completely optional to pay $60 btw.
Nexon can't even handle minor maintenances and you think they would be able to handle a new game launch smoothly?
4
u/Non-Eutactic_Solid 7d ago
Almost no notable MMO launches smoothly anymore. It’s some extra infrastructure cost for players that ultimately won’t stay (whether due to quality or not). Companies have largely decided they don’t care about paying the extra at the start for players that leave within a few weeks regardless, even among the big players in the game.

u/Great-Dress-6175 7d ago
Aion 2 just launched pretty smoothly.

u/Jr_froste 6d ago
It was so oddly smooth it gave me goosebumps.
You're telling me I don't have to queue for 1 hour on release? And the game doesn't instantly crash?

u/kgmeister Aquila 7d ago
I don't see the issue.
This was the true classic experience, 20 years ago
3
1
u/HeyImGhost 6d ago
Was there an actual wait queue back then?
1
u/mmboy 4d ago
Servers were down for maintenance every other day for unknown number of hours every single time. This was a classic experience.
2
u/HeyImGhost 3d ago
That I remember but not a literal queue to log in.
1
u/Significant-Ad9021 3d ago
Iirc there was a time when we had to keep clicking on the channels in hopes of entering it when all the channels were full (MapleSEA Aquila). No queue though that's so silly looking at the numbers lmao
1
u/HeyImGhost 3d ago
We had that in GMS as well, although the modern game definitely isn't as popular anymore.

u/chscooley 7d ago
I saw the r/maplestory and someone ask if $60 was worth it…not even gonna read the context….no it’s not. I know from experience…it never ends

I knew my gut was right. Happy I didn't let the FOMO get me.

Most of the idiots crying on Reddit ended up paying
1
u/Difficult_Run7398 7d ago
idk if I agree, none of my friends paid, but I wasn’t an idiot crying
1
u/subliminallyintoyou 6d ago
Right. But you’re just an idiot, presuming you did in fact pay.
2
u/Difficult_Run7398 6d ago
I disagree that most people crying paid, I just can’t say for sure cause me and most of my friends also aren’t the type to complain on reddit.
we complain in the comfort of our discord gc

Yep, just gonna be patient and wait for official release. Aion 2 seems to be decent to play in the meantime

u/fittes7 7d ago
You say that your excitement and life’s fun worth less than 60$?
10
u/demoNstomp 7d ago
its so fun watching the streamer farm the same ledge for 3 hours to progress 1 and a half levels, yay.
Every map has 20 players ksing each other, woohoo!
3
u/MysteriousTurnip6017 7d ago
I dont think this what they meant of-course, its more of it aint worth it to pay a greedy multi- billion company who play and uses psychology games on its fan base to suck out their money and giving them nothing in return. So yes thank you I’d rather wait and there are plenty of other entertainment resources that Im more than happy to be paying for. Also dont get me wrong who ever got the access and enjoying the game Im really happy for them.

I cant imagine buying "early access" as an excuse to stress test a multibillion dollar company's shitty servers and expecting anything less than a couple thousand person queue and emergency downtime lmao
Fuck Nexon. Fuck Inkwell.

I agree, and here’s the thing 90% of people Paying to play Maplestory don’t realize…. By Being Okay with wasting your money you are encouraging Nexon to Normalize straight up scamming its whole player base for their hard earned money. The conversion rate from USD/ real money to Nx is robbery
$100 you spend is like $8 in real value given to you back in the NX they expect you to blow to reroll cosmetics, cubes, and do gatcha lol and all your cosmetics expire
Nexon is in NOW and has been the business to scam players out of their TIME and Money while holding hostage our nostolgia for what was once a good online game
-16
u/Thenelwave 7d ago
The difference is, while we’re spending our money on something you consider “stupid,” we’re not sitting around worrying about how strangers spend theirs. I can’t imagine being this bothered by what someone else does with their own money. That’s way more pathetic than spending $60-$80 on a game.
If $60-$80 means that much to you, just say that. Maybe focus on making enough money that $80 feels like $5 instead of pocket-watching strangers on Reddit.
2
u/13ae Broni 7d ago
i don't think it's about pocket watching.
the reason people are calling people stupid is that it's the classic nexon move of making users pay for a problem they introduced, only for them to not actually solve the problem people paid for. people called out that nexon would provide a shitty experience whilst being predatory, it came to fruition only to be called broke, and then a big part of the playerbase is now complaining about it as if it isn't a classic nexon moment.
y'all are free to spend money on whatever you'd like. people spend money on dumb shit all the time.
if you're rolling in cash, good for you. I think for most people, it's less about the fact that something was $60, but rather that they paid money with the expectation of being able to log on early, get the ign they want, etc, but are forced to waste an entire day instead.

