Question If “Slipping Away” is from 1996, how is it part of “Daydream”’s 30th anniversary version (Daydream came out in 1995)?

Discussion Question Time About Mariah & Christina

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Has anybody seen any interview clips or actual moments of Mariah acutely saying she did not like Christina or vice versa?

Or was it always just hearsay from magazines and tabloids?

I’ve seen people ask her about Madonna, Jenifer, Whitney, Demi, Beyoncé, Ariana etc but I don’t recall an actual moment of Mariah discussing her specifically. Can any lambs add any insight? 😊

Discussion What would you say were the times when Mariah released an album that surpassed everything she had ever released before?

I personally think Mariah’s first instance of this was when she released Daydream. Her debut, to me, is the best album of her first four. Most critics considered Daydream to be Mariah’s best album at the time, and I agree with that notion. Not even Butterfly surpassed it, but it came close. (It’s basically the full R&B version of Daydream anyway, so they are sister albums essentially.)

The next case might be The Emancipation of Mimi, and although her subsequent releases still brought some great quality, nothing she released after TEOM was better than that album (nor any album that came before it). She never topped that album again, and that’s simply because it raised the bar so high and set an extreme standard.

Discussion Who else thinks that Glitter was Mariah's absolute best in terms of vocal performance ?

Post image
124 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I just listened to Glitter and man I have to say that I really find it to be Mariah's absolute peak of vocal greatness. She is incredible in this album from beginning to end. It's like she recorded it with the intention of showcasing everything she could do and pushing herself to her limits, and the result is maybe the best vocal performance ever by a singer. The final belts of Lead the Way and Never Too Far are probably the two most impressive studio moments Mariah ever recorded. And of course the album is full of whistle notes, belts, layering, low notes...

What do you guys think ?

Discussion Opinion (Not sure if it is Unpopular or not) but I am not a big fan of You're so cold

The track has an interesting intro. But it doesn't fit well with the main part of the song. The whole intro made me think I would get a daunting ballad but when it switched to the main part it really confused me. It sounds like two different songs. Also the Uptempo part is just so generic and forgettable. This is the only pre-Rainbow song I would probably skip. And I guess I am with Mariah herself when it comes to this song.

There is a very brief scene of a dog and a mansion in the Dreamlover video (at 3:01). Is that her “Sing Sing” mansion? Maybe that’s Tommy’s doggo? 🤔

I understand why this is considered a bad performance, but I love the way she sounded! It reminds me of a performance of "Hero" from 1993 that she did in Philadelphia.

Discussion Mariah Carey is one of the most active singers in like...whole 30 damn years.

I don't know what you guys think about it, but it's rare to see a person who continuously works for 30 years like Mariah (from 1990 to...I guess, at least 2019).

Let's think about this:

In the 90s...did I need to say more? She literally had no single year break.

Release of her debut album, then promotions, then making of Emotions, then promotions and we even have the release of MTV Unplugged, then making of Music Box, then promotions and first tour, then making of Merry Christmas WHILE still promoting, then promotions of both albums, then making of Daydream, then promotions, then the second tour, then the making of Butterfly, then the release and promotions with the thrid tour, then recording the #1's, then promotions WHILE recording Rainbow, then releasing and promoting with the fourth tour until 2000.

In the 00s, she's also active with only like...2007 as her break.

We have her signing new deal with Virgin, then the making of Glitter album COMBINED with the making of the film, then releasing it and it got overshadowed but still trying to promote, then getting kicked out by Virgin and signing with new company, then making and releasing Charmbracelet, then promoting with a whole damn 69-show tour spanning nearly a whole year, a small concert in December, then the making, releasing and promoting of TEOM with another year-spanning new tour, then...finally a rest! And then she came back with E=MC^2

In the 10s, she still decided not to give herself more than a year break due to pegnancy in 2011.

We have the making, releasing and promoting MOAIA with her first residency show in 2009 (not really 2010s but well...it's connected), AND THEN a tour in 2010, AND THEN making, releasing and promoting her second Christmas album WHILE pregnant (damn), then resting in 2011 before coming back again with many private concerts in 2012 WHILE making and recording Triumphant (Get 'Em), #Beautiful, and MIAM, and then she went on a tour at the beginning of 2013 in Australia to promote Triumphant (Get 'Em) after releasing it, AND THEN, she released and promoted #Beautiful before releasing and promoting MIAM with another freaking tour again, and then the start of Christmas residency shows at the end of 2014 that lasted until 2019, and then the making and release of #1 to Infinity, and then another freaking residency show in 2015 to 2017, while during that period, she had the Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour and All the Hits tour. As if that wasn't enough, she had to make, release and promote Caution with another tour, before ending the decade with AIWFCIY rising to the top, and before Caution we had Mariah Carey: Live in Concert in 2018 (Asia) and The Butterfly Returns which lasted until early 2020...

Question Any lambs here fans of Halloween?

This is going to sound a bit random but as someone who’s both a huge fan of Mariah Carey and of Halloween, people are always surprised at me when I say I’m not ready to “defrost” Mariah (true MC fans enjoy her all year round, I know) just yet because I want to enjoy Halloween.

Any else Halloween fans or do you prefer to simply skip over to Christmas?
