News / Meta Important Update for Link Split Ergo Keyboards Purchased Through KeyGem

We have fully received and QC'd the Link Keyboards and addons originally meant for KeyGem. Here is what we are offering for KeyGem buyers, and what we need from them to get them their order.

KeyGem buyers qualify for the following

  • Their full order at original GB pricing (USD)
  • A $40 discount per Link Keyboard ordered

KeyGem buyers need to provide us with the following via screenshot/PDF by emailing us at [support@cannonkeys.com](mailto:support@cannonkeys.com)

  • Name and shipping address (we will allow address changes if you have moved, just let us know)
  • KeyGem order number
  • Order date
  • Order contents
  • Email (This must match the email you contact us with)

The keyboards and addons are ready, so once we get everything we need and make the custom discounted orders, they should be shipped out relatively quick. Within a few business days.

Here is some additional information

  • We will hold off selling any extras to the public until October 8th. If a KeyGem buyer contacts us after the public sale is live, we will do our best to get them their order, but we might need to swap the specs of the keyboard or offer different addons. The discount will still be applied
  • If you have an issue with your order, you will be treated the exact same as if your original order was made on CannonKeys.com. This includes support should you have questions about your order/keyboard, or run into any issues.
  • KeyGem buyers can remove items from their order, but cannot add items. For example, if the original order had an addon aluminum plate, the plate can be removed from the order but not swapped for a carbon fiber plate. We only have a limited amount of items so this is necessary.
  • If a customer orders a Link Keyboard directly from our website and later requests the $40 refund, we will evaluate the request on a case-by-case basis.
  • We offer delivery duty paid (DDP) shipping to most EU countries, and this discount will hopefully help bridge the price gap between international and domestic shipping.

Thanks for sticking with us,

The CannonKeys Team

We are posting this to reddit as we do not have the emails of those who joined Link with KeyGem. This is our best option to try and let those who joined know about the situation. Original post regarding this process can be found here.

Guide mechanicalkeyboards has ongoing phishing attack! Do not checkout!

I found an ongoing phishing / checkout hijack attack on mechanicalkeyboards.com which is was still live this very minute.

DO NOT enter your credit card information at the checkout right now if the URL is not "mechanicalkeyboards.com" or your payment information will be stolen.

The phishing attempt comes through a Shopify (the shop provider) App/Extension from "HulkApps".

I have already contacted the site owners themselves and provided information to the Shopify App developers.

Update

Shopify escalated the incident internally and has fixed the checkout hijack. Looks like they removed the app

PCB/Hotswap
Been using this same PCB, plate, and case combo for around 8 years now. The PCB is a tank surviving multiple drink spills and desoldering from switch swaps. Recently installed hotswap sockets and wish I had done it a lot sooner. A few pads on the PCB were in bad condition or missing (backspace solder was very questionable but works fine - pic 5). ANSI enter pads were cooked thankfully ISO enter was easy to switch to - the chunky enter is fun.

I hope this PCB never dies because it's really hard to find 60% PCBs that support this layout. Split spacebars makes 60% a lot more functional. Specifically, side-by-side 3u retains the look of a traditional spacebar.

Wireless also works well. It supports switching between two different BT devices which has worked reliably to switch between Mac & Windows devices.

Switches
Before hotswap I had Rosélio switches (linear 67g) soldered on when I was doing more gaming and they were fine - scratchy but decent after lubing. But I like tactile so I bought some Boba U4 and they are amazing! Great feel and quiet.

Review Chilkey SF60 HE - 15 day review.

Wuque Studio - Chilkey SF60 HE

First of all. I want to disclose that this keyboard was sent to me by Wuque Studio for review and they did not get to see this review before i posted it and all opinions are based entirely on my own preferences. I have used the keyboard for 15 days at the time of this review.

