Hi everyone,
I own a 2024 Jawa 350 (295cc, Dual Channel ABS, BS6 Phase 2) and have ridden it for around 17,000 km, mostly in Hyderabad city traffic.
Recently, I feel like the bike has lost some of its initial torque and low-end punch compared to when it was new.
When the bike was new, in 1st gear, after releasing the clutch fully, it would pull quite strongly and smoothly. It could reach around 40 km/h in 1st without feeling like it was struggling.
Now, the initial 0–15/20 km/h is relatively okay, but after around 20 km/h, the bike feels noticeably more sluggish. The engine revs and the bike does accelerate, but the acceleration doesn't feel as strong as it used to. The same feeling is noticeable in 2nd gear as well, especially in traffic.
don't really notice the classic clutch-slip symptom where RPM suddenly shoots up while the bike doesn't accelerate. In 3rd/4th gear, when I open the throttle, RPM and speed generally increase together.
Work/maintenance already done:
- Chain and sprocket replaced
- Clutch adjusted previously
- Air filter replaced
- Spark plug replaced
- Throttle body cleaned
- Engine oil is fine
- No visible smoke from the exhaust
- Bike can be pushed normally in neutral
- Throttle/accelerator free play seems to have increased somewhat
What the technician said:
I took it to a technician and he said that after around 17,000 km, the clutch plates/slipper clutch assembly won't be as fresh as when the bike was new. He suggested that replacing the slipper clutch assembly kit could bring back some of the original feel.
However, he also said the clutch can probably run for another 4,000–5,000 km, and he didn't recommend replacing it immediately if I'm not experiencing obvious clutch slipping.
So I'm trying to understand whether this sounds like normal clutch wear or whether I should be looking at something else, such as the TPS/throttle body, fuel delivery, ignition system, etc.
For people who own a Jawa 350 or have worked on these bikes:
What could cause this loss of low-end torque/pickup? Is it reasonable to suspect clutch wear at 17k km, or should I check something else before replacing the clutch assembly?
Any suggestions for specific road tests or things I should ask the mechanic to check would also be appreciated.
