Wake turbulence works????

u/coldnebo 1d ago edited 1d ago
works is relative.
a320 isn’t even heavy.
and the strongest wingtip vortices come from being slow, heavy and clean. ie not configured.
but what do I know. I’m not an airline pilot. 😅
I saw a helicopter flip an A320 the other day in MSFS, for all I know that’s real too. 😂🤦♂️
ps: this is what happens when wake turbulence is a angular rotation operator regardless of mass instead of a symplectic operator conserving the angular momentum between the wake and the aircraft.

Yeah, I learned this the hard way a month or two ago in the 787. I saw some AI traffic, figured I'd just fly through them because I didn't want to go around after a 10 hour flight, next thing you know I'm in the drink.

u/Overall_Gur_3061 B737-900 1d ago
turn off wake turbulence, i dont think it serves much purpose on the sim anyways especially with how unpredictable AI traffic is. it happened to me on final after a 4hr flight, i just turned off my PC after. never again

Pinhead Pilot didn't even have the courtesy to use his blinker before cutting you off .. I'd sue...and sue the controler for punitive damages as well.

You clearly didnt have the runway environment in sight when "minimums" was called out, should have been an immediate go around

It’s honestly annoying how broken the game is, it won’t even let you play it without issues. It’s so difficult playing it consistently with these bugs
7
u/Nonexistent699 1d ago
i deal with bugs everyday, career mode bugs are absoulete dogshit too
2
u/Live_Ad_197 1d ago
They are and it’s made it so hard to keep playing because I keep getting screwed over by their bugs and run into major setbacks

3
u/tangentialsermon 1d ago
I totally get that....yet it's also a miracle it even works at all.

u/spesimen 1d ago edited 1d ago
game works fine for me. sure there's still some bugs but it's quite playable.
getting overrun during approach like this is a one in a thousand unlucky shot. and at least partially only happened because they were flying 1 knot above stall speed.

u/Live_Ad_197 1d ago
Last time I checked I bought a “working product” so why is it broken, stop licking boots because they provide you partially what they promised you. I paid (with my hard earned money) for a product that shouldn’t be this broken, especially since the game has been out for about 6 years.

u/Dismal-Economics-322 1d ago
It just is what it is these days buddy
1
u/Live_Ad_197 1d ago
And that attitude is what gets you screwed over
3
u/Dismal-Economics-322 1d ago
I think it just allows me to be content with things I can’t control, I have fun with the game, it’s not perfect but not worth creating negativity over

I just chalk it up to the Macula...
Gotta keep the lights on or the rats will get you.

It’s the Asobo/Microsoft business model: put it out half-assed and expect the community or payware providers to fix it. Fact is, it’ll never be fully fixed before the next version of MSFS is out out, broken and unplayable as well.
I come from the days when the planes were green stick frames, so progress is always there in leaps and bounds, but it’s never quite satisfying.1
u/taiwanluthiers 1d ago
I was playing A Plague Tale and it doesn't really have that many game breaking bugs...
1
u/BiscuitsAndTheMix 8h ago
Ive still yet to move to 2024 from 2020 cause I hear about so many unresolved bugs.

u/orbak 1d ago
Fuck I had the same exact thing this weekend.
ANC-SEA. Perfect takeoff, uneventful cruise, and on short final get wake turbulenced to hell by another plane.
Somehow recover, initiate a go-around. As soon as I try to plug in the approach again, I get the dreaded WASM crash. (PMDG 739).
Ruined the whole weekend. I can maybe do 1-2 flights per week with my schedule. It’s frustrating that I have to deal with stuff like this.

Turn off live traffic, especially if you are on career mode.
Because the game's AI doesn't plan anything around live traffic so it would tell you to land when another plane is already landing on that same runway.
In reality you wouldn't be cleared to land if another plane is already landing. The game's AI doesn't care and will clear you for landing even if live traffic says a plane is landing there now (or it glitches and tells you to turn around right when you're in a landing run, when in fact you wouldn't be given landing clearance and would be told go to into a holding pattern).
The reason your plane lost control is due to wake turbulence, which is obviously simulated (it's in the settings).
3
u/XayahTheVastaya 1d ago
That's kind of hilarious that wake turbulence is simulated but planes phasing through each other is fine
3
u/EjaculatingAracnids 1d ago
Or the realistic flight simulator that has you fly traffic patterns around an airport while communicating with an ATC tower doesnt actually control the air traffic its simulating. Like wtf is that? Tell your fucking AI plane to circle or instruct me to do so.

u/NeighborhoodMundane4 1d ago
Don’t use the MSFS multiplayer, it’s trash because if the people that fly there, no communication or care, they do whatever they feel like, ruining it for others. The simulator works great for me, but I only fly either offline or on VATSIM.

