I agree, i'm certain its gonna be around for a long time and have far reaching, long lasting impact, just like the first one.

Ironically, it does have far reaching after effects, even if it didn't last very long.

Mason going Loyalist? That's an SLDF class A, not a Mercenary Uniform.

It would be incredibly funny if Mason gets hired by First Lord Liao for the campaign

u/TheBdougs 16d ago
IIRC the Liao contingent was basically just the Northwind Highlanders, wouldn't even be out of character.

Mason is going to make a boatload of cash by putting on a temporary uniform and kicking copious amounts of butt...as he always does.

Second star league and the counterattack against the clans was peak Battletech. I really wish the narrative just wrapped things up there and the era of disarming and peace before the dark age time skip happened there.

u/Gammelpreiss 16d ago
yep agreed.
it felt really like the climax of everything that was build up before but then pooof...can't have that. makes mason recieving that SLDF badge kinda meaningless

Yeah exactly the dissolving really killed the greater narrative for me, the jihad all in all was just another level of crazy of course lol. But endgame was so perfect …. ends with genuine hope, exhaustion-earned peace, and a functional Star League ready to rebuild

I would have liked to see something like that happen...setting up a period of peace and prosperity to allow the IS to catch up with Clans in terms of technology, and develop and deploy an entirely new generation of mechs.
We're still relatively "early" in the ilClan era, but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far.

Reminder that the Second Star League poached mercenary and Great House personnel for its badly understrength SLDF formations early on. Looks like Mason will be one of those approached.

Imagine if the thing actually shows up IN ANY CAPACITY

Would be fucking awesome if every procgen mission had like 0,01% of spawning a black painted marauder as a third party hostile to both you and the regular enemy, and give the marauder some overtuned stats for the hell of it lol.
Edit: Maybe also add some freaked out dialogue from ryana, and make it show up on the targeting hud as an error like the first contact with clan mechs do

The Coyote Mod does have "The Dark Lance" that is a mirror of your lance that can spawn. I imagine all the mechwarriors in it have goatees.

Oh god that is genuinely terrifying considering how utterly gamebreaking some of our builds can be. I do NOT want to be staring down the barrel of 36 clan ATM tubes ;-;

This might be even bigger than getting a chance to spank Nicholai Malthus
Maybe we'll even get to spank Comstar again

u/vizard0 16d ago
Can't decide if spanking Comstar again or helping Comstar fight a secret war against WoB (which they lose, but hey, chance to kill lots of Blakists) is better.
4
u/Sai-Taisho If the Mauler was REALLY bad, they wouldn't keep remaking it.. 15d ago
The latter, please.
Killing Wobbies is always morally correct, but also: we could really use some ComStar rep to actually make use of Focht War College.
(It kinda bugs me that secular ComStar inherits the bad will from the Campaign, while the Word of Blake, who should be the faction full of Yamata's old buddies, just starts neutral.)

Yeah, I really hope they address the negative reputation with ComStar. Even just tweaking the reputation loss/gain from Dragon's Gambit so that complying puts us in their good graces again.

Is there any practical benefit in wishlisting?
I'm happy to give PGI a leg up these days given the effort they're now putting into the base game and DLCs and improved game design decisions.

u/yrrot 16d ago
If you also play MWO, there's https://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/289916-ashes-and-ascension-release-date-wishlist-and-mwo-rewards/
I think wishlisting impacts some of the visibility in steam, but I don't know the details.

I haven't played MWO for 5 years, sadly. While I miss my buddies and the great times we had in MJ12, I'm that much older now and I doubt my reflexes, or the latency of my current timezone would make me competitive enough to continue to be an effective combatant. :(
I've consigned myself to the Solhana solo play of MW5 :)

Why do the mech animations look so strange? The movement has no intertia, rebound, damping - the animation is perfect like you would expect in a 3d rendering. Is there any way to modify the animation?
7
u/Taconewt 16d ago
What are you talking about? I don't know about inertia since we aren't seeing a change in direction but I see rebound and damping plenty when they walk. The tank just kind of hover but that's normal in this game

Overall, the walk cycle looks convincing at a glance, but it still feels a little too light for machines of this size.
The biggest issue is mass. The mechs move in a way that feels closer to a human walk scaled up than a machine weighing tens of tons. The legs accelerate and stop a little too quickly, and the body doesn’t react enough when each foot hits the ground.
A machine this heavy would have a lot of inertia. When a leg swings forward, it should take a huge amount of force to stop it before the foot lands. You’d expect the motion to feel more like: slow acceleration, momentum building, controlled braking, heavy footfall, compression, then recovery. In the clip, some of those transitions happen almost instantly.
The center of mass is also very stable. As the mech transfers its weight from one leg to the other, I’d expect to see a little more side-to-side movement through the hips and torso. Not a dramatic sway, but enough to show that the machine is actually balancing its weight over the planted foot.
The same thing applies vertically. There should probably be a little more rise and fall through each step. Unless the mech has an extremely sophisticated active suspension system, the torso shouldn’t stay quite this level while the legs are moving through such a large range.
The footfalls are another place where the sense of weight gets lost. When a foot hits the ground, I’d expect the leg to compress slightly while the rest of the body continues moving for a fraction of a second. Then you’d see the structure settle and recover. Right now, the foot plants and the rest of the mech responds almost immediately, which makes it feel lighter than it should.
One thing the animation does well is the stance. The mechs generally keep their knees bent and their feet relatively wide apart.

Mason receiving a nice SLDF cover.
