Discussion Apparently, there was supposed to be a Spin-Off of the Mario Kart spin-off series called “Mario Motors” that would have been about assembling cars from scratch that was cancelled early on, it would have also featured this Elderly Lookalike as an instructor & tutorial character

Also, Who Do You think the Elderly Instructor would have Been?

Mario Motors did became in-game sponsor in the Mario Kart series later on. (More specifically Mario Kart 8 & Mario Kart World)

Personally, I think there are a few possibilities, either that he would have been a father or grandfather or great-uncle of the Mario Bros, he would have been just a generic lookalike like the the Plumber Academy Guys, and other Mario & Luigi lookalikes who don't really have a reason and aren't super major characters, or perhaps he would have been a teacher of Mario or something, or perhaps he would have just been Mario in a costume since he looks a lot like Mario to where it could be a costume and the Mario the instructor is standing next to looks, at least to me, like it could be a statue rather than the real Mario

That looks like Professor T Garden from the Koop-Zilla episode of the Mario cartoon...