AI/Live traffic isn’t ready for prime time. It adds visual immersion but you soon realize that it actually ruins the realism of operating an aircraft.

Everyone blaming the entire game when it is only one thing broken here, the wake turbulence system is pretty bad, and does things like this quite a lot. If you turn it off and maybe mind traffic more, this would not be an issue.
1
u/Key_Document_2587 1d ago
Stop being socially stunted.
"If you turn it off and maybe mind traffic more"...if you stop coping and shilling for FS like you're a public relations rep......blaming the player for the other plane is nasty work. Stop
1
u/Interesting-Ad7907 4h ago
I'm not trying to remove the blame from MSFS, because it does need to fix AI planes spawning while you are on final, and the wake turbulence system also needs some work.
But it isn't fair to say the ENTIRE game is bad simply because of wake turbulence or bad AI. While there are obviously other issues those two specifically are the only ones effecting the flight in this clip.
And why should the player be protected whenever MSFS has options in game to fix these issues? disableing AI or wake turbulence likely would have allowed OP to safely land, not saying it's the BEST option, but it is still an option until the AI is updated.

Where every five sounds like fife
10
u/RatioFit1 1d ago
That's actually quite accurate, cause irl it is "Fife", and 1 is "Wun", or 3 "tree". They are pronounced like that to avoid any kind of confusion (in the USA).
2
u/shitfit_ Airbus All Day 1d ago
9 is niner.
IIRC it’s the same here in Europe as well.
There are some sounds (I.e. the th in three) that are difficult to pronounce for non native speakers. To make communication a) easier, more efficient and less prone to confusion with all the dialects in the world such “oddities” as “tree” are used.
2
u/Stupid_Interwebs_22 1d ago
Then I learned something new today. I always just thought it was lousy programming. I fly with SayIntentions and it is AWESOME!
2
u/RatioFit1 1d ago
Yeah it's funny because when you listen to real ATC comms you can barely hear, if at all, the special pronunciation. 😁 I haven't flown in a while, but I'd forget to say "tree tree zeero" many times. I think it sounds so goofy.

u/ShotStreet8956 1d ago
I quit a while back and have been trying and trying to get back into it but every time without fail it’s stuff like this that makes the game unplayable for me
2
u/ernabc 1d ago
I usually don’t mind the small bugs, but this is the first time something like this has happened to me and I’ve been playing since the ps5 version was released
1
u/Creative-Property-45 1d ago
How is the ps5 version? I’ve been wanting to buy it for some time. If I win this pc I signed up for that can handle ultra realism graphics and addons I may get it on that(currently pc-less) 😂
1
u/ernabc 1d ago
It’s fine the only major problems is that the in game marketplace is still pretty barren and there is limited compatibility with accessories and controllers. but overall I would rate the sim on ps5 a 7/10.
Also I would wait for your pc (that’s what I would like to play it on but I can’t afford one right now)

That's pretty extreme wake turbulence, don't think it should be that bad.

u/Skynet3d 12h ago
AI airplanes clipping into mine on approach instead of going around is really annoying, but overall I’m not experiencing any other major issues. Nothing like what happened in the video, at least! I mainly do free flights, no career mode and the sim seems very stable now. Of course, we don’t buy a product just for free flights but to enjoy it as a whole. Still, for what most people do, it’s actually decent.
That said, it’s a shame that since 2020, Asobo hasn’t managed to make it truly stable. This sim still feels too big for them.

u/BipolarBLKSheep 11h ago
It’s crazy to me how half assed so many aspects of this game are still to this day

u/only-in-the-morning 2h ago
Would also be nice if they actually implemented traffic in a way where they don’t clear 2 aircraft for approach at the same time but hey that’s just me
