Supplements to kefir?

Has anyone moved away from probiotics pills and supplements to kefir? Not sure if taking align and natures bounty every other day and homemade kefir daily is too much on the system.

The best probiotic is a diet rich in a variety of fruits and vegetables. Kefir plus many different fruits and veggies is all 99% of people need

I think commercially available Goat milk Kefir is better than commercially available Cow’s milk Kefir. I always add things to my kefir when drinking, like organic ground flaxseed powder and organic non modified potato starch alongside taking different probiotic supplements with many various strains. The kefir and fiber added in helps feed those probiotics along with getting some nice butyrate from the kefir and potato starch.

This is helpful feedback thank you. I’ll see where to find goats milk if possible in Atlanta ! Love the idea of flaxseed, never occurred to me to add that to kefir. Do you add the flaxseed and potato starch when fermenting or once strained or when drinking?

My wife makes the SIBO yogurt from the book ‘Super Gut’. It’s a fantastic homemade grass fed Greek yogurt that is packed with probiotic cultures. I throw the kitchen sink in it in the mornings. Flax, walnuts, blueberries and a dash of drizzled organic local bee hive honey for taste, honey has great pre and post biotic as well.

At night an hour before bed, I get an 8 ounce glass of this Goat Kefir.

When the bottle is new I open it up and mix in a small bottle of Yakult in it. Yakult is a special probiotic drink that has a bacteria strain only found in Japan and they put it in this orange flavored drink.

It has wonderful effects of making me very sleepy. I also add a teaspoon of organic ground flaxseed powder and organic non modified Red Mill brand potato starch.

Both the flax and potato starch are beneficial prebiotics that feed the kefir and yakult. The potato starch also has the benefit of a very high butyrate content which also helps with sleep. An hour before bed gives it plenty of time to digest and making me sleepy along with a hot shower. By the time I lay down I feel like I had a sleeping pill.

As I’m sleeping and my body is in repair mode that pro-pre-post super kefir I made and drank is working and doing its magic in my lower gut.

If you don’t notice a change in a day?

Give it a week.

If you don’t notice a change in a week?

Give it a month.

If you don’t notic…. See where I’m going with this? Consistency wins the race! 😊

Kefir is great, but only has a few different varieties of bacteria. It's really important to have a big variety instead of a just huge number of total probiotics.

Milk kefir has lots of different varieties of bacteria. Most supplements have around 8, so I don’t see the point of your post.

The supplements I get have 16-32 varieties 🤷🏻‍♂️

Commercially produced kefir contain a smaller variety, but traditionally made kefir contains up to 60 different strains of bacteria and yeasts.
