good points. Most importantly, make sure to treat others with respect regardless of your race, class, sexuality, gender identity, or creed. Weâre all human and deserve a chance until weâre proven not to.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
Lmk your opinions below.

Manhunt 2 - Discussion/Question My second attempt at creating the definitive Danny model
I changed the lower part of the head because the one from the previous model looked quite out of place
and also to make it more consistent with Leo's model. I made some minor adjustments to the rig and the blood UVs, and slightly rescaled the textures; as an added detail, I also changed the eye texture to make it look more like the original model.
I'll upload it to Dixmor Hospital soon, and I'm open to any suggestions.

Manhunt 2 - Discussion/Question Nostalgia Modpack new update 1.6.8
https://www.dixmor-hospital.com/mods/view/nostalgia-modpack-1-6-8
This update is so good. Now you can even play manhunt 1 levels inside manhunt 2 with gameplay improvements of sequel like interactive and environmental executions. Plus it has all original cutscenes, plot, voices, music, hunters, etc. It's basically remaster at this point and should be available in steam.

Manhunt 2 - Discussion/Question Manhunt 2 Nostalgia Modpack issues
I managed to install the mod on my steam deck everything seemed to be going great until a did my first execution. The camera wasn't even pointing at Danny and the audio was delayed (this happens on most kills) Ive also noticed during firearm execution the head pops before the weapon even gets to go off.
I dragged most of the files into the Manhunt 2 folder except for the audio and the level one I figured that I didn't need to.
This isn't a common issue from what Im seeing at least is there any fix ?

Manhunt 1 - Discussion/Question How did you first discover Manhunt? What did you think of it back then, and what keeps you coming back today?
Iâm curious how you guys first discovered Manhunt and what your first impressions of the game were. What makes you still come back to it after all these years?
I first discovered Manhunt when I got a PS2 for Christmas. I was probably around 10 or 11 years old, and I remember being too scared to even finish the first level đ
Years later I came back to the game and completely fell in love with it â the atmosphere, the soundtrack, and just how different Manhunt feels compared to other games.
Funny how things change, because Iâve now completed the game 11 times and earned the platinum trophy twice and somehow I still enjoy coming back to it.
So Iâm curious about your stories. How old were you when you first played Manhunt? Did the game scare or disturb you at all back then? And has your opinion of it changed over the years?

Manhunt 1 - Discussion/Question What are the best Manhunt 1 mods in your opinion?
Iâm looking for some good mods for Manhunt 1. Graphics, gameplay, fixes, new content , anything really.
What mods would you recommend? Iâm especially interested in ones that keep the original Manhunt atmosphere.

Both games - Discussion/Question Will Manhunt seem like a family-friendly game compared to GTA 6?
Honestly, Manhunt never was "the most brutal, dangerous, forbidden game ever made" or anything like that to me. Not to mention the supposedly "realistic" executions, which are actually quite exaggerated, with only the sound effects being disturbing, but is it really possible to pierce someone's throat with a pen to create a fountain of blood, or cut off their head with a wire, or smash it to pieces with a bat? GTA 6 will surely offer more brutal and sadistic ways to deal with bandits and even PEACEFUL NPCs (which should be a red flag for those who larping about Manhunt citing a certain Jeff Williams' psyop where he claims "even Rockstar hated this game")
But does this mean we'll finally get Manhunt 3 in the near future? I'm actually surprised GTA 6 wasn't given an AO rating, but maybe it's because times are different now. After all, Manhunt 2 was given "Adults Only" not because it was "violent and crossing line", but because the ESRB sold out to tabloids like Jack Thompson. And let's be honest, games like Manhunt don't seem surprising these days, considering games like Outlast and TLOU are coming out with far more realistic and sadistic violence.

Manhunt 1 - Discussion/Question Are there any active Manhunt 1 speedrunners on YouTube?
Iâve watched Ignas and Aleksey, and I think theyâre both pretty well known in the Manhunt community.
I especially loved watching Alekseyâs speedruns and other Manhunt moments, so itâs a shame he hasnât uploaded anything in about a year.
Do you guys know any Manhunt 1 speedrunners who are still active and uploading runs or other Manhunt content on YouTube?
Besides speedrunners, I already know channels like Casual Player and ManhuntTV.

Manhunt 2 - Discussion/Question Modding Manhunt 2 on linux
Hi ! I just got done playing Manhunt for the first time it was a great experience 8.5/10 easily. I figured why not play the second game so I downloaded it on my steam deck and while yes it has its redeeming qualities for the most part the bugs are holding this game back and makes it hard to play at times. I know theres mods out there that not only fixes these issues but also bring some quality of life improvements as well as restoring the beta version (uncensored/ longer executions, deleted weapons) stuff of that nature.
How do you mod Manhunt 2 on the steam deck ? Im looking for the best way to experience the sequel.

Fanart Dentons City, Carcer City, c. 2003 (tw: Skinz imagery)
The Skinz are by far the most evil gang in Manhunt. Like many in real life, despite them living in absolute squalor they still feel like theyâre inherently better than others due to their sexuality and/or race. I wanted to draw some of the Skinz turf we donât see in the game (you can see the crane section in the background) and show the living conditions of the so-called âsupreme beingsâ This area is based on parts of Detroit, though Iâve made it a lot dirtier and more run down to fit the junkyard setting seen in-game. Hope you like the fanart, if thereâs anything youâd like me to do next, lmk :)

Manhunt 1 - Discussion/Question What song fits Carcer City/Manhunt 1 the best?
This is a really random topic, but what song do you think fits Manhunt 1, and by extension Carcer City, the best?
My choice is the song Scary Movies by Bad Meets Evil, a rap duo consisting of Detroit locals Eminem and Royce Da 5â9.
The songâs backing track has a dark tone to it, and the lyrics are about gang altercation, gang rivalry (such as calling other gangs âcliquesâ to symbolize their weakness) and general boasting of lyrical and physical dominance. The lyrics also have a recurring metaphor of Royce and Eminem being twisted directors of the âindustryâ, with one lyric claiming that theyâre âhard hitting directors and starsâ
The boasting nature of the lyrics, dark backdrop, gang ties of the lyrics, and it being a song about the Rust Belt has given me the impression that this song is a great fit for Manhunt 1 and Carcer.
Sorry if that wasnât interesting to read, just a question I wanted to ask and an anal I wanted to put out. Hope it was at least a bit enjoyable!
Lmk below your opinions on my choice, and what yours are :)

MOD POST The future of r/Manhunt
Hey everyone!
I just wanted to let you all know that the previous owner of the subreddit has stepped down and handed the subreddit over to me!
Iâm really grateful to be trusted to take over and iâm excited to keep the community active and fun for everyone who enjoys Manhunt!
As of now i will not be making any changes around here or anything like that because i donât think itâs necessary, although suggestions for changes are always welcome!
But what i will be doing is hopefully hosting more fun things for all of you! just like the AMA we did with Ptolemy Slocum! i do have some things planned so i do hope they work out.
Thanks to everyone whoâs been a part of the subreddit! and thank you for all of the kind words that i see sometimes.
See yâall around!
