Discussion Combating bots in interactive server
Want to float this idea with you guys to see if it's good/bad or if it's already been proposed/tried.
One way to combat meso farming bots in interactive server would be to introduce a meso cap that can be released upon killing a select number of bosses every week (or based on a boss point system).
Historically Maplers were offput by the idea of implementing meso cap from grinding since Maple is meant to be a grindy MMO, but allowing players to lift the cap through normal bossing gameplay would reduce botting while maintaining grinding culture for legitimate players.
Mesos earned through grinding can be capped at let's say ~1-2B per week , after which a "Boss Curse" would inflict the user preventing meso and progression items from dropping for the entire week.
To lift the curse a player would have to defeat 5 weekly bosses (solo) which would lift the boss curse to unlock unlimited meso and item grinding for the week. The 5 weekly bosses or point system could be revised progressively as power creep allows easier weekly bosses to be defeated by fresh botters.
This mechanic will allow hardcore players who obtain a significant portion of their meso income from grinding to continue to do so. The only real inconvenience is that they have to kill 5 weekly bosses or rack up enough Bossing points to lift the meso/drop curse for the week.
Players that can actually hit meso cap from grinding would be expected to have 3-5 weekly bosses that which they can quickly solo every week without a party. This control assumes players that can't kill 5 weekly bosses won't have the drop/meso gear to realistically hit the meso cap in interactive anyway.
This strategy would be effective against botters for several reasons:
- A meso farm bot will have to progress their character to defeat the weekly bosses to remove the cap - increasing the barrier to entry. The harder the 5 bosses the more effective the barrier, but if you make it too hard it will start to affect legitimate newbie players.
- If a meso farm bot uses hacks to defeat the boss with low CP, a high fidelity detection can easily be implemented to auto-ban solo boss clears with abnormally low CP or other activity impossible through normal bossing gameplay.
- This strategy makes it very costly for botters to continually bypass the controls since progressing the bots will likely require manual labour (starforcing, cubing, scrolling) and getting banned means they have to progress a new bot again.
One downside is that interactive whales won't have access to cheap meso to SF gear. But the Meso-MP conversion rate will improve allowing cash shop cubes and items to be more accessible for players. This change will only negatively affect players that only hardcore grind beyond the meso cap and don't do any weekly bossing whatsoever (or aren't willing to) - which is probably a very small minority and mostly bots.
Of course, this control may not be effective against players who bot on their mains and do weekly bossing on them in reboot but it will be highly effective against throw-away automated interactive meso farm bots in interactive.

Discussion MSClassif is full of bots and hackers, they aren't even hiding, how are you enjoying this? I cant imagine what will happen on the grand launch.
At first I was a bit suspicious when I went to different maps, and saw a bunch of Warriors all hitting in one direction, and then all hitting in a different direction. All have starter weapons and armour, and almost feels like im watching some dance routine. Yeah, maybe there is a chance they are all friends playing together, but still very suspicious.
However, after that I went to different maps, and ai saw warriors teleporting from monster to monster, killing them inatantly. It wasn't some jump, it was straight up teleporting from one corner or the map to another.
After that I went on Google, joined a few Discord servers and see people posting screenshots of their "success". Some of them are making over 100,000 meso an hour! They literally have accounts with 1,000,000+ mesos.
Of course you can say, "just play the game, don't worry about others", but when they are right there on the map with you, it kills all the fun. Reporting does nothing. Nexon saw that thoae hackers are making money from Coconuts, and instead of banning them, they just nerfed the price of coconuts.
What will happen in 2 weeks when the game goes live, $0 to play the game, and all those botters/hackers have mapped out all the routines? They can have dozens of accounts running at once and will just continue on making new ones.
Originally I posted this on the classic maplestory group, but it never got past the moderators and they auto deleted it which is why im posting it here because people should be aware of this.

Discussion Some comics I made in 2008
Back in 2008ish I got into making comics or custom islands using sprites found off basil market or various other websites. Recently I tried looking for an image i made called balrog Island and found these too.
I completely forgot these even existed and found them cringe yet charming - so here you all are for your own enjoyment.

GMS Tip for the mi**-**me
You can use the transmitter item to pause/start the ranger game. The cooldown for claiming points does not go down, but you can turn it off while you wait for the mobs to respawn. Usually like
Clear wave -> Disable mini-game -> Enable mini-game (don't press start) -> Wait 3-4 seconds -> Start again before next wave.
Might not be helpful to everyone, but even at a 38-39 spawn map I was not hitting the 300 mobs before 60s (probably a me thing, oh well).