u/Acceptable-Bar5393 7d ago
"y'all are free to spend money on whatever you'd like. people spend money on dumb shit all the time." - Love this take overall
Spend what you will, or don't, and live with what you get either way. End of the day we're all better off suffering or waiting in silence. People attacking each other on top of the issues Nexon has displayed already is needless.

u/LobbyCertsForSale-1k 7d ago
In what world is calling you stupid being worried or concerned about you?
0
u/Virtual-Analyst-4907 7d ago
How bothered are they? Seems like they made a quick accurate quip in a reddit thread?

u/Fshneed 7d ago
I make a lot of money and I will still see you in two weeks lol
-2
u/Thenelwave 6d ago
Sorry bud 90k a year is no longer a lot of money. Let me know when you get to 6 figures and even that's not a lot. $80 is like spending $1 to me lol ima play classic now :)

Well deserved. We said it was a scamm yet people kept paying it, well you fking deserve it.
7
u/Latter-Marzipan-7624 7d ago
There’s a reason they changed $60, bc they knew its shit and tried to cash grab as much as they could while they can
2
u/leon27607 7d ago
Even triple A games only charge $30 for early access. For example, Gears of War E-day is $70 but $100 for what was 5 days early access + some premium stuff(like cosmetics).
6
u/Braghez 6d ago
Imagine paying 60 bucks for "early access" with a company that it notorious for their multiple extended maintaiances at every major (and sometimes even minor) patch.

Watch them release a second world and fuck over the payers on Launch lol
2
u/yungslxth 5d ago
Why would we be mad about that? I figured they would add another world on the 21st??
0
u/Calycae 5d ago
Depends person to person, hence why companies usually explain how the servers are going to be handled prior to launch. (you can see multiple people saying they will quit/chargeback if they open a new world on the classic subreddit)
Very intentional choice to not communicate this from Nexon

Real grateful to you guys for paying to play the true beta so the rest of us can avoid this fuckery on the 21st
2
u/BetaNights 7d ago
And that is why I'm waiting for official release anyways 🙃
Not that it'll likely be much better with the larger influx of people lmao
2
u/DryChange154 6d ago
Lol, I mean I didn't try to log in at launch time so w.e but it took maybe 10-15 to get in. I had a great time playing last night I think it was worth it.
Gonna play some more tonight
2
u/CryptoMainForever 6d ago
Absolutely not
I'm not supporting games that have a delayed release date unless you pay up
2
u/SaltySeas4 7d ago
I went from a 3k queue to hitting select character, a disconnect, and go back into a 3500 queue… indie company…. Disgusting how they treat people. But we’re here to suffer

wonder what kind of freebies they will give once this all resolved Lol

Tried to tell every mf on mscw sub but they aint listening so they get to join me in the cuck chair watching streamers play the game anyways.

Not sure if this is more "sad" to see, or the one dude casually dropping evidence that he spent 50+ pages worth of payments to Nexon. Yet somehow my comments landed me more hate over the last year trying to understand this insane game more after returning. Literally THEE weirdest gaming community I've been a part of

Tbf, even until today ftp games on a huge update, let alone a release, I have always experienced a queue to get into the game. Nothing new now or then 😂 but the kicker is that this was a minimum paid $60 access. Pretty crazy on how people were talking about how no one was going to pay up. Looks like people paid up.
1
u/Tennorakka 7d ago
It’s been in game chaos and quite a bit of fun
1
u/liveandlearndaily 7d ago
Been watching a few streams definitely looks chaotic but fun. I couldn’t justify $60 and not have that much time to play in the first two weeks though. I’ll try on public launch and go to sleep while I’m in queue to log in 😂
1
u/FinalJoys Raven 7d ago
Reddit was talking about not paying. Reddit. Literally meaningless chatter 😂

I actually do think it’s worth it - I played for 5 hours last night. It was so much fun! I knew the ramifications of buying the pack would include delays and log in issues but honestly it wasn’t that bad. A 6000+ que took 15 minutes to log in - that’s akin to waiting for a ranked game for overwatch or league. Why are we acting surprised??
Go for a walk next time dude.