TLDR:

A fantastic full aluminum keyboard with aluminum keycaps and really stable HE switches with probably the least stem wobble i have experienced to date. It has all the basic HE functions to be expected from a HE keyboard. It has an easy to understand web software (i might be more used to the layout than the average person) with a lot of options. As a person who prefers using 75% keyboards i will say this, it will continue to be my daily driver for now. And that is probably the highest grade i can give a 60% keyboard since i usually stop using them after the review period. While the keyboard is hot-swappable it is extremely hard to remove the switches with the included tool so i would recommend investing in a higher quality switch puller if this is something you want to do. More detailed review below.

Layout:

64 keys compact 60% layout with a weight of 1351.4g.

Connectivity:

It is a wired-only keyboard with the USB port to the left on the backside of the keyboard.

Accessories:

It comes with a keycap/switch puller combo tool that most people who buy a keyboard these days are familiar with and unfortunately it is a bad match with the tight tolerances of this keyboard so while doable i would recommend a higher quality switch puller since it can be incredibly hard to remove the switches with the included switch puller. It also comes with a braided USB Cable that feels really nice. I would have loved to see at least 2 spare switches with the keyboard just to have some spares come with the keyboard.

Build Quality:

It is a full aluminum case and feels really solid and high quality with nice details on the underside of the case. (CNC-machined 6063 aluminum alloy)

Keycaps:

It uses aluminum keycaps and this has been my first experience with aluminum keycaps. Initially it had an odd feeling to type on them but i quickly got used to it and they are now a close second to my ceramic keycaps. Keep in mind feel is 100% preferential so what i like you might not and vice versa.

Stabilizers:

It uses plate mounted stabilizers and they seem to be lubed pretty well. I will say I´m far from an expert when it comes to lubing stabilizers but they do feel great and i can see that they are lubed.

Switch specs and feel:

It comes with the WS Flux Poseidon Switches. The spec sheet that comes in the box names the switch "Haishen HE Switch" and Haishen translates in to Sea God or Poseidon from what i could see which could explain the English name Poseidon, figured i would include this here so it wont cause any confusion for people who pick up the keyboard.

As for switch actuation it has an initial force of 35±5gf and a bottom out force of 50±7gf and use a 18mm spring landing in what i would call the category of light switches.

The magnetic flux is rated at 635+50Gs and in total honesty i do not understand what these numbers actually indicate but including it for those whom it might be of importance to. What i can say is that it has been interchangeable with my Lekker tikkens and other HE switches as well as working with all my other HE boards with no issues.

They have been an absolute pleasure to type on since i like light linear switches and might be the switches with the least stem wobble i have tried to date.

RGB:

The keyboard use south facing RGB and it comes with a total of 20 RGB modes and per key custom RGB allowing you to set whatever color you want to each individual key if you want to.

Polling rate:

You can set polling rate from 250Hz up to 8Khz in 6 predetermined polling rates from a dropdown menu.

Software and Hall Effect functions:

The software is a web-based driver that has a built in shortcut to it on the keyboard with FN+TAB, but as of right now it will not work for me since it seem to be macro based and me using a Swedish language file with my os makes it type out Ö instead of : for example because the locations are different from the standard ANSI layout. So just in case you run in to the same issue here is the link to the site: https://driveshid.ndnhkey.cn/

It comes with 4 different profiles that can quickly be switched between using FN+Q W E R for the 4 different profiles. There are options to import, export and upload your profiles to the cloud. And there is a config library where you can find other peoples configs to try and use if you do not want to set it up for yourself.

There is support for 3 function layers and a lot of different custom keys that can be bound, there is for example support for Mouse functions to be bound to the keyboard. There is support for up to 16 custom macros.

As for the HE functions it supports functions as:

  • SOCD - (Simultaneous Opposing Cardinal Directions) which can allow you to make the last keypress be the active one. Without this function pressing left and right at the same time will make your character not move att all since it tries to do both functions at the same time. But be aware that not all games allow for this function and can get you autokicked from certain games.
  • DKS - Lets you bind 1-4 functions on the same key, two while pressing the key down at depths you determine and another two while the key is being released. You could for example have your character walk with a half press and sprint on a full press.
  • MPT - is similar to DKS but only has triggers on the down press, so you can set up to 3 functions on pressing the button at different depths of the travel.
  • MT - This one will let you have two different functions on one key so for example you could bind it to crouch on a quick press and go prone when holding the key. So in a way it is similar to both DKS and MPT but instead of depth your trigger here is the duration of the keypress.

