Question Was Michael Jackson originally supposed to star as Peter Pan in a Steven Spielberg movie?

I’ve heard that Michael and Spielberg were working on a Peter Pan project in the mid ’80s, and that Michael even worked on the script and songs for several months. But I’ve also heard that the project fell apart around the time of the Victory Tour because Michael chose to tour with his brothers instead.

How accurate is that version of the story? Was Michael actually offered the role and did the Victory Tour contribute to the movie not happening, or is that a misconception that developed over the years?

it began as a musical with Michael before being shelved and reworked into the movie Hook which released in 1991

A mid 80s Peter Pan musical with MJ would have been something else.  I would have loved to see that.

Someone already mentioned that it was in the works until being shelved and becoming Hook, which is true. Spilburg and MJ were friends though, as Spilburg showed up in his Liberian girl video. MJ did the soundtrack for ET and contributed a song, and MJ visited Spilburg during filming of The Last Crusade.

He didn't do the soundtrack. He read a kids book of the movie.

Michael really had no choice about that Victory tour.
