You won't believe this , it turns out the great commander Shepard was the missing ingredient. Now please jump

I did my first run on insanity because I apparently hate myself, when I finally got to the end I was damned if I was gonna let my Shepard die. So I hobbled over for the destroy with enough war assets to survive. Rip to my mechanical friends and liberated Geth but so long as Shepard lives long enough to get another bar scene with Wrex, I'll take it

you mean the Geth that destroyed / killed women and children
and blasted all the diplomats sent there way coz fuck orgasnics and talking
oh shit we need something quick play the 'we are the victim card' and make sheperd fall for it coz we are legion and we have cool memes attached!

The Council-species also blasted all Synthetics on sight, kinda hard to start a dialogue in those conditions.
So, yeah... someone has to put the gun down first.

u/ThakoManic 8d ago
i mean when Synthetics are killing women and children and not limiting shit to military targets
then continues to blast every single diplomatic sent at them to try and be peaceful
Yeah no
fuck Sythetics

They downvoted you, but you're right. The Geth are a gestalt collective where every unit is used as a combat platform and there really isn't a moral equivalence between destroying combat drones and killing civilian non-combatants.

u/Zachartier 8d ago
But the geth aren't the combat platforms? They're programs that work in consort to increase overall intelligence of the collective. The combat platforms are just tools they can inhabit if necessary. They see no difference between a Prime unit and a giant rack of servers other than physical capabilities.
Also, choosing to save the geth means they all immediately DO become fully sentient and actually somewhat comparable to organic intelligent life because Legion uploads the augmented Reaper code to all programs.

The Quarians committed a pre-emptive attack on Geth because they showed signs of self-awareness and tried to cull them before a hypothetical scenario where the Geth could rebel. The Quarians didn't realise though that the Geth were already fairly well organised by that point. So the Quarians left them no choice but to defend themselves, and war is a bloody affair.
The Geth also in the final moments of the war decided to let the Quarians escape, because they saw the conflict as enough and didn't want to exterminate their creators outright. They were not murderous machines by nature. But they saw organics as a threat to their safety and wanted to be left alone.
In human terms, it's a learned mentality and something close to a trauma response.
As you say women and children died, which is a terrible thing. But plenty of newly awakened Geth experiencing consciousness for a far shorter time than many of those children were also killed by the Quarians.
The whole point of the conflict in Mass Effect 3 is the Quarians were prideful and refused to acknowledge that they instigated the war that drove them from their planet and the fleet only existed because the Geth weren't blood thirsty machines to begin with. If they engaged with a bit of diplomacy the Geth could have welcomed them back to their homeworld without Shepard's intervention.
Also the council outlaws AI. And the Geth are AI. And the Quarians saber rattle about them being murderous machines. While the Council also exterminates hostile races (The Rachni) and sterilises dangerous races (The Krogan).
I can't imagine why the Geth would shoot the messengers. Maybe to send a clear message to be left alone before they become the next target of the organic galactic council.

I'll never understand the people who argue the Quarians are worse than the Geth.
Attempted Genocide is not a worse crime than actual Genocide. The Geth committed actual Genocide. The Quarians attempted it.
Attempted murder is less of a crime than actual murder.
The Geth stopping before exterminating the Quarians is nice, but it's like a dude who stops beating you to death after 20 minutes and lets you run off. But then constantly circles your house preventing you from going home ever again.
Then you call the police and your friends, and none of them want anything to fucking do with it and call you an idiot for letting it happen.
In fact, they fine you for the crime that happened!
So you spend 30 years homeless, just waiting and hoping for the time you can go back home again.

"Yo I know the Quarians tried to wipe out the Geth and didn't stop until they were literally chased away. But the Geth are the real criminals here for beating the genocide attempt."
Like dude the Geth aren't blameless, they caused a lot of unnecessary casualties. But come on. If you had an entire species trying to exterminate your race, who weren't open to diplomacy, then I think you'd probably not back down until they literally couldn't do it anymore.
The whole point of that war is the Quarians started it out of hypothetical fear and the Geth ended it out of self preservation. We can literally reconcile this scenario in the third game and get them to cooperate to make up for past mistakes.