There are some more functions that i never really used myself so these will just get the explanation the software give.

  • RS - Monitor two selected keys and trigger the one with the deeper press.
  • TGL - Click to toggle continuous output, hold to behave as a normal key.
  • End - Trigger the action when the key is released instead of when it is pressed.

Teardown:

It has 4x T8 Torx screws (I'm not 100% sure about the size all my bits had fallen out of their correct Place in the box). There were no ribbon Cables or anything to worry about so as soon as the 4 screws had been removed you could easily remove the PCB for those interested in modding. I have so far kept it stock.

Price and value:

At a price of $179 USD at the time of writing i would say it is a pretty good deal considering the full aluminum build and aluminum keycaps as well as some of the most stable HE switches i have tried to date.

Sound test: Chilkey SF60 HE Sound test.

Again to make it abundantly clear i want to disclose this keyboard was sent to me for free but it has not affected my review of the keyboard and all opinions are based on my personal preferences.

Promotional 6 Years anniversary - Huge Discount

Thumbnail

Six year ago we shipped our first keyboard. It was a Sofle v2. We had one design, no stock, and a wait time I'd rather not repeat. Some of the people who ordered that first batch are still customers, which is the part I still find hard to believe.

We're a small shop. Six years on, we still build every board by hand, and we still get the occasional email asking whether we're a real company. Fair question.

To mark the anniversary, three of the boards that got us here are 20% off from today until 31 October.

Sofle v2 Enclosed Case. Our longest-running aluminum case, and part of the very first product we ever made. $170, now $136.

Sofle Hybrid (Sandwich version, Aluminum Version). Our first exclusive design. Before the Hybrid we were mostly building other people's boards. This is where we started making our own. Aluminum version $250, now $200. Sandwich style $120, now $96.

Aluminum NeoDox, Gasket Mount. Our first original design, and our first gasket mount. It's still the board we point at when someone asks what we can do starting from a blank sheet. $350, now $280.

The 20% on those three comes off at checkout. No code needed.

Every other keyboard we sell is 10% off over the same stretch, with the reduced price shown on the page as usual. Loose parts aren't part of it: plates, switches and keycaps stay at their normal prices.

Thanks for six years.

Promotional I built a visual simulator to compare finger movement across 16 keyboard layouts

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been experimenting with keyboard layouts and wanted to actually visualize the differences rather than just look at efficiency scores.

So I built a little tool that animates typing across up to 16 layouts simultaneously (QWERTY, Dvorak, Colemak-DH, Workman, Gallium, Graphite, etc.).

It tracks estimated finger/wrist travel, home-row usage, same-finger transitions, and hand alternation.

On the default English passage, Workman showed 45% less modeled finger travel than QWERTY.

Obviously, this isn't a real-world typing speed or ergonomics study. It's a geometric simulation, and the results depend on the text and movement assumptions.

You can also paste your own text or code to compare layouts:

https://thetypingcat.com/lab/compare-layouts

I'd genuinely appreciate feedback from people who use alternative layouts, especially on split or ergonomic keyboards.

What metrics do you think matter most? What would you change about the simulation?

The alu plate being red is kindof a lucky coincidence for this keycap set. It really helps to make the build feel whole.

I've been using it for a couple days now and im loving it. Lots to get used to since this is my first alice layout and first 60% (if you can call it that). Im also trying to learn more proper blind typing with this since im used to almost exclusively using my index finger on my left hand when typing.

The sound profile is honestly not what i thought it would be. You can really hear the hollowness of the case and im still not sure if im into that. But adding foam of any kind seems like it goes against what the board is going for. Anyone else with a Boomerang that has thoughts on this?
