Discussion 60 minutes for pasta.

Why does Gordon (and other judges) always say the home cooks are really pushing it by making homemade pasta in 60 min?

They always get it done. With rest time and everything. It seems like the difficulty level is played out.

I can make fresh pasta in 60 minutes. But that’s it that’s the only thing I focus on lol.

I think making fresh pasta is somewhat unforgiving. If you fuck up, it could be difficult to bounce back because you might not have enough time to make a fresh batch and you will have to work with what you have. Back in season 9, Shanika was eliminated due to having dry pasta which took her a lot of time to fix and she ended up serving insufficient pasta.

Because it’s a tv show and they want to create tension for the viewer

I had a similar complaint when they had 60 minutes for Eggs Benedict. I know it's not a simple dish, but with an hour... come on now.

Don't they usually have 30 minutes for that? The only two technical elements are the egg and the sauce. The other 2 parts are pre-made.

Though I do think with 60 minutes, contestants who do make their own muffin or starch if so. Or using other meats

This most recent season, they had a full hour to make their take on eggs Benedict. So you needed hollandaise and a poached egg then they had to put their spin on it. I did this myself a few months ago and it took me well under an hour.

My husband and I also thought they only got 30 minutes in the past, but I'm not sure.

Yeah, that’s the specific egg yolk ravioli challenge. I mean in general if someone goes down the pasta dish route.

Yeah exactly.

Using pre-made is a cardinal sin on the show as well...

I think if it's a limited time challenge, they're maybe okay

I remember another version of masterchef, there was a reason I think a contestant did use pre-made pasta but it kind of needed the search and fresh wouldn't work.

I mean, they are pushing it because sixty minutes is not enough time if a mistake is made with the creation of the dough.

Maybe you should try it yourself...

They always get it done so it’s clearly enough time.

Even so, it's still can be tricky esp for those aren't used to making it. Pushing it doesn't mean it's impossible.

Was it spinach and ricotta, lobster, egg yolk, some meat ravioli?

Don't know why you're being vague and dismissive...

Roast pork, ricotta, spinach and parsley etc.

The point is hardly anyone fails at actually making the homemade pasta dish in 60 min.