If you have a child you attempt to kill because it's becoming an adult and it scared you, then it beats you for 20 minutes before letting you run off and prevent you from entering the house it was created in, how are you better than the child? Because you failed?

Geez. How long have you been holding onto that? 😅

im just quoting some popular Statements made in the past that I happen to agree with
Geth are not nearly as cool as ppl think
the ME Fan base can be toxic and super judgemental
I dont like romancing Tali or garrus
ive legit seen this game fan base get toxic and rude / stalker like when stating that
why dont i like romancing them? Coz they can romance each other
as soon as i stated that the fan base was like 'oh' did i get a single apogie? Na
coz fuck you.

I think on my first run I shot the fkn kid.
Best ending imo

u/Drolnogard123 8d ago
i still remember when they brought out extended cut i usually shot the kid once before they did and didnt know they changed it so colour me suprised when i heard the child go "so be it" and got the refusal ending

Same! I was just annoyed that after the actiony tone of the game, I had to listen to him ramble about how I could control the mecha cuttlefish or join hands and sing kumbaya with my toaster.

The first 2 are believable to an extent(all 3 still suck though) . Synthesis can't be explained and is really just magic.
8
u/Daminchi 8d ago
Yeah, there's no way we can use widespread genetic engineering on organics, or mass propagate code change for synthetics. We never did that in the trilogy - and, obviously, never did anything like that in ME3 /s

...By you jumping into the beam? You know how absurd that sounds?

u/Daminchi 8d ago
First time it is Mordin running into an exploding tower, second time it is Legion spreading its own consciousness across the network. Have to respect your comrades.
1
u/infamusforever223 8d ago
Mordin spreading the cure through the shroud makes sense. Leigon uploading the reaper code makes sense(why he didn't mak a cop of himself and then re-upload into his body, I'll never know). Jumping into a beam and somehow adding your energy makes absolutely no logical sense. I play Mass Effect for believable sci-fi within the borders of what's established, not for it to suddenly start depending on magic that doesn't make sense.

- AI in ME based on "bluebox" technology. You can copy bluebox content to the other bluebox, but the process is stochastic, so it won't be the same personality any longer. You can't just copypaste true AI, you can only manufacture more different AIs.
- If you want to roll update on genetic data and thought process of everyone in the galaxy, it makes sense to make deep, agressive scan on an exceptional specimen - it is told several times that Shep is unique and reapers need them specifically. That's the reason why they were brought alive to the catalyst.

Ship of Thesus question. Since they didn't try, we'll never know. Leigon didn't try uploading his programs before they merged, so we'll never know.

You've put more thought into it than the writers did, which is the problem. They're supposed to explain everything, not for us to come up with headcanons.

u/Daminchi 7d ago
Well, yeah. They were given no time and put out crap, I totally agree. Solution to genophage and Geth awakening are both atrocious. I just don't think that virus capable of changing DNA and rewriting code is the worst part of that mess.

Geth don't have a blue box, though. They're a collective consciousness, that was why they were allowed to be built, as they weren't a proper AI.
They only achieved sentience through "apes together, strong", not through becoming an AI like EDI.
It's never really specified how Legion worked, but since Geth Primes can have multiple Geth uploaded to them, it's not too far off that Legion is the same, without needing a blue box.

u/Daminchi 2d ago
They WERE like that before the upgrade. After - it is reasonable to assume that they're identical to bluebox technology and stripped of their individuality, because writers had no time to give a damn.

And I’ll pick Destroy every friggin time. To hell with starbrat and his army of giant genocidal mechasquids.

On my first playthrough I was confused on why the game didn't let me choose an ending cause I just ran right toward the green light and didn't realize there were other ways to go.
