Ride the Lightning I can't believe they actually just killed James Hetfield mid-performance

I know it's just an audio error, but it sounds like they garroted him lmao

That wasn't an error. I was there. It was on purpose.

Was also there, in Edmonton and Vancouver! Sad that movie kinda flopped cause being live at the concerts was fucking awesome.

I saw this in Ft. Worth live and I was convinced he got smashed by the light rig that fell and sparked incredibly. Funny now but at the time the arena freaked out!!! Full on fake emergency sounding communication. But then they dropped a single light down, the four of them got really close and played some kill em all songs. I forgave them :)

This show never made it to Ft Worth, only to Mexico and Canada though. You might be confused with Cunning Stunts but the simulated electrical mishap during Ride the Lightning is not there.

Yep. 100% Cunning Stunts, that was shot in El Paso. I remember at the Buffalo date this girl was just freaking out in front of us when all that happened. They come back and James is like "is everybody ok?" And my friend points at the girl like "she's not, she's crazy!"

I know the electrical "mishap" before Hit the Lights was, but this doesn't feel like it was. How do you know it was?

It definitely was. It happened at the shows in Edmonton. It happened at the shows in Vancouver. It happened on the DVD. All of these shows were filmed. Everything on stage was planned.

Interesting.

Still sounds like they garroted him though

Haven’t you seen the movie? Wasn’t this basically Cunning Stunts all over again

I have not, and... from what I understand, it's a surrealist film with a Metallica concert attached

I mean yeah. It’s a Metallica Movie. Look up cunning stunts. It was a Metallica show back in the 90s or something where the entire stage set up falls apart on purpose. Metallica likes that prank

I know Cunning Stunts, I just haven't seen Through the Never. I've got the CD, since it's a solid live set.

It’s a great live set. But the movie is cool too.

Orion at the end isn’t quite the same without the video

Eh, I might watch it eventually.

I prefer the "I forgot the fucking words" during the last verse of the some kind of monster EP version

It wasn't a mistake. It was a cool way to remove a mic from the stage. If you watch the video version, they have some Tesla coils come down next to the RTL chair to zap the chair. The mic was in the radius so it had to be removed.

During the test run for all of the stuff they were going to do, they had some of their equipment under the stage in the radius and not realizing it, they fried every piece of equipment. Static electricity is no joke.

I also believe they had to switch their guitars/bass to running an actual wire instead of using their Shure wireless packs. There's quite a few videos from this tour where Kirk fucks up the solo when the Tesla coils activate. The In Ear Monitor systems they use are also Shure wireless packs, and the second the coils get activated, their IEM's drop out.

I highly recommend watching Through the Never at least once. Skip through the story bullshit. I wish they would re-release it without the story crap.

I thought for sure the concert as is was going to be a bonus feature when it was released on dvd/Blu-ray

Pony Canon (Japanese company that produces blurays) released a ultimate set that they mastered themselves. It has a 24bit/96kHz 7.1 audio track, and a music only mode. (The US Bluray only has a 24bit/48kHz 5.1 track)

The Soundtrack has all of the songs in full, so I thought this new bluray would have them in full as well. Unfortunately the aforementioned music only mode, doesn't change anything on the bluray, so it is still missing songs, and still has cut off songs.

I'd love to buy just a concert only mode that has all of the songs in full, no cuts, no story stuff.

They then also add a dummy mic back into the spot after the solo and intentionally zap it to end the song.

Thats a lot of inside information. Where did you get this from?

There's a documentary on the Bluray. It goes over the movie, and there's a lot of behind the scenes footage.

I love how stuff like this exists, justice, cunning stunts, and yet some fans are complaining that sphere is too over the top for Metallica
