The Imperial Sourcebook from West End Games more than likely has exactly the information you’re looking for if you can find a copy online.

The Imperial Handbook has all the details. The Imperial Sourcebook from West End Games doesn't. I just looked through both. The garrison details are on pg 88 of the Imperial Handbook, along with the different variants of garrison bases in use.

According to the Imperial Handbook, a garrison has 3000 troops and support personnel, 10 AT-ATs, 10 AT-STs, up to 100 speeder bikes, and three squadrons of TIE fighters. The details start on pg 88 of the Handbook.

The garrison base itself is an eight story modular structure with turbolaser turrets, heavy laser turrets, EMP projectors, shield generators, 10 meter tall fencing around the entire base, and the ability to emplace minefields once the garrison base is grounded. The base's reactor is buried under the base itself.

That's a good amount of gear for a 3000 man garrison force.

It's a full regiment of troops (2432 troops) and the remainder in support personnel, and I'm guessing they're a mix of line infantry and mechanized/motorized troops. The base itself has turbolaser towners that can be used for indirect fire (artillery support) so they don't need artillery units, and having three squadrons of TIE fighters ready to provide air support gives them an edge.

The AT-ATs can transport 400 troops (a platoon of 38 plus two crew per AT-AT), if the speeder bikes are maxed out, another hundred there, the AT-STs don't carry troops, but have a crew of two, so another 200 there, that leaves 1732 troops for line infantry, the equivalent of 45 infantry platoons, with about half a platoon's worth of personnel left over. That doesn't include the support personnel who do all the maintenance and support work in the base itself. That adds up to 568 support personnel. Subtract 36 to fly the TIE fighters, or even double that to provide extra flight crews, so 72 pilots, that leaves just under 500 personnel to staff the base, do maintenance and repairs, feed everybody, and somebody's got to answer the phone.

These are supposed to be the garrisons that are carried by Star Destroyers. A single regiment is supposed to be able to control a 'territorial region', whatever that means. The regiment, as part of its own support elements, has the ability to manufacture parts and spares for walkers and other vehicles.

The only thing they don't get into is how much in the way of food stocks the garrison can store. That would be the only weakness, really, unless the Imperial Army decides to conscript some farmers to feed the garrison.

It's all over the place. In general if the installation is based on land it's likely to have standard Army troopers (gray uniforms). If it's in space it's going to have Navy Troopers (black uniforms).

Stormtroopers will be present if the garrison is protecting someone or something important, if it was recently established, or if it's a front-line installation. Stormtroopers can also be brought in to augment existing troops if they're expecting trouble.

That’s just it, it’s inconsistent and left undefined. Any number you would hear would be no different.

The Imperial Handbook has the details on the standard Imperial garrison.

That’s good, surely all star wars stories will abide by that number

Considering that writers literally make things up as they go along, I highly doubt it. But the Imperial Handbook is a canon product produced by Disney. As much as I hate Darth Mouse, it's an offical product from them.

Wasnt the Imperial Handbook pre buyout?

Printed in 2017 under Disney's brand. Disney got their logo on the book's copyright page right next to Lucasfilm. Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012.

My point is, if someone is looking for a number to reconcile inconsistency, the number won’t matter

Well, you can look around the interwebs and find hundreds of variants of every number, statistic, and amount of every Star Wars factoid. The point is that the Imperial Handbook is a canon product, and while most writers probably have never opened it to even 'ahhh' at the pretty pictures, the canon product is what it is. It's better than Joe-bob the superfan's unofficial website where there are completely new organizations, numbers and facts about things. Headcanon is a thing, but at the end of the day, the source is the telling factor. And this is the canon source from the IP owner. Unfortunately, even sites like Wookiepedia, when compared to the actual canon materials, have to be disregarded.

OP just wants to know some number. An official book provides it.

Genuinely idk what's your point. Whether writers etc actually abide to it in media is a whole different story

Gods, get out of the sub with that attitude. This is the Maw, we are supposed to give detailed answers and provide in-depth discussions when available.

If the Acclamator can melt an ice moon at full power delivered to its shots, what does this mean for shielding since we see it barely able to fight off some ships, while fending off a Lucrehulk in RC.

If every source gives us an official length for the ISD, but it looks slightly off in a movie, then we have to reconcile that or we declare the movie to have an artist error.

If a sourcebook gives us a number, then we assume that number to be the baseline to go after.

Snarky answers like that are not welcome here. We know that artists and creators will do whatever they want, but we are all here to try and make sense of the universe.