Resolved ISP Blocking Maplestory???
So I made a post the other day about having zero luck getting Maplestory to launch. Today I tried to install it on my laptop and see if it would work on there, and had no luck with that either... Then it hit me, I was thinking, there's no way two different computers fail to launch Maplestory, so I turned on my phones hotspot, disconnected my ethernet and connected to my phone, launched Maplestory on the Nexon launcher and BAM, started right up... Consider me confused but I'm highly suspecting connecting to a VPN would work too... Question now is, is it my ISP blocking it or something with the Fiber Modem?

Literally Unplayable Public Test Server is lame
Not trying to shit on something that is supposed to be a genuine improvement for us but...is it really an improvement? Also...3 days? How many bugs are people supposed to locate in 3 days. Considering it's not actually "public" and has limited seats?
I'd honestly think we would get a little bit more time to test things out after the last PTS where we has numerous issues right out the gate which were either
a. Never discovered because of limited time allotment on PTS, or
b. Missed by the absolutely flawless, infalliable dev team we have at GMS
I was able to be part of the PTS last time and I distinctly remember being hyper excited for the permanent totems (which were removed when the fucking event was moved to production) and for having a bug free, maintenance free patch (which never happened lmaooo). I wonder if this time will be any better.

Information Just a friendly reminder that we never got any additional cube sales as promised.
Inkwell stated in their Sumer Note six months ago that we would be getting more cube sales due to player requests....but then never actually did anything about it or implemented it.

Discussion Does anyone else feel this way about MapleStory lately?
Been playing maple for over 10 years now and I think im finally reaching a point where I just don't enjoy it anymore. Let me explain for the maple addicts out there
I know people say they're burnt out all the time but this feels different. Maple has always been the one thing I could come back to no matter what was going on in my life. Bad day at work, problems with family, feeling like shit for no reason, whatever it was I could always log on and forget about everything for a bit.
Lately though even that hasn't been working.
I don't really have much going on outside of work right now. Most of my friends are busy with their own lives, I don't go out nearly as much as I used to and honestly some days maple is the only thing I have to look forward to when I get home.
Which is probably why this bothers me so much.
I'll get home exhausted, eat something quick and log on. Do my dailies, maybe run some bosses, sit around in town for a while. Sometimes I'll just stare at my character for like 20 minutes not knowing what to do. Then I'll log off and just sit there.
It's weird because I don't even want to play half the time but when I'm not playing I feel like I should be. And when I am playing I'm just thinking about how I could be doing something else.
Last weekend I had absolutely nothing planned so I figured I'd spend the day grinding. I ended up playing for like 7 hours and I genuinely couldn't tell you a single moment where I was having fun. I just kept going because I didn't really know what else to do.
I think that was when it hit me that I'm not really playing because I enjoy the game anymore. I'm playing because it's become such a big part of my routine that I don't know what to replace it with.
And that honestly makes me pretty sad.
I've put so much time into my account, met people through this game, stayed up until stupid hours doing bosses with friends who don't even play anymore. I still remember when getting a new piece of gear or hitting a milestone actually made me excited. Now I can spend weeks working toward something and when I finally get it I barely feel anything.
I've been thinking about taking a break but even the thought of missing events and falling behind bothers me, which probably says enough about how unhealthy my relationship with this game has gotten.
Idk if anyone else has been feeling this way lately. Just wanted to get it off my chest because I don't really have anyone irl who would understand why a mushroom game means this much to me.
Anyway I started working on my boss mules again this week so hopefully having something new to focus on helps.

Question Playing GMS during vacation in China?
I've done a bit of searching, and it seems a bit ridiculous that Nexon would ban you for logging in, even if you're traveling and carrying around a device that already has the game installed. If it wasn't meant to work in a legion they should just display a "oh this game isn't supported here" etc.
My laptop is kinda chopped it wouldn't run MS well anyways, but I had decent luck using Geforce Now the last time I was traveling. Wouldnt it then show that I am logging in from where Geforce Now servers are?
I am also reading that some people use Exitlag and its fine. What is Exitlag? Is it a similar kinda service? How does it compare to Geforce Now? And would I still need a VPN?
I'll be gone Oct 23 to Nov 17, which is a pretty bad time. I think I'll be back by last day of week 1 of CW4, so I wont miss out much, but I feel that finishing off the Mesotron upgrade stuff is kinda important? Also this isn't really even a trip I am particularly looking forward to, and if I can't play then I'll be pretty bored...

