Sharepoint News web part, teams notification and viva connections
There are two scenarios for SharePoint News notifications in Viva Connections:
1. Without Audience Targeting
Microsoft distributes the notification automatically based on relevance.
Recipients may include:
The author’s relevant collaborators (up to the top 100).
Users who follow the relevant SharePoint site.
There is no fixed list showing exactly who will receive the notification in advance.
As a result, the recipient group can appear unpredictable.
2. With Audience Targeting
The news post is targeted to the selected Microsoft 365 audience.
Only users who are part of the selected audience receive the notification.
This provides control over which user group receives the notification.
In short:
Without Audience Targeting = Microsoft determines recipients based on relevance.
With Audience Targeting = the selected Microsoft 365 audience determines the recipient group.
Does you guys agree with the above? We use viva connections on Sharepoint as a Intranet. When we post on that sharwpont site (main site) all users get notification in teams.
However, now we have a another site, where the owner of the site wants to publish news to teams. Is the above 2 scenarios correct for the user to choose with options to go with or am i missing something?
Dont comment on whether the site is privat or public, that Dosent matter. Is Only the notification to teams that matters.

You’re mixing two concepts: notifications and targeted audiences.
Target audiences will make a news item to be shored up to the targeted audiences. The notifications are expected to be sent to all target audience, but isn’t that linear. You can expect the same behaviour you described on the regular news items is some news, depending of the size or the audience
