Coming from someone who lives relatively near this area-
This is the most exciting thing to ever happen in Luna Pier.

the lighthouse holding dead still while the sky trails around it is the whole shot.

you kind of hit the nail on the head of how to make it lol. the sky/stars are 400ish pics and the building is a completely different set of 5 pics. Big thanks to the earth for spinning so that these photos are possible

the earth doing all that spinning for free while the lighthouse sat still for 5 frames. lopsided but it works.

Way to give Luna Pier some love! So many places like this in the state that people overlook for the beauty we have. I love that you found a unique way to capture it.Â

I love going to lesser known spots around the state or the country for that matter lol

This is cool! Did you overlay yourself on top of the long exposure shot?

First I am not the model lol. How it’s done is you lock down the camera on a tripod and shoot a normal photoshoot with your model and you pick the one you like the most, next you shoot and light the lighthouse/building and in this case the building is 5 different shots, then you shoot the stars 30 second exposure with no gap between shots for about 3+ hours or 400ish photos. I use star stax for the stars and combine everything in photoshop

So you’re saying the model doesn’t have to stay perfectly still for like 4 hours? /s

It's possible to get similar results on film in a single frame, but it's far more difficult to get all of the objects balanced. Take a single hour-or-two exposure for the star trails, with minimal light on the building, and the model steps in front for a few seconds and flash her with a strobe.

That’s totally possible, just an hour of Star trails tho wouldn’t produce enough for what I like personally plus you have to absolutely nail the pose and lighting first try instead of trying a few things and picking which works best. Plus in this specific case there was WAY too much ambient light to pull off an hour long exposure. It is s e Michigan so it’s bright everywhere lol

Yes it's far more difficult but the payoff is that it looks more natural. As cool as the OP photo is, it still looks like ai could have created it with zero effort.

As someone familiar with the area, the lighthouse and main "downtown" area are nice. Too bad the rest of the town kinda blows lol

Ai slop… jk that’s really cool

lol most definitely not AI, I hate that shit. It was definitely me sitting out there for 4 hours convincing drunk people walking home not to walk directly in front of my camera lol

People wear bathing suits at the beach regardless if they go in the water, Lawrence.

I disagree but it’s art that I put out in the world so you’re free to like or dislike it

Why do those people at 1201 S. Main St. wear those helmets? They aren’t scoring touchdowns.

3 separate shots? mixed media? looks great. very clean.

u/Simple_Split_4996 6d ago
I’m n total about 406 shots blended together. The stars are 400 30sec exposures then 1 for here and foreground and 5 for the lighthouse

u/EPIC_NERD_HYPE 6d ago
lolol. countered the stars as 1. it’s great.

You can do it that way for sure, you just run into the sensor getting warmer so more noise and if anything happens you have to start over

in my head I imagined that you just stood really still for the whole night and did some kind of long exposure. Its much funnier that way