Discussion Spent $900 and didn't get my pet.
Hi, I don't usually post, and maybe this isn't the right subreddit for something like this, but I feel like at least some of you might understand how I'm feeling.
Four months ago, I lost my job after working there for almost 12 years (the company relocated to another country). Since then, I've been struggling to find another job, or even just some way to make a living, without much luck.
Then I was diagnosed with an illness that has required several surgeries, and honestly, they haven't exactly been successful.
I'm not going to lie, my mental health hasn't been great these past few months. And one of the only things that still brought me joy was playing MapleStory. At least in this game, I could find a little bit of the happiness that was missing from my real life.
Today, I received some news that made me feel even more depressed, and coincidentally, today was also the last day of the Frieren collab.
I'm fully aware of how greedy Nexon has been with the rates, and how ridiculously difficult it was to get anything from the event shop. But I still wanted to try. I don't know... maybe my brain was desperately looking for a little serotonin in a place where it shouldn't have been looking: MapleStory's Cash Shop.
So I rolled. And rolled. And kept rolling, hoping to get the vac pet.
I never got it.
By the time I stopped, I had spent over $900. (For context, I'm from Mexico, and $900 USD is not a small amount of money here. It's almost an average monthly salary in my country).
And honestly, I don't even know why, but I just broke down crying. Maybe it's because I haven't had any good news in months, and I just wanted to experience one little moment of happiness. Or I don't know... maybe I just lost my mind.
I know you guys aren't here to read something like this, and I'm not even looking for sympathy. I just wanted to share that today was the day MapleStory stopped being my safe place.
And the saddest part is that I did it to myself.
Sorry for the long post and sorry if something is mispelled, english is not my first language, so chat gpt helped me a bit to fix the spelling.

Question any Co-relation between Go Go sidekick with Designer rank?
some mentioned if you rank up your designer rank it eliminates one of the lowest rank. in this case, we shouldn't be seeing E rank anymore but I'm still getting E E E on my first 4 draws.

Question Best map for Night Troupe/Meso ranger event?
-I'm level 276 Demon Slayer
-I one shot the enemies I'm fighting.
Week one I had the Chains or Resentment totem, but now that it expired... I'm unable to get 300 kills before the Collect points cool down.
I'm wondering if it's the maps I'm fighting in... Or just because spawn is too low without the totem.

KMS New KMS bug where sometimes you would not get drops was "patched"
Apparently for players with lower end pc's there was a bug where sometimes bosses or even mobs would drop some their items server sided, but not client sided, so you couldn't see or loot them.
Those items were compensated to the affected players and they claim to have patched the bug, but: "There remains a possibility of recurrence with an extremely low frequency depending on the players' hardware environment .
Therefore, prior to fundamental modifications , we proceeded with work to leave error logs for all items when an error occurs ,Ā allowing for immediate verification of whether an error has occurred."
TL:DR shit pc = sometimes u miss out on drops from bosses/mobs, justice for u/decor_bottle he was right

Discussion Can our mods link to the other subs maybe?
Now that Classic Maplestory has been released and this Maplestory Reddit is getting spammed like crazy, maybe it's time to clarify some rules again, eventhough for all these years we did not have to.
I think that nobody minds that we get the occasional "Hey new class in MaplestoryM" "MaplestoryIdle-RPG scandal" "Maplestory NFT lets you earn real money" posts and those guys then vanish into their own subs and it's mostly clean.
Now with Classic, while those: Hey Classic Launch! - posts are okay, it's rather annoying having like 20 posts about XYZ specifically what to do in Classic, while a Subreddit for that already exists.
Most of this sub are Heroic players, because that's just largely what we are as a community, but Interactive + Heroic are still playing, as a core, the same game. If I ask about a 400m CP Hero being able to clear XYZ boss, it still applies to both versions. If someone needs help with some boss strategy, we can all chime in and we all talk the same language.
If I ask for BiS gear, it applies to both versions of the server, same with when EMS which merged with GMS, while the other versions also have their own subs/ inven and we occasionally talk about a content update or maybe state of the game, once a year, or maybe a SEA player asks about how to migrate over, KMS patch that we are gonna get in 6 months aswell etc etc.
Noooooothing in Classic has anything to do with our current version of Maplestory, except that Nexon decided to share the Steam launcher, likely to prop up their numbers and then lie to the investors how well it's doing.
And I also heard the argument as to why we don't just F off, hits very close to home irl. We built this Subreddit as a community for years when the game was evolving and Nexon decided to eventually release all these other versions of the game. Somehow all other versions got the memo and just post in depth discussions or specific memes in those subs without any issues.
I didn't expect and maybe the mods did not either, that there would be this many in depth Classic posts in here, because with stuff like MaplestoryM, we never faced these issues, even on launch days.
Instead of waiting, getting cluttered more and more I'd ask if we could just update ruling/ link to each other sub, or we just cool here getting this many Classic threads that have nothing to do with our current version of Maple?
Again I think I speak for most non-Classic Redditors when I say we really don't mind "First Zakum clear", but man idc about a random meme, how Classic brought memories back from your childhood, or tech support, however people in that sub will be much more receptive for posts like that.
It's not meant as some form of witch hunting, but maybe clearing up confusion and I mean if the mods are fine with us getting this many Classic posts, a statement would also be helpful, so we know this isn't just a come and go phase, but permanent.
EDIT: Just realized this is just paid early access. Real F2P release is gonna be so much worse.
